There is so much competition for workers these days nobody cares about these issues anymore. Burakumin? Most young people have never heard of this. And nobody cares. I can only say it is too bad that there was a time when people were concerned about these "issues" and I'm sure a lot of talent was lost because of it.

"Historical aspects are overwhelming": only if you want them to be overwhelming.
Posted in: The U.S. and Japan are moving forward as allies, and we are being held back because we cannot get out of the past. Historical aspects are overwhelming the security dimension, and people are wondering whether this is right.

I'm so happy. The US Wall Street 1% is trying to take over the world in a new form of neo-colonialism=imperialism. We don't need another global disaster.

Well, it can't really be such a big thing. None of the Japanese media is featuring this story. Nothing on NHK news or cable. Of course maybe Abe's henchmen are keeping a lit on it (remember how they threatened reporters over Okinawa stories?).

The Japanese media are still not treating this story. There are only short articles hidden away on back pages "International" sections. I guess nobody wants to attract much attention to this, Japan being a US puppet and all, and we can't embarrass Abe.

The case against this guy was spelled out in Japanese weekly magazine like a year ago, not long after the incident. Of course, because they also have articles about how to have intercourse in office stair wells and stuff like that, people don't take their investigative journalism very seriously.

@hworta By "don't really pay US income taxes", you mean even they are legally supposed to, they just don't? The US persons at my firm complain about US income taxes (which US people are legally bound to pay on foriegn income when they live overseas) and now FATCA. So your taxes are being used to spy on cherries. Now what I want to know is whether any Japanese news organization will publish this story, or bow to Abe and not report it.
gokai_wo_manekuAug. 01, 2015 - 07:29AM JST
US people living in Japan and paying all those US taxes: they are using your hard earned money to spy on Japan's trading cherries with US! Who knew!

With the logo and stadium problems, Japan is really embarrassing itself in front of the world.

First Shibuya, now Setagaya. What about Shinjuku? We have Tokyo's biggest gay town here. I hope Shinjuku is not getting behind the times. I guess Nakano will be next. The biggest gay residential area is in Nakano. But my partner and I are not moving from Shinjuku.

Well, I guess it is better to be incarcerated than shot to death by police (US: about 500 people killed by police this year, Japan: 0)

Don't worry! When the real effects of the TPP filter down to the bottom and the majority are impoverished, then there will be a REVOLUTION!! Workers have done it before, and they can do it again!

And from what I have read, now US automakers will be able to sue Japan if Japanese don't buy lots of US automobiles. As I have said, they won't be happy until we pass a law ordering all Japanese to own at least one US car. They put no energy at all into selling their cars here, but just whine and whine.
gokai_wo_manekuJul. 28, 2015 - 08:53PM JST
High wire act. Yes, and I hope they all trip and fall off.
