I haven't seen the film, but I know the way the story goes and it sounds like Will Smith has made one of the most sanctimonious and self-righteous movies in history. I won't be bothering with this.

I'm all for online communities supporting each other, etc., but how screwed up is this? Promoting the idea of being a friendless, loveless, meaningless drop-out with no self esteem is hardly a good idea
If they were losers before, they are even more so now...

Japanese "politeness" in the general sense is a total myth.
More normal than the situation in the poster is for people to feign sleep in courtesy seats. I have woken a few up when necessary...
Personally, I regard ANY seat to be a courtesy seat, but I guess a lot of Japanese people don't because "it doesn't say so"

If you have a warped sense of ethics like Hamas, it WAS a victory. They now have even stronger support from the Palestinians to carry on attacking Israel. Israel's actions will have been completely futile and counterproductive, as the rest of the World has been telling Israel and ex-Prez Bush ever since this latest murder spree started.
Only by marginalising the terrorists can you turn the civilian population against them. Israel's done precisely the reverse

VOR - how nice to know that the Israelis are there defending us Europeans against the Arab hordes....
...doesn't really look like it from what I see on the news, though

VOR: "Israel is ready for peace"
That'd be funny if we weren't talking about a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe of Israel's deliberate making - one that will do nothing more than further enrage the Palestinians to oppose Israel even more strongly, causing exactly the opposite of what they say they are trying to achieve.
If Israel rebuilt Palestine, allowed economic development, gave people their freedom and statehood and treated them with respect, the terrorists would be marginalised and over time their support would fade away. Europe has realised this, and I predict that the USA will do the same once Obama is finally sworn in

Sarge, the fact that in your world there are no "innocent civilians" suggests to me that you think those who died on 9/11 were legitimate targets as well.
Why do you think these civilians support Hamas, which is the only resistance to the Israeli occupation which blockades their land, steals their property and prevents even medicines and food getting in to help the people? You'd support Hamas with your usual patriotic vigour, if you were in their shoes.
Try and think about it for once

VOR: mmmm..... let's compare the casualties on each side, shall we?
Even if you thought that the death of one Israeli from a Hamas rocket attack was "worth" the death of hundreds of Palestinian civilians (which would be pretty sick to be honest), do you really think that such a response is likely to lead to future peace and security for Israel?
If you do, you are living in fantasy land

wookwook - sorry, but you are not correct. If there was a functioning government in Somalia - even an Islamic one hostile to the West - then this problem would almost certainly be tackled. There have been several reports that the Somalian islamists have declared war on the pirates for seizing a Saudi-owned vessel. The only motivation for pirate acitivity is financial gain

Plus, with their now-usual double standards, the Americans would be the first to whine if the Japanese government gave Japanese carmakers a JPY 2.5 trn "loan" that it full well knew would never be paid back

usaexpat - as you well know, without a viable, functioning banking system, the world economy has big problems. If GM goes to the wall, simply buy a Toyota (also proudly built in the US by American auto workers).
Perhaps that explains the US government's priorities to you
