Calling a society that would one day be free of prejudice and discrimination of any form as "depraved". Sounds pretty twisted to me.

Personally, I like Lady Gaga. She may look creepy at times, but she is more intelligent than people think. She also has heart, soul and pizazz. I actually like some of her music and prefer it to all the bland, generic idol groups in the world these days. She is also constantly active in a number of good causes.

They're all beautiful women, but is it just me, or does some of them look like each others' twin (especially the second one from the left and the fourth from the right). Can't really tell them apart. When I first saw this pic, without reading the caption, I first thought that it was KARA, and they suddenly got more members.

What kind of comment is that? Seems like an excuse to me. It was a really good match though. Both competitors played well and tough. Kimiko wasn't just "lucky", but was hanging tough because of sheer determination and grit.

Ishikawa has always exhibited class and humility. McIlroy also has those same traits and thus could be called the "anti-Tiger". Tiger has always had a coolness and aggressiveness that has won him many a major. Fans have respected him, but knew to keep their distance from him lest they incite his wrath and F-bomb tirade. McIlroy seems more down-to-earth and humble, even after winning his first major title. I'm sure he will win many more and be a great champion. I'm sure Ryo Ishikawa will be a champion in his own right as well. Good luck to the both of them!

Well, four stores to be exact; and they were all not quite so good; especially when I was in L.A. In fact, I recently was passing through Honolulu, and could've sworn there was a KK there before, but it's not there anymore. I guess people were turned off by the gooey taste.
Well, to each his own, I guess. On one end of the spectrum, you'll have die-hard fans of Mr. Donut, and on the other end you'll have those who say it's totally all wrong, and then most people will be at varying degrees in the middle. The same could be said of Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, etc. I guess we both agree that's why these three stores have stayed in business for so long; that there are enough fans for all donut chains to keep them in business.
No matter how much I don't like Mr. Donut, the one thing I do have to say is that the way they package and present it to you is really nice. Back in the U.S., I've had a couple of instances where the donut I was served was partially smashed in with some of the frosting off of it. When I eat a donut, I really don't want to have to be going to the work of putting the frosting back onto the donut to enjoy it, now do I? But I guess customer service has nothing to do with the actual taste of it.

Well, I agree that each person has their own tastes, which I guess brings up the point that Krispy Kreme, Mr, Donuts, Dunkin Donuts, and so on have their respective fans and thus is why they remain in business for so long. I guess I'm just a bit more picky and not only think about a donut's (or any pastry for that matter) taste, but also its texture. If you're looking for something for just its sweetness, then I guess KK and DD would do fine. Me, I just choose not to eat at those places because I also like a donut where I don't have to chew it and chew it like a piece of gum before swallowing it.
Agreed, but the same could also be said of Krispy Kreme. The donuts there, at least the ones in the U.S. are just starchy, gummy goo that is made to look like a donut. It's just a slightly gummier version of a Twinkie with a sugary coating on it. Heck, I bet I could get a bunch of Twinkies, shape it into a ring, cover it with sugar and sell it as a Krispy Kreme donut.

Good gun control measures means that no one should be able to get a gun illegally. People go on and on that all Americans have the right to bear arms. However, I feel that the right to feel safe in their own country should supersede that right to bear arms. The government does all it can to protect Americans from threats abroad, but should remember that sometimes the greater threat lies among its own citizens who own guns illegally. Arming oneself may protect you from one other perp with a gun, but I sincerely doubt it would protect you from a whole gang with guns locked and loaded on your one gun. That gang would then shoot you dead and take your gun, thus adding more guns to the bad guys' stockpile.

Yup, stories like these make me appreciate living in Japan, where after 10 years, I can still feel safe walking to my local convenience store at night to pick up some ice cream, without having a bulky dangerous thing like a gun holstered under my arm. Heck, there are many places in the U.S. I wouldn't even think of going during the day. I too still love the U.S., but I always have to remember to put up my guard and always think twice about where and when I go certain places.

Sorry, but Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme just appeals to those who like a ton of sugar on a gooey donut. Maybe it's because my DD and KK experiences were all in the U.S. I guess they have no concept of product quality there. But I agree with you; tastes are subjective and for those who like gooey donuts with a ton of sugar on it, then DD and KK would be your thing. MrD, while not as sweet, doesn't have the fluffiness of a real donut. In summary, the chain donut shops just mass produce their foods without a whole lot of quality control. The smaller bakeries and patisseries put more care into their product and thus create works of art.

Good point. After all, not all of us can look like a Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, or a slim model like a Heidi Klum. But hey, that's what a lot of media, Hollywood and such try to subliminally push upon everyone; that beautiful people are successful, rich, and loved by everyone.
Try telling that to my fellow expat co-workers at the eikaiwa I work at. Time and time again, I see them chatting up only the good-looking students and customers coming for information, while not even giving a glance at others. It makes me really ashamed as a foreigner. And then, when they see me greeting everyone else (and women who they deem "average-looking"), they give me a bit of a smirk like I don't have the balls to talk with someone beautiful. And to think these guys probably did the same thing back in their own countries. These immature people have never learned that it's human decency to greet and show a certain amount of respect to everyone, no matter how they look.

If you want a real donut, never ever go to a chain store like Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, or Mister Donut. Always go to the smaller bakeries which take more care into their pastries. Tokyo has a ton of them available. However, I do confess that I find Donut Plant's donuts pretty darn huge, fluffy and delicious.

A belated congrats to Boston. They really deserved it; especially after all of the shenanigans the Canucks tried to pull. Luongo is such as twit. Not only is he not good in the clutch, but he is also a braggart. I guess he and Vancouver learned the hard way to NEVER EVER give the opponent extra motivation to kick your ***. The violent riots in Vancouver is shocking. You would think there was some kind of coup going on, or a natural disaster had just happened. The way Vancouver looks now, you would never think it was only because they lost a game. Geez Vancouver, get a grip. It was a game. Yes, an important one, but still not worth all the hate and violence.

Of course people are hired based on their looks (and height and weight). But, no employer in the world would ever admit to it. Yes, there are so-called equal opportunity laws and such, but they're purely a facade and so many companies find ways to get around them. Unfortunately this discrimination is a part of human nature, and while there are exceptions to the rule, most people would feel more attracted casually and professionally to people who are good-looking and not fat.

Kara, and now AKB48. I have yet to see an idol group or idol solo artist that has any talent whatsoever. Then again, I guess that's why they call them "idols". Idols rely on the way they dress and appear and nothing else. At least divas like Lady Gaga or Amuro Namie have more charisma and rhythm.

Idols are idols the world over. Nice eye candy, but that's about it. Those with more substance to them don't have to resort to putting their good looks as their selling point.
I totally agree. I tried watching a bit of KARA on TV, but couldn't stand it. Really fake. But I guess they won't end up doing drugs or end up in jail, like some other pop idols in the world end up doing.

I also learned that it was shown on BS-1 as well (which is a cable station costing at the same low rate you would pay for cable in other countries like the U.S.).

Bad idea. Learn a lesson from every nation that has hosted a World Cup or Olympics: It ain't profitable. I read an article recently where the glorious "Bird's Nest" in Beijing is in utter demise; a huge multi-million dollar white elephant hanging around the government's neck. It happens all the time.
