Will the trains run if the power is out? Not really sure if it's a good idea to go to work tomorrow. I have a suggestion for Mr. Kan. Make tomorrow a holiday, tell everyone to stay home and save power by snuggling up - this might even help with the declining population, and shut all the pachinko parlors.

I sympathize with the recruiters. Imagine having to talk everyday to clueless idiots. It's no wonder they are turning to foreign graduates. Anyone can pass a J-uni, including braindead zombies.

If it were a phone I could get cheap through a carrier I might get one. I wonder if they thought about adding that function.

    '1,000-fold' military buildup

That's NK for you - always entertainingly absurd. But it is just internal propaganda. Different messages for the outside world.

Along with inheriting NK it looks like the heir-apparent son has also inherited his Dad's hair style, pudgy figure, his really poor sense of fashion in clothing and maybe even the sunglasses too. Wouldn't that be enough to make anyone go completely nuts. I bet he was dreading this day coming. But I guess on the plus side he gets all the girls, booze ,good food and power trips he can handle. May wonderfully wierd NK continue as the strangest country on the planet by a mile!!!

Same story as in most other developed countries as full time work goes abroad. Most young people are not building up savings and assests like their parents could while at the same time burdened by paying their pensions. Well, at least rents will fall eventually.

It's not a profession. Professions normally have associations with registered members and limits membership by way of qualifications and experience to ensure standards backed by law. Replace the word profession with entertainer or prostitute (depending on your opinion).

Come to think of it he probably had an outstanding loan - hospital could have been a safe place to hide, until he got out.

The whole dildo thing they did onstage wasnt really my thing. I reckon thats half the reason they didnt make it big. Otherwise the music wasnt too bad. Like some other HM hair bands - too much posing.

Computers are starting to come out with blu-ray and I will just get one of those and hook it up to the tv. Starting to get cheaper. I cant work out why stand alone HD recorders / blu-ray are still so expensive

It would be interesting to know how much demand there is by Japanese companies for staff with advanced degrees such as an MBA. Will they pay their staff to take this kind of degree? Not many students in Japan continue studies after finishing their undergraduate because they fear missing the window of employment. I get the impression that most companies want new recruits to have a 4 year degree, be around 23 years old with little or no experience and don't hire full-time career staff outside of this system. Contrast this with overseas where they generally want you to have experience and prefer higher degrees before hiring. Is this changing in Japan or are people just desperately taking courses because of the recession.

Weaker SDF is good news for Asia, and at least China won't feel threatened by Japan when they pull back the marines. They are also keeping their military on a shoestring so it all balances - for now. There has obviously been a need to cut back and merge bases and operations which hasn't been done and this is the real story - poor leadership. Are they top heavy?

I love how they say there is no chance of a catastrophic accident while at the same time telling us they are entering a new unchartered area of knowledge and discovery. The rest of us are just hoping they haven't miscalculated. And remember the the study of atomics did lead to a bomb which was used.

Most other developed countries have managed to afford universal public health care systems. It's a question of guns or butter for America.

My bet is money problems from gambling / loans. Too organized to be the usual random attack by a nutter. The Jcops should be able to find someone who can talk and they have the body. Lets see how long it takes them.

Outnumbered and outgunned, Taliban fighters are mounting a tougher fight than expected in Marjah...sounds a bit like CoD2. But more seriously why would they try to stand and fight? Martyrdom? Nowhere else to run to? Guerrilla tactics no longer working (which have for the past numerous wars)?

A teacher once told me management (in Japan) can do anything they like. Proper regulation of the industry by government including reviews of management systems and practices as part of a regular inspection process, together with a national body (union?) for language teachers at registered and approved schools would help to protect their pay, conditions, job satisfaction and real learning outcomes for students. The English conversation industry employs mainly young foreigners on 1 year contracts (with low pay and no benefits - not sure if that is case by case or generalization) and are powerless. Not surprisingly dissatisfation by many teachers and students is apparently high. Job security and wages are falling (another generalization?), which actually helps short term profits at some schools(companies) /outsourcing companies. The industry operates in an environment which seems to be going in one direction - down! The government of Japan doesn't act to introduce real quality assurance systems even as schools go bankrupt and teachers and students get short changed (they don't care?) In contrast with NZ/Aus, who very much care about student numbers and satisfaction as part of a strategy to grow a long-term sustainable industry, have regulations as part of a strategy which Japan (and most of the rest of Asia) are yet to copy.
