as a country, China might be No.2, but all the money is in Beijing and Shanghai, the rest of the country is so very poor. China needs to work real hard within its own country so that people outside of the big cities get money and education. Even though China is No.2 (GDP), it will probably take many more years before they actually catch up with the U.S. in terms of morals and education, etc etc. It will be pretty interesting to see how China will develop.

miamum-
you're right.. this happened at a hoikuen. and I actually have an aswer for you why these kids were taking a nap all together. the government authorized daycares (ninka hoikuen) have rooms for each age group while non-authorized daycares (muninka hoikuen) don't have to meet the government's basic standard and often put all age groups in one or two rooms and they don't have specific regulation for how many caregivers for how many kids and etc.
in authorized daycares (ninka hoikuen), babies sleep in one room and there are certain number of caregivers (with degree in childcare or a nurse)with them the whole time the babies are aleep.
non-authorized daycares (muninka hoikuen), as long as there is one person with the degree in childcare or nurse, other caregivers are not required to have a degree nor certificate in childcare. And most of the times, these daycares have fewer number of caregivers looking after children.
I am not saying all non-authorized daycares are bad.. there are good ones and they are certainly needed as there are not enough authorized daycares and there are lots of people waiting to get their kids in the authorized daycares (they put their kids in non-authorized daycares temporarily while on waiting list)..
after all, I have to say, that this was a sad sad incident.. RIP baby..

This is a simple translation mistake. This incident happened at a DAYCARE, not a kidnergarten.
It is sad and I'm sorry for the baby's parents and the caregivers...

I don't blame you.. I'd be traumatized if I were you.. Not all J-women are like your ex (I'm telling you because I am one and I'm not like that), but then again, if I were you, I'd probably not want to be with a J-woman. I love the Shonan area, too.. love the beach (wish it was cleaner, though) and water :)

doesn't matter how wild the child was.. it was the mother's responsibility to control her child instead of tying him up in the bathroom.
it can be exhausting to be with a wild (or I should say normal) kid, but one should never do what this mother did to the boy.

These people probably ask the same exact question to themselves as well! Why do we have kids?? Surprise surprise when you don't plan to be a parent and ended up becoming a parent.

That was my reaction as well.. a single mom with a boy friend AGAIN.. The mother probably relied on the boy friend too much and neglected her child. A mother stopped being a mother and became a woman in this case.. They should learn that we can be a mother AND a woman at the same time..

i am not even sure if they really changed him, either.. poor boy,, he probaby hasn't got toilet training, either.
if the mom is so lazy to be bothered by a toddler walking around the house, i doubt she was toilet training him.

Absolutely right. Toddlers learn so much by making a mess and everything around them is basically a toy. Tissue, papers, food, EVERYTHING. When I give my toddler some food, she makes a mess.. but do I give her no food?? Well, I talk to her and teach her to eat clean, but she still makes a mess, so I show her how to clean up and we clean up together.
I also agree with you miamum that it is so scary that these people who do this to kids do not have the sense of guilt, they think it is perfectly acceptable. Arresting them and putting them in a cell wouldn't change them at all because they don't think they did anything wrong. What they need is (on top of arresting them) a proper counseling and classes to take, and they probably should be tied to a poll and be put in the bathroom for 20 hours to EXPERIENCE it.

She was not teaching him discipline, I mean, what kind of discipline was that? 3-year-olds CAN understand words and the mother should have talked to him not to touch things he wasn't supposed to. Sure it IS trouble for the mother if a small child walks around the house and touches everything when she wants to do something else, BUT as a mother, she should have managed to do things she wanted to do during the day and whatever else, she should wait until the boy goes to sleep, or leave the boy at daycare, etc.. Kudos to the brother who called the police and I am so glad he visited the house. I am sorry to say, but a mother and a boy friend -- AGAIN? Was my reaction when I read the article..

I understand what you are saying and how people complain when they drink, and I DO actually agree with you that many/most of the things they complain about are things they can actually overcome if they really try.. But I think when people go out to drink, they WANT to rant and complain.. Maybe many of those complainers do not or cannot complain during the day and maybe many of them actually are trying to change things in a better way :) My husband sometimes complains about work or other things(work itself, his co-workers, system, etc), but he does not complain outside of the house and he is actually doing his best to get the best result.. so I let him whine and complain when he's relaxed at home. I think your customers are relaxed and feel that they are allowed to complain and whine when drinking.. so I wouldn't be harsh on them :)

AFTER being questioned. He initially said the girl fell off the stairs.
The mother had 3 other children and she had to go to one of the kids' school event that day and left the 2-year-old with the boy friend.
Their neighbors heard the mother crying saying Please stop while the kids screaming in the middle of the night more than several occations which suggests the boyfriend was abusive and I don't know how the mother felt okay to leave the girl with him alone.
I know it is work to take all kids to a school event and the girl was 2 years old, not easy to take a 2-year-old with other kids all by yourself, but still, the mother should have taken this girl along with other kids, or she should have left the girl at a daycare..
