Naw, I don't think he can even win a three way campaign. In the meantime, check out the cover of this week's "Economist." Amusing.

Tornados are nasty but more survivable than a tsunami. Still, I'm amazed about the lack of shelters and basements in OK. I was talking to a guy in OKC once and ask him what he could do without a basement if a tornado hit. He said "probably die." It's sad.

21% agreed? I would have guessed just Ishihara and the guys in the black vans. But it's apparent that the Japanese public has it right. Hashimoto has put his foot firmly in it this time. But it could be worse. If this was China we'd be arrested for saying so. So, even though Hashimoto is wrong, I'm glad Japan is willing to stand up to China.

There are abuses in any war. There are those who would say that war itself is an abuse. But there are countries that make a formal process of abuse crimes versus countries whose soldiers commit crimes. In WWII Germany and Japan were in the former catagory. It wasn't necessary. It was, in the case of Japan, nihon vs. gaijin; men superior to women, women as chattel to be abused whenever.
The other issue is that what any other country did does not justify what Japan did. The Holocaust in Germany and slavery in the US does not absolve Japan.
The only good thing about the discussion is that it puts a light on the cockroaches so that you can watch them scurry back under the fridge. And then call pest control.

I can tell you that my sister-in-law had the test, it was negative, and she ended up with cancer within a year - stage 3 before they caught it. Thankfully she seems to be fine now. My MiL died of ovarian cancer and her sister from breast cancer so my wife had the test and it came back negative - fingers crossed.
Reading up on the test and the treatment the surgery is no guarantee that cancer won't develop. There has to be a lot of extra screening done to make sure something doesn't slip through.
Still, I think she made a rational decision. Our niece just did the same thing a month ago. It's much easier if the cancer isn't already on the rampage. Perhaps Ms. Jolie will help other women make hard decisions that save their own lives.

I can see where a Chinese company would substitue used parts for new. Happens in the US all the time if you're not with a reputable repair shop. It seems like a waste of a perfectly good car, but it's his money.

Talk about really getting upset over what is, most likely, nothing at all. Don't the Koreans have anything better to do? This just makes it seem that the complaints about comfort women, which have some basis in reality, are just more of the same. Anything to get upset about the Japanese? Get over it. Stick to real, current issues.

I see even Japanese politicians have a bad case of foot-in-mouth disease. Although I agree with ka-chan that Japan has a long way to go on equal rights, this stupid statement that "comfort women are necessary" is completely beyond the pale. Sounds like the guy needs a pie in the face so that he doesn't take himself so seriously next time he opens his mouth.

Dunno. This is Japan so parents feel safer about their kids being alone. But a bicycle on public streets? No way a 5 y/o can be expected to have the judgement necessary to make that safe, IMHO. Hope she pulls through. I wonder if she was wearing a helmet.

There's a moral obligation to close Gitmo too, but that hasn't happened yet. Syria is a much bigger problem and Obama doesn't have the brass for the job. I'm not even sure the US should bother, but I really doubt that wet noodle president is up to the task. If the opinion polls in the US say no then it's not going to happen.

That's got to be the nuttiest claim made by the Chinese to date - well, except for Tibet. Are the Chinese "scholars" trying to one - up Kim Jong Un? They're doing a good job of looking silly and stupid. Takes hard work to be this far over the top. Next they'll be doing comedy in Vegas.

Why is it that every day we hear about how members of the "religion of peace" are out killing others in the name of religion? There isn't another religion in the world that carries on like this any more. It's sick.

Well, it's not over until the fat Un sings. I wonder what the "official" explanation of this will be in the propaganda? Hopefully the next step won't be to do something stupid to save face.

I guess I'm reading this as the guy was trying to file a complaint but was basically irrational or incoherent. At which point the cop should have had the poor guy sit down while he filled out the paperwork for a psych eval. I guess that's not how things work in Japan? The only time I've been to a koban is to ask for directions - they're good for that!

Unfortunately it seems that it's the hardline Muslims, and a lot of them, who want to kill people. Given that "death to infidels" is a basic tenant of Islam I guess there's not much wiggle room for the moderates to speak out against their bloodthirsty breatheren.
