I wish that desert wasn't categorized into Mille Fueille, Mont blanc, roll cake, creme breule and chocolate cake. This new offering from Cold Stone is just them folding under pressure to appease the Japanese market rather than innovate new flavors and introduce their customers to exciting new tastes. In the end, they all just give up and pick on of those categories and remix it somehow, making sure it's clear enough that it's still "rollcake" and it's safe.

Is that price a joke? What did they base that number on? Was there some kind of supply-and-demand figure they researched on blimps?

Too bad we can't broadcast this image to those thirsty African kids who can't get any water. Japan is just this wonderful country of waste and overuse, where you can leave the tap water running all day, pouring out into the streets. Where you can open all of your windows and doors and turn the AC to maximum blast in your shops. Just more waste...

I LOVE the oil crisis! It gave everyone a great excuse to arbitrarily raise the price of EVERYTHING. Those cows guzzle so much crude oil that cheese prices are just forced to go up.
I also like how cheese and raw milk are considered raw materials, like iron and ore found deep within the earth. Those poor cheese excavators...

When considering the world food crisis, I wonder if they thought about those $100 melons behind Laura.

Yeah, I'm sure it's unspoiled alright. I bet 1 night at a hotel costs $200 there too. I can't wait until someone finds an unspoiled part of Japan that doesn't gouge your wallet. Not to mention getting there by train or bus will probably be the same cost as flying to Thailand.

This sounds like it's going to head in the wrong direction like the time of the gas attacks. So the gov is considering controlling knives this time? Just like last time when they removed every trash barrel in the city. As if everyone will suddenly start copying what one guy did. Just wait a few months, wanna buy a new kitchen knife? You'll have to go through a strip search and interrogation first. The gov is handling this so wrong...

It's no doubt going to be far more expensive than it's US counterpart. Apple's Japan pricing has always been somewhere between 10-25% more expensive than US pricing. What does anyone care anyway though? It's Softbank so you'll be paying it off every month anyway. The end price will be almost double it's initial value. Have fun.

We have tons of people like this in America. These "speed eaters" who compete. What was the national news the other day? Worldwide food crisis? I'm so confused. Why can't we teleport these people to starving nations and make them stop!

I think dropping the 24 hour thing is the smartest move. That would eliminate the sleepers and give the staff a rest. Nobody wants to be working at 3AM.
As well, the food is getting fancier, in a strange way. These places were better when they were known for simpler dishes. Nobody cares to go to Jonathan's for the carpaccio and fine black olives. They're there for a big piece of fried pork and a coke. There's no point for them to follow any trend, the best trend is to simplify and perfect what they're already good at.

All due to biofuel, right? Lets burn all of our crops to fuel our SUVs, then complain that it's too expensive to produce food since all their crops are used up on biofuel. Nice job! As if butter wasn't already rediculously expensive in this country.

great observation there, "frappuccino + unknown jelly". That about sums up a lot of the experiments popping out of the Japanese foreign food kaleidoscope. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of it being jelly? Jelly is an alternative way to enjoy a beverage in a solid form. Bleh...

Very true, the food quality is the highest I've ever seen. However, that doesn't make it taste any better when they throw the most absurd ingredients together to make these juvenile imaginary dishes. This still looks like something a 5 year old would make. High quality ingredients or not.

This looks typical. If Chinese food uses just a little more oil than other cooking methods, the Japanese will bath their Chinese food in oil. If foie gras is fine dining in French cooking, the Japanese will slap it in everything and make it fast food(come on, who didn't see it at Denny's all last year??). How about carbonara pasta? Hope you like raw eggs(Mmmm, La Boheme style..., BLEH!) So big burgers are popular now? OK, lets just dump a whole bunch of burger related materials on top of eachother and make this monstrosity. Foreign food gets the worst treatment in this country. This is embarrassing, even us burger loving Americans wouldn't do something this stupid.

I can't believe you all scolding this woman! Children are constantly being neglected, left alone with guns, knives, in SUVs parked miles away from the grocery store entrance to boil, all kinds of crazy stuff. It's amazing that this even makes national news here. This is nothing new or remarkable.
