Sorry a little mistake (my post at 12:17pm). The woman didn't say you shouldn't live before she killed the son, she yelled SHE shouldn't live to the police officer who came to the house after the husband dialed 110.

Either way, she is a selfish woman and I would not want to call her a mother because REAL MOTHERS DO NOT HURT OUR CHILDREN. We'd hurt ourself to protect our children.

continued from my previous post --- And if for some reason the situations were not good for the boy in the family, why did she not take him with her and move out? I mean, as a mother, protecting your own child should come in first.. so, whatever excuse she might tell the police, I am not going to forgive what she has done (not that she ever needs me to forgive her, but as a mother myself, I am very angry about the selfish action she has taken)

this family has 3 children, but only this 11-year-old boy who was killed was this woman's biological child. the other 2 kids are from the husband's previous marriage. according to the husband, he heard the woman yell "you should not live" 〔生きとったらあかん)beofore he heard the boy scream. SELFISH WOMAN.. she cut her wrist while the husband was trying to take care of the boy.. I strongly believe she cut her wrist knowing she was not going to die (someone ---> husband would rescue her).

why had she withdrawn such a large amount of money in the first place? as well, wasn't there any surveillance footage of her getting punched in the face? the bank should at least have some video of this guy watching her withdraw the money, right? the whole stinks. i say she's lying. my opinon.

She got 6 million yen to buy postal insurance. The street she was walking on at the time was a small residential street (I saw the video on news) and was not a busy Tokyo street like many people here are assuming. Just wanted to clarify that.

Mistwizard - Swimming education has changed A LOT in the last decade or so. I have my child in a japanese elementary school and they are basically just having fun in the pool, no one is actually teaching them how to swim.

Also, swimming class is only twice a week and over 100 kids (3 classes) take the "class" all together. It's not like each class gets 45 minutes or anything like that.

I recall it used to be more of a "swimming ed" but now it's different.

    oqtob-

Why did a 75 year old woman withdraw JPY 6,000,000 from the bank?

According to Sankei and Yomiuri, this woman was going to buy postal life insurance.

    raj20679-

is it possible to take our 6 million Yen from the ATM in one go ? i thot there are restrictions in the max amt you can withdraw in a day ....

She didn't take out 6 million yen from the ATM. She went to the teller window to get the money.

She said the guy said "kore kore" (well, the translation would be this this, but I think JT should have mentioned that the guy spoke in Japanese, it's just my opinion.

Police is now checking the security camera image of the guy to identify.

i went out with a group of people the other day (my kids were with me, too). they didn't want to take many cars so they asked me if i wanted to leave my car at home then get in their car with other people. they alrady had packed the car with people and i said NO because my little one is still 2 years old and needs to be in her carseat. they said that I could just put her on my lap and hold her. I said Er.... No, thank you, but I'll take my car. They looked at me like "why"... (rolling my eyes)

instead of catching people on bicycle, police should start catching cars with kids not in their carseats!!

why didn't an employee inquiry the whereabouts of Shota, the 9-month-old baby at the time?

they say that the grandpa had dropped off just one kid (the 2-year-old girl) before so they thought he just brought one child that day -- though they still really SHOULD HAVE asked about Shota.. The grandpa forgot about the baby, the daycare people didn't ask about the baby... 2 bad things resulted with the worst ending. RIP shota..

And just for the record...yes he should be held accountable. I feel for him and for the whole family but anyone who made such a mistake would be held accountable no matter how badly they feel about it.

agree, and i think he probably feels better to get punished for the terrible mistake. he probably feels guilty as hell and if i were him, i would not just forgive myself by people around saying "it's okay". i feel very sad for him and for the family.

Shufu- Price differs depending on the parents' annual income. People complain when it's expensive, but I guess some people complain or think it's bad when it's cheap, too? True that the daycare people should have asked the grandpa what happened to the baby boy even if there were times when he only dropped off one kid. Daycare people should ask questions like "he's not here today because he's sick?"

Also, I'd like to note that this grandpa was only transporting the kids to/from daycare, he wasn't babysitting for hours while the kids parents or grandma being there with him. I know many people in their 70s who are still very much capable of taking care of small kids, not running around with them, but just to transport children, they can be a good help, so blaming the parents or this grandpa on taking care of the kids/transporting them is not something I would do.

If the law doesn't punish this grandpa for being forgetful, I am sure he feels more guilty as anyone here on this forum can imagine.

Really is a case by case scenario some 80yrs olds are very sharp and alert mentally others aren't.

Zenny- I agree.. It is not a bad thing that grandparents helping out. I don't have my parents or my husband's parents living nearby, so I often wish I had help from grandparents.

It isn't good when parents leave kids with grandparents all the time, but I don't see anything wrong about grandpa taking his grandkids to daycare. I had to say, though.. that the age of grandparents matters here, and I don't know how old is too old to drive. In France where one of my parents is from, old people drive all the time, sometimes people in their 80s still drive. I've lived in the U.S. as well and there, I saw old people driving all the time and taking their families/small kids out was not something people would point out unless that person has mental/physical issue.

I feel so bad for this grandpa. It was probably a pure joy for him to help out his daughter/son (the parents) and being a part of his grandkids' every-day life. It is such a tragedy.

Americans may be paranoid, but some of these Japanese are absolutely careless

yeah, but better to be "paranoid" than losing your kids by being careless in my opinion.

my kids school sends kids to library all the time when parents/teachers have meetings, and the difference is that there's always a librarian there when kids are there (thank goodness).

parents of this girl should have taught her NEVER NEVER NEVER to climb up to open windows, and the school is also to be blamed on not having an adult person in the room while having children wait for their parents.

not that this girl would ever come back, but just so that other schools nationwide will be more aware and more careful, because i am sure there are many many schools that send kids to some room to have their parents wait during PTA meetings.

TSRnow- Totally agree. If they were to make the kids wait, they should have someone (adult) in the same room.. especially that these are 1st graders..
