on the other side of the coin is that there are people who rent places, live there for months without paying rent trashing the place in the process, then just abandon the place leaving all their junk behind. during that time its very difficult and expensive for the landlord to legally evict them and when they do leave he can't legally throw away their junk or they can make a claim against him when they ask for it back. so how is that fair to the landlord?

i don't think the old order is imposed so much by force and punishment as by group dynamics of japanese society in general. but its not only in japan that there has been a breakdown of order imposed by society, i.e. common courtesy. i think that this has happened in the u.s. and other countries too. its just that the vacuum is much larger in japan where such group dynamics played a much bigger part in controlling behavior than law as in western countries. the problem is that japan has been slow in recognizing the breakdown and filling the void.

i don't think i'm racist but it has been my observation that sometimes black people have a chip on their shoulder and will attribute any treatment that they don't agree with as being unfair because they are black. i can understand why they may feel this way but doesn't help the situation.

The question is when will the next elections be? Indeed why is it we see no rallies in support of Ahmadinejad? Ahmadinejad/Khamenei could easily end the bloodshed by ording new elections and if they indeed won by a landslide there should be nothing to fear. Instead their deception of the Iranian people is unraveling, their true nature shown. While the loss of life at the hands of their own government is appalling, I hope the Iranian people are able to persevere. The world is watch and rooting for you.

If Ahmadinejad's win was legitimate landslide, then there should be nothing to fear from a re-vote and they could even increase security to make sure that there weren't any discrepancies and there could be no argument from the opposition. So why doesn't Khamenei just order the re-vote to make things very clear? Either he's got something to prove (that he's in control or hide....

better safe than sorry. imo, the fact that a number of people have died from this flu and its new variety that nobody has antibodies for justify the hype. what i'm worried about now is mutuations and next flu season in the northern hemisphere.

with the proliferation of keitai cameras, i'm surprised that nobody got him on video! but police did go overboard with searching his home when all he was was drunk. the arrest could have gone either way. i believe that if it was just an ordinary person, they would have just thrown them in the drunk tank and let them sleep it off. being famous, he got the special treatment.
