Perhaps the father wasn't working. Perhaps he can never see the children under Japan's ancient sole…
Will he comment on the origin of the recently found radioactive noodles. http://mdn.mainichi.jp/mdnnews/news/20120213p2a00m0na010000c.html

@Wurthington. I am a working mother with 3 young kids. I have never left them alone...oh…
I've got mixed feelings about this report. First - it's just a report of an estimation…

The only reason it would make sense to defend the status quo would be if there was a clear plan to build a high-capacity, dedicated high speed rail line between Narita and Haneda, ideally a maglev train that could do the journey in about 15-20 minutes terminal to terminal.
It is unbelieveably dumb for these people to be campaigning for a Tokyo - Osaka maglev when there is a much better application for such technology right here at a much lower price (though still $$$ Billions, of course).
If no such connection improved is planned, development of Haneda into a hub makes perfect sense - or, of course, the reverse approach, to kill Haneda and develop Narita for domestic flights.
The current situation is completely illogical without one of the developments above.

BhuddismTech - you don't sound much like a Bhuddist to me...
Both the parents in this case appear to be guilty, quite equally, as they both abducted the children. The difference is that the mother succeeded getting them out of the USA and the Father failed to get them out of Japan. I think they're both in the wrong.

I'm already tired of seeing his face on posters, and he's won the square root of b*gger all in serious golf tournaments so far.
Every time I see those ANA adverts, I thank myself he's driving golf balls and not flying planes.

Assuming that she wasn't tricked or coerced into taking the drugs, then obviously the deceased woman could be held at least partly responsible for the tragic outcome. However, this nightmare scenario is one in which it's easy enough for Oshio to blame everything on the dead woman, who obviously cannot contradict his version of events.
Is it likely that she bought the drugs, got naked and then took them with Oshio? Maybe - but if they find out he did buy them, I suspect that he'll be going down. If it turns out that he is lying and trying to save his a**e by blaming the victim of his stupidity, then a long stretch is the least he deserves....

Is socialism inherently "evil" though? Of course not - it is the conservative American definition of it which fails to make the obvious distinction between a political system and the way in which it can be applied.
If the plan can establish a minimum standard of state-funded health care for those who cannot afford private health insurance, why would any right thinking person object, even one hung up on whether it looks too European or not.
Honestly, you should listen to yourselves sometimes

Tried - and found guilty - by the Japanese media. Fuji TV announcers look reproachful and concerned. Case closed.
It was 0.008 grams, for Pete's sake, and then not even proven it was hers. A slap on the wrist, plus loss of face / reputation, and a long public repentance should suffice

Sounds like it was his attitude towards women that was the problem - since there are major losers everywhere with girlfriends. This is clearly a case of mental illness and deep down he was possibly a repressed homosexual.

Well I hope this is true. Anyone who sends out legions of suicide bombers deserves such a fate.
Hopefully they can also locate the position of the meeting which the other Taliban are supposed to have scheduled and wipe out that lot with one shot as well

UnagiDon - that's not really fair. Of the English teachers I've met in Japan, most seem to either be passing through anyway, or here for the duration and having to make a career out of it, in which case they must strive to get the best jobs by being suitably experienced and qualified. There are quite a number of losers, but you could say the same about any job or profession.
Given the amount that you post on these boards, I assume you are retired rather than in gainful employment yourself...

WilliB = Daily Mail reader?
meanwhile, back in the real world...support for the BNP is decreasing. Half of their supporters are more recent arrivals to Britain than the "immigrants" (3rd, 4th generation?) that they are campaigning to remove. It is simply a party of working class hatred against people who have made a successful move to Britain.
Labour's abject failure results in embarassing episodes such as this. Voters will come back and put Griffin and his ilk back on the extreme fringes where their disgusting world view belongs

The large majority of people in Britain reject the views of the BNP entirely.
This, sadly, is a victory for voter apathy - the BNP's total number of votes actually fell, it's just that their share of the vote increased because disillusioned voters who would normally vote for mainstream parties stayed at home.
I take some heart from that fact.
The BNP are a bunch of bigots trying to put a respectable face on a nasty, racist agenda. Shame on anyone applauding them here - the usual inferiority-complex anti-British U.S. conservatives by the look of it. No surprise there

This author is so misinformed that you have to also wonder what comes next? "Tokyo's lack of restaurants"...?
All I can say in JJ Vicars' defence is that sometimes a lot of live houses and bars with live music are tucked away in less than obvious locations - but there are plenty of them, as almost everyone here seems to agree
