this 1800 yen figure for movies keeps coming up and up and up on 'Japan today' - I go all the time and NEVER pay 1800 yen. It's 1000 or 1200 yen if you are clued on.

taking a pic of a guy walking into a porn shop.

actually, thats an interesting point, there are numerous websites out there where boffins can send in street view links of funny or interesting picture: people getting pulled over by cops, people fighting, etc. I can especially see the former being quite embarrassing for the driver, their indiscretion is forever available online for others to laugh at.

why dont these civil libertarians get all heated about other websites? how about this one? a live video feed of Dotonburi bridge in Osaka? http://tombori.com/livecam/

Nothing like people jumping on the bandwagon of one narrow specific cause.

If you say so. That's different than the opinion of JD Power and Associates and Consumer Reports, but hey, who are they to counter some guy on a message board? ;)

Who are they? JD Power? Consumer? they are two American firms there. Two American firms surveying American goods...hmmm fishy. Thats like taking seriously something that Fox news reports. If an independent survey from a reputable international agency came back with stirling marks I would be most impressed. Recently on Top Gear Clarkson test drove a Ford pick up truck and proceded to show all its glaring faults and shoddy workmanship, granted he hates Americans cars, but even Mother Teresa would have bashed the offending vehicle in the road test.

Not all Japanese cars are great either - need I say Mitsubishi.

    Madverts is on the money.

Google is too big and the fact that they did not ask it the main problem.

How and who would they ask? there are options to blur out things if you request it, so if its really a big issue, it can be resolved.

The images are definitely useful but why should a company just go to another country and film everything without permission.

Go to another country???? what?? This is Google Japan - google.co.jp, nobody is going anywhere, Google is an International entitiy, they were already here. Google Japan is a Japanese based company providing services to Japanese people in Japan.

Creepy, I saw it on BBC last night, he sounded like Gollum and his precious, the way it said "It's mine". He needs a bullet, though in his mid 80's father time will hopefully do the job soon.

I have had this argument with some Japanese people they are so obsessed about the private space, the concept of "inside and outside". Street view is brilliant, extremely useful ESPECIALLY in Japan where streets have no names!! Its a life saver and I wish it had been around ages ago. They feel that street view is violating their inside sanctum. Japan despite being the worlds leading electronic maker is a nation full of Luddites! seriously, it is one of the greatest paradoxes in the World.

The Black Ships come 150 years ago.....yet still not getting with the program.

"Microsoft issuing emergency fix for browser flaw"

IE is a horribly flawed browser full stop, I hate people asking me for advice about it. You strongly suggest they change browsers, but they are sheep and persist using the hideous IE.

Doomed to failure... they have three months to have massive and complete turn around and during a recession? It takes years to come up with the kind of eco-cars that Toyota and Honda churn out, what does Chevy currently have? the Volt: a token gesture to shut up the hippies (quote stolen from "Ironman") GM and Chrysler are a disgrace (Ford close behind), bloated idiotic companies churning out garbage cars for years, the have long missed the boat, in fact as far as boats they are now on the Titanic with a $17Bil deckcahir shuffle going on Was watcihng BBC last night, one commenator said it was like trying to get a man with pneumonia to run the 100m at the Olympics.

theres an old saying that the two safest jobs are 'bakers and undertakers' - people always want bread and people are always dying. But I guess bakers aren't safe in Japan, they don't even have real bread here....

One of my jobs could be at risk due the shriveling automotive industry, the company I am subcontracted to is a parts makers and their orders are drying up fast, they just let 100+ temps go in the past month. Still thats the only a minor part time job.

I find it very ironic that last year when all the Nova teachers were let go, some of the smarmy Tokyoites in the finance/banking were smugly reminding the Nova bottom feeders how well off they were in the corporate world...

nice shot but to the surfers: why bother?, my kids make bigger waves in the bath tub each night. Its one thing to get into the icey waters for great waves but to sit there in calm waters? hmmm.

Jaden sounds like a girls name

really? Jaden is very a much a boys name to me, though for some bizarre reason the USA takes boys names and makes them girls names. Hayden, Shannon etc.

p.s. nice peach fuzz Keanu, stick with the goatee 'dude'.

The scene is difficult to watch, even for viewers inured to the subject of dying by a steady diet of violent Hollywood and television fare.

why difficult?, knowing this chaps story, his pain and destroyed ravaged body, it wouldnt be difficult, it would be sharing in his relief of seeing the cruelty finally end....free at last, free at last. Seeing a young child finally succumb to cancer - now that would difficult. I wish all the Charlie Churches of this world would keep their beliefs to themselves sometimes.

whats next? will this redneck clown make a swipe at the Germans? - dont by a BMW its engineered by former Nazis (rolleyes), though that isn't likely to happen in South Carolina - not too many people there would drive anything but a Ford F150 (which is made in Mexico) to the NASCAR ciruit to watch American dinosaurs roaring around the oval.

gonemad said it well. They may need them to contact their parents etc after class, but in class they should be off and or in their lockers or a designated storage space

Oh, the killed child was out celebrating a friend's birthday.

I read one Reuters report saying he and 5 pals threw rocks at a police car and he was shot as he was about to hurl a molotov coktail at the cops. Dont know who to believe, but if the latter turns out to be true, then its a pretty odd way to celebrate a birthday.

Lots of people listing "soundtracks", the question says "score"

Sarge, rjd beat us both to Jaws. How any person with a pulse and who has seen the movie Jaws doesn't have this in their top five is unfathomable, the poll is not your "favourite" it says memorable - very different kettles of fish. Even if you hated Jaws, you can't deny it is probably the most unforgettable defining piece of music in any movie ever. LOTR - very memorable as well. Very good movies too boot.

The UN should declare the Southern Ocean a whale sanctuary and then boot the Japanese out of the UN when they go "a researchin'". That should shake their blinkers off more than Perry's Black Ship did.
