Who said this kind of thing was Japan exclusive? In my home country we have the same problem, the only difference is that American women leave their babies in dumpsters, not toilets. I feel sorry for the person who found this baby, all they wanted was to use the toilet.

I'm sure that IF he had some special forces training, the US and Japanese authorities would have taken that into account. If that were the case, I hope he would have received a far more severe punishment. I find it surprising that you feel qualified to comment on the military seeing that you have so little knowledge of the military, and your comments seem to be a little ignorant. Please take a few moments to learn about this case and the military before you comment, you're only embarrassing yourself so far.

AK619- Once again, Japan has EVERY right to punish this murderer as they see fit. He is a deserter and a monster and my only regret is that Japan is so reluctant to use the death penalty. A case like this certainly seems to call for the highest punishment under the law.

AK619- Once again, why would any decent person feel any unity with this cold-blooded murderer?

AK619- I understand what you're saying re: your punching incident, but this was murder. Not only that, this man was clearly guilty and he is a Nigerian citizen, which makes a big difference in this case. Japan has every right to punish him as they see fit with the Navy's permission. As far as the Navy missing this guy's mental issues? That's a joke, this guy just invented some excuse thinking he could get away with an insanity defense. Are you in the military or a U.S citizen? Your spelling is.....awkward. No offense meant, simple curiosity on my part.

AK619- He's not an American, he joined to become a citizen, but never completed the process. So why would he be sent to America? Why would a military member feel a sense of unity with a criminal and a deserter? Most of the service members I know have pride, dignity and abide by the laws.

This punishment is NOT harsh at all. Consider the consequences of his actions. Not only did he take the life of an innocent person, but he has contributed to the negative stereotype of the American military that so many here believe. Thinking of it that way, this creep got off far too lightly.

I have to agree with a lot of posters here, there's no way this article can be considered anything other than your classic tabloid trash, I certainly doubt it's the norm. in any marriage to pay for sex. I can't really imagine any man of any nationality being willing to pay for sex from his own wife, nor can I imagine any woman sticking around in a marriage where the only thing that gets her off is the thought of a payout after. I know I would never ask someone for money afterwards, but then again, I'm not a prostitute. Ive met a lot of Japanese men, women and couples who conform to the sexless marriage stereotype, but this pay to play stuff is news to me.

@jammer- Have fun in Roppongi, then. Enjoy your drinks while the rest of us stick to the safer areas here in Japan (aka everywhere else). I travel to many countries within Asia, perhaps you should consider reading all of the posts on this thread before commenting. How could I possibly censor your posts? LOL that's the mod's job. Umm....the Justice League is fictional, you know? I hope you enjoy your drinks...............

@jammer-If you were hanging out where drinks were being spiked, I'm sure you'd see it, too. BTW, if you're a "nobody in cyberspace" please don't comment. This warning was sent out to protect travelers and naive people who don't live in Japan, so if you have nothing productive to say, don't contribute. As far as embassy warnings in foreign countries go, I and many of my colleagues and friends have had to travel to these places I referred to, at those times, the embassies there have issued many warnings and offered advice that may have saved my life. I always listen very carefully when they mention anything, these people work to protect people like myself (Americans).

medievaltimes- Really? You're actually going to insult perfectly normal people because they're making an attempt to find love? So....because they're trying to meet someone at an event held at a temple they are somehow "immature when it comes to interpersonal skills". Really? Please explain this interesting theory further.

@jammer- To answer your post, I get my information from several sources, not simply JT, hence I am aware of several tourist complaints. As far as the breakdown of nationalities, you're correct, I have no empirical data, but it's a logical guess. If there were military personnel out there making false accusations against the Japanese, I can guarantee you there would be have hell to pay. I may not be military, but I am quite familiar with their procedures regarding incidents like this. If you don't trust the U.S embassy to do their homework and comfortably assume that they send out baseless warnings (twice) then I am certainly glad you're not American. If you are American, good luck out there on your own and I hope you never go to a truly dangerous country where the embassy's warnings are vital to your security. As much as you would like to deny it based on your 15 years of living here, it does happen. I never saw crack whores back in America, does that mean they don't exist? Same stupid logic.

Why, so we can get the lowdown of ancient sexual traditions and practices? Who cares? I live in the 21st century Japan, not Edo, and in this century, children are children, not brides to be. I also have access to modern birth control, don't have use weird potions and can have sex with anyone I want, not someone my liege has demanded I marry. grl2grlz- If you like ancient Edo so much, please get cracking on building a time machine so you can go there and have sex with a child. Leave the past in the past where it belongs.

grl2grlz- In that case, I don't expect you to understand American/European sexuality, please stop importing our women to work in your dirty clubs. Especially since you have so many lovely children to work there thanks to your Japanese sexuality. I really love when people pull the "mysterious Japanese card", of course it's only when disgusting things like this are brought up. Please don't insult all Japanese people by claiming this soft core pedophilia is part of the culture.

yokomoc- Huh? Oh, umm..no, not ever. I was the one who suggested a Roppongi ban. Maybe you're replying to Sebaschan's post? Anyway, I hear it's more of a guy place anyway. Nothing wrong with strip clubs, but they're not really my cup of tea. Besides, there are nicer/quieter places to enjoy a drink near where I live.

In America people usually go to church to meet someone, I don't think this is much different. I wish them good luck and ganbatte. Hope it works for them!

I believe the U.S embassy has received the largest number of reports, hence the warning. Most Americans, tourist and military alike tend to go to Roppongi more than any other nationality. Funny enough, I had actually never heard of Roppongi until I moved here, Shibuya and Shinjuku were the only real party spots I knew about. Based on what I've heard, though, I don't believe I'm missing out on a great deal.
