"several cinemagoers"- how is this even news? Or are we just picking on people from one area/ city/country because if "a small number" of people from there are stupid then they all must be? Please don't let facts get in the way of any supercilious rants, though.

genji, Thank you for informing me of my rights. You posted a false statement. Japan hunts fin whales, which are endangered. I was correcting your mistake. Keep rolling those eyes, but maybe you'd be better served by using them to check your facts.

America, Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands should focus on actual world problems... not some Japanese boats killing a few un-endagered whales. *rolleyes
The fin whale sits fairly and squarely on the endangered list. *rolleyes

Might be a good idea to emigrate to a country with no extradition treaty, too.

Qantas refused to negotiate for 5 months, then came to the table with an offer that would slash established Australian work and training standards. Qantas made $530 million or so in profits and Joyce himself received a 70 pc pay rise ($2 million). Qantas executives received $14 million in the 10/11 fiscal year up from $8 million the previous year. The TWU has around 4500 members involved who vote for or against strike action and are fairly unlikely to destroy their own jobs with ridiculous demands ( like a 70 pc pay increase, for example). Not trying to attack anyone, but there are two sides in this dispute.

McDonald's has a great deal of experience in preparing and selling food. It would be a brave person that said their products are the highest quality.

Sad for USA, but good to see an African nation in the next round. Bad luck for the Korean team, they looked very good in the second half, especially when Uruguay was sitting back and defending- but that last goal from Suarez was a great effort. The England vs. Germany game should be great- the poms better play well- I wonder if it'll go to penalties lol.

majimeaussie, Agree with you. With an election in the offing, he fell on his sword to allow Gillard time to establish herself as leader. I think Rudd had a lot more to offer, but his current unpopularity and a few gaffes have left him a bit of a liability for election prospects. Having said that, Gillard is a capable politician and I think she'll serve Australia well. On a side note, I wonder whether Rudd suffered similarly to Gough Whitlam in that he tried to change too much too quickly? Any thoughts?

MrDog,
And you're just saying it's not wrong. Bribing nations with aid is not wrong, an interesting argument.
It is illegal, it is wrong, and tying desperately needed aid to voting in the IWC completely immoral.
No Japanese taxpayer has given permission for this to occur, the whaling industry cannot sustain itself without millions and millions more of taxpayers cash. I wonder what the total cost to the Japanese taxpayer is for this ridiculous exercise in futility?
I also wonder how supportive people like ossan and mrdog would be if the money and bribes paid were going to the anti-whaling side. After the shrill hysteria at the actions of Pete Bethune, with posters here advocating anything up to capital punishment, where are the calls for the government officials to be punished? Instead, we only get puerile justifications. There is ample evidence of corruption and bribery throughout the industry, and the apologists deny the facts because the evidence hasn't actually been personally delivered to them.
