I like this quote "However, it has also been suggested by a fired Boeing engineer that in the event of a crash landing, survivable in a metal plane, the composite fuselage could shatter and burn with toxic fumes"
Yes, carbon fibre shatters very nicely, just look at an f1 car disintegrate in a shower of carbon fibre shards. And all that plastic does make you wonder....
I this lightweight design is partly there to counteract the increasingly obese passengers riding on board.

Cleo as much as you are a very knowledgeable dog lover and defender, I think your knowledge of hunting dogs is off the mark. Not all dogs are created equal. We know this as certain breeds are naturally good at being seeing eye dogs, gun dogs, avalanche rescue dogs, workdogs (sheep dogs), fighting dogs and certain breeds make good hunting dogs.
Yes, many characteristics can trained in (and out of) dogs but some dogs, just like people are just plain nasty. I love dogs but have deep suspicions of pitbulls; I don't trust them, no matter how well trained and lovable their owner may claim them to be.
I have met some well trained hunting dogs and some pretty nasty hunting dogs in my time, and if they (the ones with mean streaks) ever bit you it wouldnt have been "over-exuberant nip" it would have been a fair old chomp.
Farmer Yamada in this case should be prosecuted to the full extent of whatever laws, if any, exist. The dogs should be rounded up and put down, sad - but unfortunately they ended up with the wrong owner and their Pandora's box has been opened.

Only the end view like in the photo is remotely spectacular, once you are in the 'thing' the lighted gates are 10-20m apart and its looks very mediocre. inakarob is right on the money.

much much more.....a Domestic dispute. Tiger Woods did not suffer facial lacerations from a car accident. They were inflicted by his wife, Elin Nordegren -- according to a conversation Woods had Friday after the accident....apparently Tiger has being playing a round or two on golf course that out of bounds, so to speak and he got busted. Off a tree and fire hydrant? golf club into the window? The club hit the window before he speed away crashing. This story is not in the mainstream media but it's out there. Tigers dirty washing is about to be aired....

Its not just Japan that hates the stupid things, I am glad someone has persisted in complaining about them. Its the last livivng brain cell that makes the the muppets in the crowd blow those things. hideous, noisy, boorish and completely unnecessary

As soon as I saw this photo I knew the cynics, complainers and 'know it alls' would be taking cheap shots....sigh. He showed respect to his elder, who has been in the greeting and meeting VIP's game a heck of a lot longer. He bowed, get over it, nothing to see here - move along, move along.

The hawkers in the long run would be best to avoid the trail for their sanity, if they must go, just go one day, stare at Ichihashi and get their closure.

Sadly yes and no, he has been finally caught, so that aspect will give them closure, but Hawker senior has said he looking forward to sitting across from Itchy-bridge at the court trial....what if the itchy one torments them by refusing to acknowledge what he did or just plain torments them? I would have mixed feelings about that - wanting to see him, it could/will reopen the wounds of their lost daughter after all this time worse than ever.

could be worse, they could be playing pachinko.... bunch of cheapskates, buy it or bugger off and stop blocking the paying customers from getting past or trying to get a magazine they actually want to buy themselves. Put all these mags in plastic wrap like the porno mags and eradicate this behaviour for good.

I would guess it's a Aikido bokken. A bokken is a heavy solid piece of wood crafted to replicate a katana (samurai sword) to simulate sword attacks. They are quite heavy about 2 pounds (800g) which is more than a baseball bat and made of very hard wood. Because its shaped like a sword with a tapered edge and considering it hardwood and heavier than a baseball bat, it doesn't take much imagination to figure that you can do a lot of damage with one if you really wanted too. Kendo shinai are made a slats of bamboo that absorb shock, pro wrestlers often whack the heck out of eachother with Shinai. A Shinai will sting, a bokken will crack your skull.
