All in all, this thread has shown there are a lot of patrons of this site who aren't sports people and just don't get it.

Badsey. He has quit the sport completely. He has done a Pontius Pilate of wrestling. I dont think he really cares anymore.

Anyone here remember Matt Biondi and Antony Nesty of Suriname? this is a real case of Dejavu.

In the 1988 Olympics in the same race - the 100 butterfly. The US hero Biondi, glided the last 50cms and was pipped by 0.01 secs by a better timed stroke at the finish by the massive underdog Nesty. B.T.W - A full two seconds slower than yesterdays race

    Pretty freaky.

It seems this guy go absolutely royally screwed by the judges and had reason to be furious, that doesn't condone what he did, but nevertheless a inquiry to the judging farce should be done of the wrestling organization FILA. Apparently one of the Judges was from Italy and his good friend the V.P of FILA is also the head Italian Wrestling. The bad judging occurred in the semi final bout with Italian wrestler...

p.s only a 5 line write up? why so brief? also incorrect: he dropped it -not threw it.

Do we the reader have to do the work for this website????

    here a more substantive report: . .

THe IOC said his action went against the spirit of fair play, insulted his fellow competitors and constituted a demonstration, which is banned inside Olympic venues. During the wrestling medal ceremony, Abrahamian took the bronze from around his neck after beating Melonin Noumonvi of France, stepped from the podium, dropped it in the middle of the wrestling mat and then walked off. Abrahamian, a silver medalist in Athens, had to be restrained by team mates when a argument erupted with judges over the decision in the semi-final bout with Andrea Minguzzi of Italy, who went on the take gold.

Abrahamian shouted at the referee and judges then went over to their seats to speak to them up close. He angrily threw off the restraining arm of a team official then turned and left. Some of the judges laughed at him. Swedish fans jeered loudly as the judges filed out of the arena. Swedish coach Leo Myllari said at the time: "It's all politics."

“The awards ceremony is a highly symbolic ritual,” the I.O.C. said in a statement. “Any disruption by any athlete, in particular a medalist, is in itself an insult to the other athletes and to the Olympic movement.”

Abrahamian had made “serious unsubstantiated allegations” against Greco-Roman wrestling’s international governing body, and had not offered an apology for his actions during the ceremony, the I.O.C. said.

The IOC ordered the Swedish Olympic Committee to enforce the decision which meant Abrahamian is banned from all Olympic venues and the athletes' village. It also ordered the wrestling federation to take any further action as it saw fit.

He has announced his retirement - what a way to go out.

Cut him some slack, he's the best breaststroker in the world, two gold medals two olympic records, one world record + the other one on another day. Why is he arrogant for telling the truth? he was as cool as a cucumber - you could see it yesterday. Very content with years of hard work paying dividends. Enough of the tall poppy syndrome.

ping pong? wheres the report on the mens volleyball game - Japan v China? What a fantastic game, simply riveting. There was table tennis on another channel and the excitement was light years apart.

I thought it was great, he was ecstatic as his team mate came from nowhere to win and shove it down the French guys throat.

How about this question, what did you think of the really loud high pitched squeals from the Australian womans team in after victory in the 4x200m relay? I found that alot more annoying than the greatest swimmer in history showing his emotions.

Just watched the bout. Suzuki was asleep! touchy feely gi-tugging passive judo while the mongolian was attacking non-stop. He has reason to be very disappointed with that effort.

The "big brother Olympics" being too controlling it seems. I was watching weightlifting and one guy had T-shirt under his lifting suit with a couple of words visible, one was "earth" Officials came running over and a put some masking tape across the words, disrupting his preparations to make the lift. His concentration was broken and the delay caused to rush the lift before he was ready as he time limit was fast approaching.

China is making for a pretty sterile games, reporters blogs are criticizing the lack of atmosphere.

Suzuki huh? two time world champ, defending Olympic champ and thumped in the first round by ippon by a Mongolian...hmm, a Japanese getting owned by a Mongolian, that reminds me of......

That must be the biggest disappointment so far for the Judo team, it would be like Kitajima getting knocked out it the swimming heats.

Lots of records went in this race. The World, Olympic and Americas record, the European record (to Cseh) the ASIAN and Japan Record to Matsuda and the Oceania record to Burmester of NZ in 4th equal. Burmester too like Matsuda would have truly cherished a bronze medal in such a race. The other 4th equal guy was Chinese, so its a good chance that was a Chinese record too. It really was a blistering race and the fact that Phelps won by over half a second in quite outstanding. Cseh must be ruing his luck, to be around in he time of Phelps, if not for Phelps then he would have 2 golds. He now knows how Frankie Fredericks the 200m sprinter who came second to the great Michael Johnson felt. Pretty incredible race really.

the utilized the natural talents and assets of both little girls, the cute girl was the originally supposed to sing it but 'they' decided her voice wasn't good enough, so they used the voice of the other girl. Both girls got publicity out of it in the end and the singing girl will be known as the voice of the Olympics, the cute girl the face of the Olympics. Both get something out of it. Welcome to reality, where looks count, why are billions spent yearly on plastic surgery, hair loss products, beauty products etc etc.

FWIW. The singing girl was an average looking girl, by no means ugly. There are no ugly children, some are just cuter than others ;-)

the biggest tragedy perhaps is the Japan will only run with 2 as they didn't submit the name of a reserve, which must be frustrating for the others as the competition for the 3 original spots as incredibly fierce and several great runners missed out.

the repeats have already taken air-time over other live events for the past couple of hours!).

several times yesterday there was the same thing on 2 channels! It happened with Judo, Badminton, Soccer.

NHK-G NHK-BS1 and Fuji were all broadcasting at the same time. If Fuji is showing the badminton there is no need for NHK-BS to be showing it too! the same badminton match on 2 channels! BS has been great showing the most with most variety, but they are the channel that should be always showing the 'other' stuff.

p.s. if you want to see non traditional Japanese events watch BS1 in the early hours of the morning you can see archery, cycling etc.

Lots of mistakes in that game, very sloppy first half with both teams missing many shots, the US did look better as the game went on with plenty of razzamatazz. I guess the millions spent on educating the boorish Chinese fans was wasted as the crowd was lacking in Olympic spirit quite noticeably, booing the US players at the free throw line etc.

James has been very humble in interviews about the Olympics, hardly whiny.
