i pay the basic rate but not for BS cause i watch the news but i don't see why they just don't include the fee in the price of the TV to begin with. I can see where they didn't originally way back when cause then it would have made the price too high for average families but no excuse now.

this one presents an interesting dilemma. as a free lance photographer he goes (in part) because its his livelyhood so the government is preventing him from earning a living. on the other hand ti would be a PITA if he's captured and held hostage. personally, i think making him sign his right to government help away makes sense. don't see how that make them a laughing stock.

@zurcronium, so if a place smoking is allowed, i'm not allowed cause you are there? and you call me a selfish loser? lol! while i acknowledge your arguments, smoking is not quite the same as getting punched in face and name calling doesn't make your arguments any better. like i said the problem is a lack of tolerance and common courtesy and you just proved it.

the problem is a lack of tolerance and common courtesy on both sides. if its a place that allows smoking or outside, if someone ask nicely i am happy to try accommodate them within reason. if they are nasty, i will be nasty. if its a place that doesn't allow smoking, i will not smoke. i've always thought that they most logical way would be to let the person that pays the bill decide. make restaurants/bars/shops/work places choose to be either smoking or non smoking and prominently post notice to that effect. then its up to you whether you patronize/work/visit there or not.

are e-cigs harmful, probably. as are alcohol, cigs, marijuana, sugar, fat, etc. are they more harmful than regular cigs, probably not. notice they only play up the one brand as being consistently higher and another as inconsistent. so what about the other 11? where were they made and by whom? and where is data on regular cigs? obviously there is an agenda and a goal, the government wants to regulate for the "public good" and take there cut of the profits they lose from cig sales.

as for glycol and glycerin, i'm guessing the purity is the key. the thing is i understand that they use the stuff for movie smoke so if they ban it, they're going to have to ban that too.

After many years of deficit spending, Japan needs tax increases to get its battered government finances into better shape and cut its total public debt, which is more than twice the size of the economy and the largest among developed nations. A delay in the tax hike will slow that process

instead of taxing, how about shrinking government? after the sales tax hike, government workers got a raise. don't see how that shrinks the debt. the problem is that government has no incentive to shrink itself. they derive their power and influence from passing out money so of course they want more and that is why the MOF is the most powerful ministry and keeps pushing for tax increases.

besides the smartphones there has always been those who just put their head down and expect people to move out of their way. i will give ground if the other person paying attention and also gives ground. otherwise, why should i have to move out of their way?

yes, there is no legal requirement that it even be directly linked to the price of fuel used on your flight!

what they should do is come up with a law that for privately owned establishments, the owner must choose to be either all smoking or all non-smoking, put up a sign indicating which and then its up to everyone whether you want to work at or patronize that establishment.

Posted in: Japan is still way behind in terms of anti-smoking policies, especially measures against secondhand smoke. You can still smoke in a lot of public places in Japan such as office buildings, coffee shops, restaurants and bars.

even keynes acknowledged "I find myself more and more relying for a solution of our problems on the invisible hand which I tried to eject from economic thinking twenty years ago."

government debt chokes out private investment which is needed for growth and at some point, when the government are taxing them to death in order pay their salaries, people will wake up and realize the governments are never going to be able to repay the debt.

she wasn't forced to do anything. she chose to marry, full well knowing the pressure that would be put on her and she allows them to control her life. i have no pity for her at all. even this dinner, just so happens to be country that her father was posted to. her last overseas trip was also there. some diplomat she turned out to be.

whether he was on a one year contract or not is irrelevant, he was the captain, he had absolute power over life and death on the ship. he was responsible for and had a duty to preserve the life and welfare of his passenger and crew. he ignored his duty to save his own skin. while not pre-meditated, i don't think the death penalty is unjustified.
