I've never ever seen a good dubbed movie, in any language whatsoever. Dubbing is only good for those who are too lazy to read subtitles and enjoy the movie in it's original voices. Even the Chinese kung-fu movies I remember were so campy with their dubbing, that it was refreshing when I saw a subtitled version of the Chinese movie "House of Flying Daggers". Didn't understand a word of Chinese, but appreciated the movie in it's true essence.

The theatres now are full of almost only Japanese films. We only get the very big named international films here now. Which is a shame.

So true. Unfortunately, it is up to the movie studio and producers to decide where and when it is released to other countries. While blockbusters like "Harry Potter" get the preferential treatment and are allowed to be shown the same time the rest of the world sees it, lesser known films take awhile for release to other countries, and thus after it is translated, take awhile for it to be released to the public.

How is this different from the Japanese government planting people to favour nuclear technology in the 'news'?

And what does your quote have anything to do with this train crash in China? Sounds like just another outlet for bashing; as well as being off topic.

I think the victims' families would rather hear the truth about what really happened in the accident than receive any compensation the government can give them.

IMO, it was China's rush to say that it "made a breakthrough in high-speed train technology" that caused this accident. Fact is, that China just pushed the original technology, from Japan and Germany, to an unsafe limit (over 350kph). Yes, Germany and Japan have done "experimental" train tests of over 400kph in the past, but I guess China doesn't understand the difference between "experimental speed limits" and "operational speed limits". Add that to the fact that building and testing this train system was a rush job and that the driver's training time was shortened; and you had the recipe for disaster.

And let's not forget the fact that China had recently claimed that "their train technology" had surpassed that of countries like Japan, France, and Germany. Add that to the fact that companies such as Alstrom and Siemens have also filed claims of patent infringement by the Chinese government on rail technology. All of this leads to a serious black eye for China. Could get worse if after digging up the buried trains, they find more bodies.

Why in the world would you quickly try to bury the train wreckage without thoroughly taking the time to search for all bodies (or possible survivors). I've heard that many Chinese are upset because many of their loved ones are still yet unaccounted for. Plus, it seems odd to me to bury something without finding the real cause of it first. Seems to me China just wants to quickly cover up its shame.

There is a category for everyone.

LOL. That's so true. Yes, there are some people who like to be stimulated intellectually and get their money's worth when watching a movie, while others prefer to watch something mindless, just to keep them occupied. It kind of reminds me of my friend who just has to pop in a Pokemon DVD and it'll keep the kid occupied for hours.

FIFA is a joke. Blatters problem is that he didn't address the fact that he knew long ago that Hammam was offering bribes for votes to the Carribean Football Union. Blatter should answer why he did nothing when he knew for months about it.

With parents like that, I'm guessing that their daughter will grow up either working in a hostess bar or in the porn industry. I guess not all daughters can have a well-adjusted father like a Tsutomu Sekine (tarento Mari Sekine's father), or Sanma-san (father of Imalu).

No one needs to be walking around all the time with a 10-inch blade.

Good point. I'm sure walking around with a blade longer than 10" in your pants or on the inside jacket pocket would be more uncomfortable and dangerous than walking around with a gun hidden. Then again, I wouldn't even want to walk around with a loaded weapon of any kind. I could imagine it could get downright nasty and uncomfortable if your date and you suddenly wanted to get down and dirty, with a loaded gun in your pants or jacket pocket. I also wonder where you keep it hidden in summer. Your shorts?

    What happened to Kitajima?

He placed fourth; just missing out on a medal in the 100 m. breaststroke. World record holder, Rickard placed fifth. It was in yesterday's JT news and on TV. The win by the Brazilian Cielo in the 50 butterfly garnered more headlines as he won despite the criticism by the media and fellow swimmers on doping charges against him. If you want to keep up with all the results and news about the World Swimming Championships, you can follow it every night on Asahi Television. It's been running every night and starts at about 7:00pm., I think. I've seen some really good races, such as that awesome win by that South Korean monster swimmer Park Tae-Hwan in the 400m freestyle. Many of these swimmers are nearly 2 meters tall! The Aussie relay team win over the U.S. (they actually placed 3rd) was thrilling as well. If you're not watching, then you're really missing out.

they were pushing hard to keep it in the olympics, right?

True, and softball is popular in Japan, but I've never seen any coverage of a "World Cup" of softball. The only thing that has ever been covered was the Olympics. The fact is that the "World Cup of softball" has never been shown, and will probably never, and it has nothing to do whether Japan wins or not. There's just not much interest in it as there is when it's played in the Olympics. Thus, softball's push to have it in the Olympics. I guess the Olympics carries more prestige and weight, than a tournament that takes its name after a more popular sport: soccer.

This won't get airtime simply because it's a minor sport (softball; hence it being omitted from the next Olympic games), and the World Cup of softball is not as prestigious anyway, as the Olympics. If it were soccer, they would show it, even if Japan would lose, since if you show a game live, you can never know the outcome until you show it, right? In any case, softball is like cricket and badminton; minor sports that don't get much airtime anyway.

you have taken my last post out of context.

rainman1: As you have slandered my previous post. You stated in a previous post that I said:

"That Japan should hold out a little longer? Can't understand why anybody, anywhere would want to stick with analogue TV. Pointless discussion."

I never ever mentioned that we should stick with analog forever. All I said that it is wrong to say that Japan, or any country for that matter, is behind the rest of the world. I agree with that we should change to digital and that Japan is lock-step with the rest of the world in doing so. Saying one country is late in doing it (as some other posters have said; not necessarily you), is not constructive at all. There's nothing wrong, as long as it eventually happens.

Your point being? That Japan should hold out a little longer?

rainman1: My point being that Japan is pretty much in line with what most of the world has been doing. Lambasting a country for not being the first to change to digital, or a little late to do so is pointless.

Bottom line is that it has taken the step and made sure it issued notifications that it would do it, years in advance. People make it seem a painful transition, when it really isn't.

I watched the showdown between Park and Yang live, and it was thrilling. Yang caught up some ground on the last 50m, but Park just had too much of a lead at the turn, for Yang to catch up. The 4x100m relay is always exciting to watch. Congrats to the Aussies.

Go and have a look at Digital Transistion on Wiki - If anything Japan is behind on this. Many, many countries (a lot more than I thought) have already done it. Better pictures, better sound just happen to come along with it.

Not really. Most of the countries in the world have NOT fully switched to digital transmission. Japan, along with countries such as the U.K., Australia, Italy, South Korea, and Canada are still in the transition of switching over completely to digital. Only some countries like the U.S., Spain, Germany, and Switzerland have completely switched over.

This sounds so much like so many other stories I've heard all over the world about sports stars either using Twitter to voice ill about their teammates and coaches, or other people tweeting ill about sports stars and such. Next, we'll start hearing about athletes here tweeting during games, like in so many other places.

What do these baseball players think they are, professional NBA or NFL players? At least the NBA or NFL players have a right to demand a bigger share of revenues (as evidenced by the recent lockouts in both sports). If they are amateurs, they have no right to demand pay for playing. NBA players have been asking to be paid at future Olympic games, and I guess have a right, since they are professional athletes. These baseball players, if they are amateurs shouldn't have a right to ask.

Its toooooo boring. I speak and understand the language but the shows are soooooooooooooo BLAND.

whiskeysour: Agree with you. All TV shows in every country is soooo boring. Everything's been done before. There is nothing original in the world anymore. Even so-called reality TV has been done to the limit. DVDs are also boring as they are simply a recording of bland stuff. Even documentaries can be bland as it's just showing what you could and should experience by yourself, with your own eyes.
