This whole Olympic fiasco is becoming an embarrassment for Japan. I do hope that the people involved get their act together before the Olympic Committee starts to wish that they gave it to Istanbul.

There is an idea that all of this is just the US educated Chinese trying to win a power struggle with the Japanese educated Chinese. After normalization, thousands of Chinese came to Japan for university education (some were my classmates). And now that decades later they are vying for high level powerful jobs, this is one of the ways that the US educated Chinese try to suppress the Japan educated Chinese. Notice that the ambassadors from China all speak fluent Japanese (unlike other countries), and China's previous Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke fluent Japanese.

This has not stopped Chinese from buying in Shinjuku. You hear Chinese being spoken where every you go here.

The Emperor did make an apology. Didn't they hear the 70th anniversary memorial speech?

Guns are not the problem. Guns and gun violence (murder) are the symptoms of the problem. The deep pervasive problem with the US. Please do not show yourself as a beacon or model for the rest of the world to follow. I prefer Japan just as it is: WITHOUT GUNS. Guns just make it just SOOOOO easy to murder. SOOOOOOO easy. Did I say SOOOOO easy?

A few years into the future, in the last chapter of the history of that then nonexistent country, formerly known as the United States, will be called "Trump Elected President". That is the end. Not too far off. And with his junior high school boy temper tantrums, human existence will end when he sets off all the atom bombs because someone made a remark about his hair.

"the dark side of colonization"? There was no bright side. It was only dark, very dark. King Leopold of Belgium had the arms of Congolese kids cut off if the parents did not enslave themselves in the Belgian mines. You can google pictures if you have the stomach for it.

The picture shows the last seconds of the life of a person. Then she was gone. I wonder, did she feel any pain? Were there seconds enough for her to realize what had just happened? Or just suddenly, gone. gone.

Well, gee, Mr Obama, thank you. Now US, please be sure not to elect Hilary as president. Like Obama, her attitude is that Japan is a little lap dog, and when you say JUMP! it jumps and when you say PLAY DEAD, it plays dead. よろしくね！

Most (or all) of the comments above are westerners talking about LGTB from their "moralistic" view. This has NOTHING to do with the situation in Japan, as I explained above.
gokai_wo_manekuAug. 26, 2015 - 07:54PM JST
It is a little different here in Japan. Japan has never been Christianized, so gays are not "out" because it is considered immoral (it is not), but because in Japan sex was not part of public life. In the not too distant past, everyone got married to a person selected by their family and had children. If you were not at all attracted to your wife or you liked guys, on your "private time", you could run off to an "entertainment area". Remember Prime Minister Uno? His mistress gave a magazine interview like it was a natural thing to do. She complained that he did not give her enough support. Shortly thereafter he was out of office. So it is a matter that differnt desires be recognized and allowed to express themselves. Anyway it has never been evil or against the law, so change will come. We still do not have a well defined sense of "gay lifestyle" like Americans or Europeans seem to have.

Abe is not going to China, but staying here to oversee the remilitarization of Japan. Meanwhile, the economy is again sinking. So much for Abenomics. Actually, this is great news! Abe will be gone soon when the LSP is kicked out of power again.

Sitting in the train I often see "groups" of high school or junior high school students "together", all staring into their mobile phones, not exchanging any words. Is that just on trains? Or all the time? Growing isolation? How about socializing abilities. How about Japan's future. Just curious. Gokai is totally gay and has no interaction with young people, so I don't know.
