    It's not newspeak, just slang.
Don't they use slang in Okinawa? They do in Tokyo, it's the same thing in America. Language is a living thing and evolves at a rapid pace. I hope unfriend doesn't face the same terrible fate that the word bootylicious did when it was nominated to be in the dictionary. I haven't heard that word in years, after it was put in the dictionary, it just died a slow death.

Just went and looked at 2chan finally (my friends been pestering me to go check out the freakiness for a while) and they actually DO have posts on how cool he is and whatnot! Sooooo delusional and scary.
these women have NO idea. This guy is a killer, he preys on women he views as weak, he doesn't care if they're Japanese or foreign. He might have a preference for foreigners, because they appear easier to take advantage of, but if he found a Japanese girl just as vulnerable, I doubt he would hesitate. J-courts, send him to trial ASAP if you have the proof! He is dangerous and getting more so.

I feel a little sick, even though I'm not surprised. Let's hope this guy gets put away before one of these delusional women becomes his next victim.

Mr Hawker, I'm rooting for your family to see some justice done in this case. If you read these news sites, please allow me to express my condolences to your family.

    Yawn...how is this news?
Allow me to predict the next fascinating article here "Japan's sky is blue...and has been for a long time." I mean, really. Anyone who has been here over a week has surely noted this phenomenon.

They talk about it so they never have to implement any policies to make immigration easier. It's the definition of lip service.

I don't think anyone on this board is claiming to be a "professional gaijin bower" (is that even an occupation?) and I certainly hope no one is insulting his gesture of respect (I'm not, I think his motivation for it was one of deep respect and friendship). However, if you're going to bow, you should at least do it correctly. Considering it is his staff's JOB to verse him in proper etiquette in foreign countries, I'm shocked they didn't even bother to show him how to bow. It's not difficult. You don't have to be an athlete or hold a degree in rocket science to execute a proper bow. It makes me wonder exactly who is briefing him and I question how well his handler's understand Japan, that's all.
For anyone who's lived here over a year, American or otherwise, to NOT know how to bow correctly is pathetic. I've only lived here over a year and I DO know how to bow correctly. My POV is and always has been that if you're going to do something, do it right.
If he was just Joe Amerikajin-san it wouldn't be a big deal, but he's my head of state, so it is a big deal when he goofs up something this simple because some idiot didn't take five minutes to show him how to do it right.

I don't think he meant to do an apology bow. Truthfully, I think whoever taught him how to bow simply didn't teach him how to do it properly. Look at his hand, folks. He's not even doing a male bow!! Props to him for showing respect and I sincerely hope most Japanese view his gesture as such, but I'm afraid he may have just come off as a bit of a buffoon. I sincerely hope whatever idiot is teaching him how to deal with the locals here gets fired, because it's clear they lack even the slightest understanding of basic manners in Japanese society. He has great intentions, but his staff here are clearly not up to snuff.

If you look at his other hand, it almost looks like he was attempting a female bow. Perhaps the Emperor was trying to help him save some face so he grabbed his hand?

This actually happens quite often to me, so I sympathize with Mr. Obama.
You go down for a bow, expecting to show a little cultural respect and they grab your hand for a handshake.
A very awkward position to be in (pun intended) the first time it happens.
Of course, what can he do? Can't let go of the Emperor's hand (rude) and can't get out of the bow, so.............. Voila! JT's photo of the day.

Thanks for the information, the article didn't mention she was living in the dorms. As far as someone walking her home, do you really think someone would have? It's a possibility, sure, but do you really think it's likely? I've seen Japanese people leave their friends in the street here when they drink too much, so I have my doubts. I guess my main point is that perhaps we should all start doing things to prevent crimes like this, ranging from walking a coworker/friend home from work to asking a high school kid in an elevator if some guy is making her uncomfortable. Simple, easy and it may prevent a violent crime.

I like blue Christmas lights, personally and since they're everywhere in the States I have no problem getting them back home.
The wilder the decorations the better, I say! Isn't Christmas allowed to have a little whimsy and fun?

I wonder why no one thought to walk her home after she mentioned it was "scary"? That would have set off alarm bells for me, and if it were my father he would have hit the roof and started walking me home from work.
ESPECIALLY if I were this girl's age.

Not all Japanese men have inadequacies. Predatory men exist in every race, and they actively seek out victims they can dominate.
These victims can include your timid high school girl, your kind-hearted eikawa sensei and a nice girl who works at an ice cream shop.
Any woman can be a victim, any man can be a predator. Be careful and read the news.

@DolphinGirl- I actually wasn't referring to your post, I was unaware of you ever posting things like "I hope they hang her a hundred #$$$$$$ times" on this thread or any others. If you have, I apologize for overlooking it.

As far as trying to understand criminal behavior, I would recommend taking a good psychology course. It's definitely a lot more useful than casting aspersions on a victim's character. Just because a reaction may be natural doesn't make it any less offensive.

In this case, whatever her motivations, she still killed an innocent child and I don't have any sympathy. I'm sorry she had debts, but murder doesn't really absolve you of financial responsibility, does it?
Besides, she had options. She could have gotten a job.

Personally, I would prostitute myself before I murdered my own child if the situation was that dire. People who take life don't deserve sympathy from anyone. A human life is worth way more than 10 million yen.
