Why does the right need affermation by an old WHITE guy? It looks like the nationalists still got s "white man is superior" complex. They need white affirmation to feel that their case is good.

In that Taiwan building, not only have they found empty oil cans filling up the center of the columns, they have found huge chunks of styrofoam. Definitely not for reinforcement, and definitely a murderous act. Someone needs to be convicted.

address "labor market rigidity"? Yeah, that means companies can freely fire employees. Then watch the birth rate fall to zero as more undertainty grips young people (you know, last hired first fired).

Now the news reports are showing images of the broken columns supported the building having large empty oil cans and styrofoam in the center to save cement. This definitely weakened the building. There will be law suits, and I hope the contractors go to prison for a long time. The contractors should be forced to help with the resque of people in the building so they have things to think about while in prison.

Does "negative interest rate" mean that the BOJ will pay me to borrow money? That seems like a win-win situation.

Japan has always traded with Iran, and it is a sort of popular tourist destination. Remember a year or two ago when the US stopped Iran from banking internationally, and Japan said "NO"? The US gave Japan an exemption as a face-saving measure. When I was a kid in the 80s, there were a lot of Iranians here in Tokyo doing labor. They all gathered at Yoyogi Park in Shibuya on the weekend for "Little Tehran". We got to eat great Iranian food (but I don't remember what the things were called). Hope they return with that food!

Well, it is not well publicized of course, but Japan and Iran have always been in business.

Tonight's NHK news devoted 20 out of 30 minutes on the volcano. And yet they, and nobody, mentioned that there is a nuclear plant down the road. Interesting.

Have there been any complaints by tourists who have seen this "swastika"? Are there tourists who actually think Japanese are Nazi worshipers?
Posted in: Japan may change temple map icon to avoid Nazi swastika confusion
gokai_wo_manekuFeb. 05, 2016 - 05:30PM JST
But what about when tourists arrive at the temples and see the "swastika" all over the place? You chould just put a brief explanation in the guide for the symbols used on the map.

If the music executives stopped snorting coke long enough to realize what was going on in the geeky computer networking world, they may have easily headed off all the pirating of music by setting up online downloads like they have now. But they were like a decade too late to realize what the immediate future was about to bring. It is their own fault that I got my library for free. I would have paid if a payment system was the first online. We wanted music realy bad!
Posted in: It is natural that copyright holders want to protect their rights because high-quality copies can be made easily today thanks to the advancement of digital devices. However, it is also understandable that consumers find it unfair that use of legitimately downloaded songs at wedding parties is prohibited, because they don’t intend to distribute pirated copies.

I'm just glad I downloaded my extensive library of music back in the late 90s when I was a high school student. I was one of the first among my friends to get ISDN then DSN (now optical fiber to the door). We didn't have any concept of "copyright" etc.

There is no chance that the US congress will sign off on this deal. So this is really a non-story.

Whether it was a joke or not (it depends on what you definition of "joke" is), he is an immediate danger to his students, and should be gone. Wait until his "jokes" start to escallate as his mental state breaks down more (obviously has mental issues).

In the US, where any publicity is goog publicity, this would have been great for someone's career. Well, this is Japan. However, Becky is too popular and worth too much money. She'll be back by Spring. Remember that member of SMAP found naked and drunk in a park next to his Roppongi tower condominium. He's back. She'll be back!

When will mainstream Japanese realize the harm Abe is going to Japan? I am very pessimistic that this move will stir them to action. I'm guessing that there will be no Chinese or Koreans rushing to Japan during the Chinese New Year holiday season. And why do they insist on documentation and completely ignore that oral testimony of the victims, who know better than anyone.
