Nobody is saying whether Japanese people commit crimes more or less, that's really not the point.

my husband is so stubborn and he does not like to say sorry.. so when we argue, it is almost always me who first says sorry -- it actually makes it easier for him to say sorry.. i say im sorry and he says he's sorry, TOO... see it works?? :)

what's wrong with Japanese christmas being not religious or people not understanding the true meaning of Christmas?? I think it's totally fine as some of you stated Japan is not a Christian country anyways... People getting KFC chicken to bring home and eat with friends and family, to me, that seems like a happy time and people enjoy Christmas... so, nothing wrong and I'd say just enjoy it!!
And yes, it is commercial, but it's not just Japan. Many/Most American children get LOTS OF presents from parents, relatives and grandparents.. Tell me if that's not commercial. Japanese children get a few presents and a gift from Santa.
My point is... It's a fun time and I don't know why people here (JT) complain about J-Christmas.. Non-Christians can enjoy Christmas, too, right?? And it doesn't have to be spiritual or religious.. People can enjoy Christmas like an American Valentine's Day!! Fun fun fun.. and I like it :)

His MOTHER is an active-duty military service woman.. I bet the mom AND THE SON will be shipped back to the states as soon as possible, and that'd be the end of story.. sad.

no it is NOT the Japanese way, at least in this case, the sorry money would not solve the problem nor make the problem go away.
if someone rear-ends someone else's car, nobody is injured but if it's clearly your fault, sorry money would be a good thing and would make the other party feel better. but when someone is injured and has brain damage, sorry money would not make them shut their mouths, and it shouldn't.
and this is serious enough that the issue will be and should be mentioned regardless of the sorry money paid or not.
I bet this boy and the family will be sent out of Japan quickly... it's a shame.

Just read Stars and Stripes and read the comments made by military affiliated people and other Americans.. It made me scared when I read comments like he didn't kill anyone, or American military wouldn't be in Japan if Japan didn't bomb Pearl Harbor etc etc.. This woman has lost some of the functions she used to have and she has hard time communicating because of the brain damage.. she now also has some learning disability... The family of this 19-year-boy paid 17000 dollars and the boy said he was sorry for what happened ... I mean, he's sorry for WHAT HAPPENED and NOT WHAT HE HAS DONE???? And another comment said that the person knows this boy (yokota resident) and the boy has been out partying and etc the whole time.... This DID NOT CHANGE HIS LIFE much while this CHANGED HER LIFE BIG TIME..
I know that kids are kids and do stupid stuff, but to me, this ruling is insane..
It just sounds like the family paid gomen-nasai money and they wanted to be DONE WITH IT... but the woman has to suffer from the damage for the rest of her life, and the 17000 dollars will NOT cover the whole medical bill for the rest of her life and the difference that she makes now and before..
This, sadly, made an example to many U.S. military dependants that they can get away with not being punished when they do stupid things in Japan.. :(

and rest of the kids who got away with no punishment are the same -- they will go back to the states with their parents in a few years and then live like nothing happened... :(

sigh....
this boy's probably jumping up and down with a big smile on his face.. he'll behave for a few years while still living with his parents, then go back to the states and live like nothing ever happened in japan.

i wonder if the wife was getting some professional help... she had been saying she wanted to die, and that was why Mr. Matsudaira had the babisitter stay in the house the whole time he was away, he didn't want to let the wife be alone while he was away.. i see that there were signs and obviously the husband knew about it and was concerned.. Hard to imagine how much of a shock it was for him not being able to protect her.. And Hard to imagine how much of a shock it was for the babysitter knowing her responsibility wasn't just to watch the 4-year-old boy but she was asked to stay there because the wife was unstable...
this whole thing left a deep scar in the heart of everyone involved..

it's all the package deal, just because you like one or two parts of her body, doesn't mean she's your ideal person. just because she doesn't have the kind of appearance you like, if you have good chemistry, then she can be your ideal person.. this survey is silly..

My doctor told me that as long as the weight gain was within the healthy line, it's be fine and it'd be natural to gain 8 to 10kg,, I ended up gaining about 12kg and the doctor said I did a good job maintaining my weight ;)
The headline What's happening in Japan is a shocking phenomenon. You hear doctors yelling at expectant mothers and telling them to transfer to another hospital if they can't manage their weight is misleading -- Because it is certainly NOT A JAPANESE PHENOMENON TO KICK OUT an expecting mothers like that.. This headline makes it seem like most Japanese hospitals transfer expecting mothers if/when they gain weight more than they should, and it is simply not true.
There ARE clnicis (smaller ones usually) that say up front that if and when expecting mothers gain too much weight and it is risky for them to deliver a baby at their small clinic, they would transfer them to a hospital that can handle situations like that... and the clinic I had my second baby was one of them. I was VERY HAPPY with the clinic --doctors and nurses were very responsible and personal, I had a very good experience to have my baby at a Japanese clinic :)

The girl in the red kimono is holding a sign that says teachers, please do not teach us lies --- adults making kids holding a sign like this, it isn't good because then kids would think teachers teach lie. I do think that the text books in Japan need to be revised, but telling kids that teachers are not teaching the truth wouldn't do much positive. It is scary to use children in an activity like this... I am sure the kids didn't volunteer, their parents made the kids do this.

As some people have already stated, punishing this 10-year-old girl and the baby's 13-year-old father would do any good to anybody. The mother of the girl should know (if she doesn't) that her 10-year-old girl giving birth COULD HAVE killed her and the baby and her body isn't mature enough to have a baby yet. Getting married young isn't necessarily bad, but how young is young? In my book, even 16-year-olds are too young to get married and have kids even with the parents' approval. Educate children!! That's the only solution I guess.. Just because it has always been like that, it doesn't mean it is the right thing.

You have a point there, however, this case, the guy (Hirakawa) and the girl already knew each other.

They punched the girl's face and threatened her to make her believe if she didn't obey, she would get physically hurt again. Hirakawa, the guy stole additional 50,000yen after releasing the girl so he knew where the girl lived and he already had her phone number and etc. I don't think Hirakawa's actual intention was to make the girl work as a prostitute but to show her how angry he was to find out she had a boy friend and I think he was trying to tell her what a bitc%% she was (I'm not saying she is, but I think that’s what he was trying to say).

I dont think the girl's a waitress.. she is a 飲食店従業員 .. usually means a hostess. hirakawa was her customer and that was why he had her cell phone number.
hostess-customer relationship can often cause much troubles..
i hope the guy and the other two will be properly punished.
