Why should Cuba hold the alleged "most dangerous criminals" in the world? Did they have any choice in the matter (except a land lease agreement that by the best of legal terms would have ended in 2003)?
SushiSake3
Bang On!
Bringing up the costs is just another Red Herring by the conservative(s). We are forcing terrorists on another country's land. It is not American soil. And unlike some idiot's assertion in the past, where he tried to claim Japan's American bases were sovereign, I guess he could not distinguish embassies from contractual American bases, Guantanamo does not have a Status of Forces agreement. So America does not even have that bs to use as rhetoric. Cuba wants us out. No rent comes out of the U.S. Treasury for the entire Guantanamo base.
I want my country to do the responsible thing and get out of Gitmo and take responsibility for their prisoners of war. Housing terrorists on the soil of another country that does not even want us there and considers our occupation illegal is immoral and unethical.
Tear down that prison, Mr. Obama!

There goes the argument some conservatives make that Obama is continuing Bush's policies with Guantanamo. It just proves they were clearly talking out of their ass like they always do. Well maybe not so clearly but rather a garbled doublespeak.

The U.S. image globally is very important economically. U.S. image is very important strategically. World leaders have said they like working with Obama and he gets a lot done in a short amount of time. As far as I am concerned it is just another case of either sour grapes or jealousy that a liberal agenda is moving forward in spite of conservative efforts to block progress. Our economy was not the only thing at a standstill by the time Obama became president. It would appear the conservatives like to keep things at a standstill.

I just gave my opinion. I posted two comments on this thread. I did not post any comments on other related articles. I hardly think that qualifies me as a troll. You just did not like that I caught you screwing up. You were schooling me on reading the police report and I turned it around on you. You did not properly read my comment.
Like I said I am entitled to my opinion. My opinion is that when you have someone, who has never been previously arrested, well over half a century old, was not doing anything wrong when the police approached him, a cop should be able to walk away without turning the guy into a criminal suspect. If Gates would have been convicted without a suspended sentence he would have become a criminal due to his encounter with this cop investigating a crime that never took place.

Sorry, the cops I know were not in the police report. As far as I know they have not been to Cambridge recently. Learn to read my clearly spelled out opinion next time before applying "facts" that have nothing to do with my opinion.

Helter gets his definition of stupid right out of the Rush Limbaugh dictionary. Stupid - 1.) People who disagree with you; 2.) People who are different than you; 3.) People who do different things than you;
Helter would have intelligence measured differently. IQ tests would ask if you own a gun - bonus 30 point. Another extra point for every time you have been to a firing range.
The professor was coming home from a trip to China; obviously a very long journey. I am going to have to assume he felt hassled in some way. The cop felt the professor was being uncooperative. I feel most people can agree on these assumptions. It is the cops job to deal with situations like this. I know plenty of good cops that would never have let the situation escalate. They could have easily calmed the professor down. And to those who say it is not the cop's job - it sure isn't the cops job to control innocent people inside their own home either. The cop may have had the right to enter the premises if he thought a felony could be taking place but the professor was under very little obligation under the law. There was no need to arrest the professor.
Furthermore to those who say the professor was lucky not to have been tazered. Get over your ego of protecting cops every action because your daughter is a cop. Cops not only have the responsibility of being extremely aggressive when force is needed with criminals but they must learn to be very careful in dealing with innocent people. Before a huge pack get their knickers in a bunch, I will admit that one will often not know the difference immediately and must secure the situation. But one good test would be if a person was perfectly innocent prior to the cops arrival on the scene, never had been in trouble with the law, had lived on this earth for half a century and following the officer's arrival has committed a crime then the officer is clearly not very good at dealing with innocent people who have a long history of obedience to law and order.

I thought sailwind was talking about this article not an article SushiSake3 referenced. My errors were unintentional and I still maintain sailwind intentionally misrepresents and mischaracterizes me. If you scream media bias enough people will not know what the hell you are talking about unless you clearly state what article. I did not use Shannyn's name because I had not verified that she wrote this article. I did not read all the comments because I spend a great deal of time researching facts not others opinions. I would be glad to hold the aggregate of my posts up to the scrutiny of the most careful fact checker if others are willing to do the same.

sailwind took the time to post two comments. Both of them to discredit the writer. You would think someone who could dispute the article would do so instead of giving an ad hominem argument that doesn't wash. The article is a factual representation of events.
The article presents Palin's side and includes her defenders. "Palin posted an entry on Twitter in which she said the “matter is still pending,” a statement echoed by her lawyer." The article included several statements by John Coale in defense of Palin. What defense of Palin was not included?
sailwind compares this article to Rush Limbaugh. Rush is incapable of reporting news. He only has one function and that is to present his high school education based knowledge as as the epitome of the facts that every good conservative should learn.
sailwind cannot attack this article on its merit so he attacks the writer. You know what the real problem he has with this article? Facts. He can't stand the facts it contains.

