as shown by akihabara, if there's a will there's a way. access to guns may make it a bit easier but they are not going to stop a nutjob in the end.

the problem with the japanese police is same as with doctors here, they have for all practical purposes no liability for negligence.

i understand that there are homeless shelters in and around tokyo but the homeless don't want to live there cause they are inconvenient, out of the way and have rules about what you can can't do, etc. so they go back to using prime public land for their personal living space without paying any rents or taxes (unless you count taxes included in the price liquor and tobacco) and scaring away or inconveniencing other people's use of such space. there is also welfare that pays even more than social security. why don't they apply for that? i can only guess that they are either too selfish, lazy or not smart enough or some combination of the above to use the government and other services available. if they are not smart enough, then they should at be educated but if they just don't want to jump through all the hoops then why should i feel sorry?

the solution is simple! have them stop wearing underwear! i don't see the problem with this if they allow strip clubs...

i'm surprised how restrained south korea has been considering that the north is always the aggressor and considering the loss of south korean lives comparatively.

the stars are not only for the food but also decor and service so as you move up in stars the overhead costs rise too so that's why they get expensive. if you want just food, the lower rated places are fine.

sorry but you can't rely on someone else to solve your problems. i don't know what the answer is but teachers and parents can only do so much and getting them involved will not solve the problem and may perhaps make it worse if you are seen as a squealer. i understand that is germany, they have a program where each student is designated as being the target for bullying for the day so that each student knows what it feels like which seems to work. the only suggestion i can think of is that if you are being bullied, document it so that you can make a case against your persecutors which cannot be ignored when you take it to the proper authorities.

body scanners and pat downs would do nothing to detect a surgically implanted bomb. i don't think those bomb sniffers would either in that case. that being said, i don't see why the ban box cutters, sissors or even small folding knives like a swiss army knife. after 9/11 i don't think anybody would let someone hijack a plane with just a box cutter.

unless they can provide a doctor's note proving that their obesity is genetic or due to a valid medical condition like a hormone imbalance and not simply overeating and/or a failure to exercise, they should pay for 2 seats.

welfare money should not be free, make them earn it doing the dirtiest hardest most disgusting jobs possible. if they don't like, then they can go find another job.

i don't see why they even bother. after 9/11, there is no way the passengers are going to let anyone hijack a plane with just a knife.

yes, particularly in tokyo, people don't even bother to say "excuse me" anymore. so i don't.

whatever the cuisine, i think the general quality of the food in tokyo is actually quite good. mexican aside, you can find very authentic places if you look, the problem is that they will usually cost quite a bit more than in their native land...

One more note FDS. Smoking is not a private affair. There are social, health and economic consequences that effect all of us. Public places should be 100% smoke free. If people want to kill themselves, they can do it at home, if they own the place.

Further, all smokers should pay more for health insurance.

i don't disagree with you. if the government wants to ban smoking on roads and government buildings then it is entitled to. but a business is not a "public place" so it should be up to the business owner to decide which side his bread is buttered on make a decision either smoking or non-smoking. then you can choose if want to go in there or not.

i don't disagree that smokers should pay more health insurance but they are already paying more tax, most of the price of cigarettes is tax. should that money go towards the health insurance? if not what the heck is being used for? if its being used for things that non-smokers benefit from, then you should complain.

let the business decide, either all smoking or all non-smoking and then let the customers/employees choose to patronize/work there. the business owner is the one who pays the bill and derives his income from his customers so he should decide. if you don't want to go in a smoking establishment, don't go. in the end it will naturally fall out that the majority of places will be non-smoking as is majority of the population but there will always be some places that will cater to smokers. but of course this is too practical/logical for the anti-smoking nazis who will insist on imposing their will even though they don't have to pay the bills.