The poor gal. On Oct. 24, 2008, a complaint contended Palin abused her power by charging the state when her children traveled with her. Palin agreed to reimburse the state about $10,000 for costs associated with 10 trips found to be of questionable state interest.
Isn't this the poor gal who remodeled her Mayoral office at $50,000, without council approval, in the beginning of her political career? Isn't this that poor gal who went on a shopping spree for her $150,000-plus designer wardrobe. You can bet she was pissed when the publicity forced her to give the clothes back at the end of the campaign. You know she would have kept them otherwise. By the way it is still somewhat unclear exactly what "charity" received the Designer Diva Collection. We really need a website that has pictures of this stuff. Then we can keep an eye out for the gal slummin' it in her charity clothes.
Isn't this the gal who had a sport's complex built in Wassila and just forgot to purchase the land darn it? Doh! The Sports Complex was a hugely expensive project for the small town of Wasilla, costing the town an additional $1.3 million in legal fees due to legal land title issues, overlooked by Palin as Mayor, which plunged the town into debt that it’s still attempting to recover from.
If the state Personnel Board rules against her, I still have my doubts, it will be because the evidence was overwhelming that she violated ethics. The state Personnel Board has been in her hip pocket. Sarah Palin abused her power when she fired Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. A commission from the state legislature, with a majority of Republicans, said so. But then the Personnel Board rushed a finding of no violation to help her during the election.

Five minutes of darkness is incredibly long for an eclipse. The viewers will be very lucky. Look for Baily's beads and the the diamond ring. The diamond ring should be especially spectacular since it appears the alignment will be rather precise. Also look for the shadows on the ground during a crescent sun; there will be many crescent shadows. If you look at the ground around trees with a lot of small light "holes" you will see many crescent shadows; if it is breezy they will be "dancing." I have only seen a full lunar eclipse on a science show on television. But I have seen the crescent shadows from trees during a partial eclipse of the sun. It was very cool. I was told ahead of time to look for it.
I am envious.

Good question. Actually the Jews only ruled Israel for a total of about 600 years (many people would arguably say half that) out of the thousands of years of "history" or if you want to me to get tribal on yo ass (just kidding) tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of years in various tribal/nomadic states.
The Babylonian Empire (Babylon the city was in Modern day Iraq) took over Judah, a huge part of Israel around 600 B.C. Jerusalem fell to Nebuchadnezzar about 586 B.C.. The Kingdom of Israel fell much earlier near 740 B.C. – 722 B.C.. Then all you have to do is throw in the Persians, the Macedonians, the Romans, the Muslims, Spain's Crusaders, the Muslims again, squeeze the Ottoman Empire in there and the British perform the grand finale.
However the entire history of the land has been occupied by Palestinians in one shape or form. Somewhere around 1000 B.C. to 700 B.C (Very rough estimation) the Jews limited the occupation of the tribes i.e. Philistines, Canaanites, Canadians, Comedians, etc. to their lowest numbers.
I am not an Anti-Semite. I believe in a return to the 1967 borders. Until Israel does that I don't think they have much of an argument. Look even with the 1967 borders the Palestinians have lost a whole lot of land. How can anyone expect every single one of them to be ok with that? I think it will eventually work. But to blame everything on Palestinians who lost the most, in the century that past, because the christians backed the Jews is ridiculous. That is why I will continue to say that Israel needs to get the hell out of the West Bank at the very minimum. Those who blame the Palestinians would have blamed the Native Americans for starting a war with the Europeans (Americans).
Furthermore I find it hard to accept that Palestine could call Jerusalem anything but a symbolic capital. That doesn't mean I want to see them removed; I consider them immigrants from Palestine. They have a long history of peaceful coexistence. I know the dumbbells who have no real interest in the truth, or knowledge of recent history, will try to deny that but they have lived in Jerusalem a very long time. So what I was saying is that basically Jerusalem should belong to the Jews and they should make symbolic gestures but not be forced to allow Palestine to set up government agencies in Jerusalem except advocacy and cooperation councils under the constructs of Israeli law. I solved the "right to return" issue years ago. The agreement would state that Palestinians have the right to return to their homeland. However, Israel would still be sovereign so they would completely control immigration. That means they would initially completely close immigration until they are satisfied with the peace. Both the, Jerusalem, and "right of return" issues are simply face saving measures for the Palestinians but I cannot possibly see how they are going to get any more anyway. I was chatting on line just after the mid 1990's with both Israelis and Palestinians and nobody here could possibly believe how much they said they liked each other. They kept saying that all the conflict was with their governments and not the people. Call me a liar indeed. But I was interested so I talked to many on both sides for months. I know it is no longer like that. That is a damn shame; a tragedy. I don't expect many people to believe me. I can only offer that some will because they have seen how I dig into things. I can be ferocious. I was so curious to learn the truth back then that I spent a lot of time seeking it. Don't get me wrong I have no hope of seeing relations repaired in my lifetime. I guess the governments that wanted conflict won and now probably most of those same people hate each other. I do want them to sign a peace agreement. Those who expect the conflict to end or choose to condemn the peace to failure due to continued conflicts, even with a signed peace agreement, have no historical reference to world events, that go back to long before history began. A patience will be needed that this world has never known. The UN must be involved heavily with troops and both sides must be pushed into reprimanding their own who will try many ways to end the peace. Peace can only be accomplished if both sides adhere to a pledge of extreme patience and a stalwart commitment.
To those of you who refuse to believe that there can be peace, across the 1967 established borders, between Israel and Palestine I have no doubt you would have refused to believe there could be peace between Israel and Egypt before there was.

The good news for realist is that he explained the problem perfectly. I don't know the answer to this dilema. I know jerk Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is just inciting conflict; but that is what he wants. He did it before as Prime Minister. The two nations were doing pretty well in relative terms and then came Benny and the Jets.

I agree. He really stirred things up the first time he was Prime Minister. There was a vastly, greater, harmonious relationship before he spread fear and hate so many years ago from the present. Fortunately he is simply not allowed to get away with it now. He is too afraid to fight about the West Bank for fear of his own isolation. But that does not stop him from his old ways of being an instigator. However I don't agree that Israel is a nasty little country. I doubt many Israelis want all the Palestinians or any other Arabs out of Jerusalem.
My sole desire is for peace. I must admit that I would love to see those who disavow any decency in Arabs and Palestinians to eat their hat (that would be the nice way of putting what they should eat). I do however see problems with both sides. It is a momentous task to achieve peace but it is by no means impossible.
Shalom! Netanyahu; you can't get it until you got it.

Concerning "sailwind at 03:37 PM JST - 20th July"
Funny thing is that this allowed sailwind to "rest his case" without presenting one fact. It allowed sailwind to "rest his case" without addressing one of the facts I presented. Maybe sailwind has no idea what the difference between editorials and facts are. If you don't want to call it an editorial because it is not by an editor, I don't know Glenn Greenwald, so it may in fact be an op ed piece.
From above:
I once saw a 21 yr. old imprisoned since he was a 14 yr old kid that had been released from Gitmo. He said he had been treated badly. He also said he wanted to live in the U.S. one day. If someone has access to the records you will find what I am saying to be true. "The worst of the worst," give me a break. The Bush administration is responsible for imprisoning this mere boy. Tell me when again did Obama continue Bush's policy and throw boys in a "worst of the worst" prison?
So sailwind did just as I said he would.
/
Also Saiwind will not be providing any quotes from me saying the things he said I said. Namely "It is pretty obvious you [goodDonkey] approve of Obama holding people without charges, no hope of trial and just left to rot in legal limbo" and "I'm just curious as to why your [you're] all of the sudden cool with that when you never were before."
I guess we all know why it is he won't be providing those quotes. He won't be providing them because they don't exist. He says those things because he is a ......well you guys know and I am not allowed to say.

I mentioned Rafsanjani a long time ago and said he was the key. He is scheduled, until 2016, to be head of the council that has the power to hire and fire the highest Ayatollah who is considered the leader. Let's just hope he can remain alive. The hardliners already arrested his daughter and held her a couple or three days. He was silent for awhile after that. Rafsanjani has a lot of support within Iran's top leadership. But it looks like it is possible that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei may not play fair and use the Revolutionary guard to restrain the Pragmatic Conservatives, of which Rafsanjani is a member.
Who would have thought Iran would go green?
Now I know Rafsanjani is nothing like an ideal leader but the liberalization process needs to begin somewhere. He has expressed his willingness to have a better dialog with America and Israel. This is nothing new for him and the Pragmatic Conservatives. He is interested in relaxing laws for women and many other laws. I have never found him saying that Iran should give up its status as a theocracy. But let's face it President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s power is stalled right now and that is a good thing.
