“A 22-year-old student in San Diego says she has received bids of up to $3.7 million for her virginity,” Yes but then finding a virgin in San Diego is probably really hard and the rarer a commodity is the higher the price.

“I'm also wondering why New Zealand doesn't have an image like Bangkok as the sex center of the world.”

This might have something to do with what Nzealand women look like, or more to the point don’t look like.

As for the girl selling her virginity, I have never paid for sex, new or second hand, so the idea of anybody paying out this kind of money for an untested and therefore inexperienced model leaves me thinking for people are simply too stupid to be allowed access to their own bank accounts.

As for all this idiocy that says Japan needs to come to terns with its past so that it can move on. What a stupid this to say, they are not some sick person being treated by a psychologist. It is a country that has moved into the 21st. century very well thank you. It is China that has not “moved on”, they still live in the past or to be more exact use the past to manipulate the gullible. This holier than thou attitude of the Japan bashers here who make believe that they only are only critical of Japan for Japans own good disgusts me. Try sitting in your apartment in China writing about China and it’s government and people the way you do here about Japan, what do you imagine would happen? Grow up and see China for what it is, what it still is.

Various shades of the same colour light could have made this an interesting place to visit, however making it look like an accident at disney just makes it look cheap. And I am sure the photographer could have found far better shots than this.

Simple, the US can always introduce quality controls on any imports, China would then have million of unemployed within weeks. Everything they produce is tenth rate so they couldn’t meet the test.

I’m not sure this is as simple as it looks, a death sentences might just be better than a life sentence in an Afghan prison. Given the choice I would go for the death sentence. One other point would be to ask why it is that Taliban murderers don’t get death sentences?

It’s too easy for Clinton and others to hide behind all the good that has come out of the US. But that was never the issue. Only a fool could have missed the heart-felt generosity that many Americans have shown. For that we can all only feel respect toward the people of the US and it is something that any American can feel proud of. But what we saw was America ineffectually swamp the country and cherry pick who would be allowed to help, they took over not in a pragmatic way but out of self-interest. No right thinking person was critical of the aid and help the US gave; they were critical of how that aid and help was given and the treatment given to other aid givers. If the US had been successful there might now be some argument for it, but they were not.

dontknockit You seem to wish to miss the point, the burqua or face covering is the issue here, but is in fact a token, a beginning. Little steps being taken to retain European culture while blocking what most find repugnant. Most countries in Europe have developed a fear of going against anything Islamic, the religion has somehow become precious and protected at the detriment of the indigenous population, taking even a small stand is to be welcomed. Or did you really believe that this is an isolated issue?

How come this privately owned American aircraft got permission to land at Port-au-Prince when a French aircraft with an operating theatre and doctors got refused?

It's good to give, but not when you are expecting something in return.

"Gosh I hope "medical supplies" does not include scientology pamphlets."

I would have little hope of that.

There was a time, a long time ago, when I really did care about things like tolerance and understanding. Another person’s religion, political ideology or even simply their nationality or colour was something that needed to be defended. I have grown old and tired since then, and I have become sick of seeing good people taken for a ride by shallow, nasty, dishonest people who believe they have some special right to force others to accept their twisted thinking. The west has given and given (and given in to) to the Muslims while getting not the least trace of reciprocation. This is a religion that has no flexibility with in itself and demands rather than asks that it be accepted in none Islamic countries. Its practitioners see no contradiction in demanding that it be given rights in the west while dogmatically blocking any similar rights for none Muslims in Islamic countries. When you fight for the freedoms of others you should not also be fighting for the loss of your own freedoms in the process, but with Islam that is what the west is doing. Some European countries, France in this case, seem to be trying to make a stand against the undermining influence of Islam in western culture. It is a small and almost meaningless step in itself, though it does highlight the hypocrisy of the political left which while defending female equality sees nothing contradictory in also defending the Muslim subjugacation of women. Nonsensical arguments about wearing wigs and surgical masks and defending a Muslim woman’s “right” to be hidden do little to bring the world into the 21st century. When Muslims give as much as they ask for (not demand) then and only then can we be expected to meet them half way. Until then they should expect no special rights in the west. When you live in my house you live by my rules, or are we to have so little self respect that we are to give up being who we are solely to accommodate others who will never offer a similar accommodation?

If there was no such place as Israel it would need to be invented, because whatever you think of Israel the Arabs are at war with the West and they will always find an excuse, Israel is a good stick to beat the West with, but it is only the most convenient one today, they have so many others.

cleo “What monster? I see no monster. I don't see any dog looking stupid. I see a dog who seems to have an owner with atrocious taste and is fed up with all the primping and preening, but that's not the same thing at all.”

Now you are being over protective to the point of being pedantic, you know perfectly well that my judgement is of the owner not the dog. If I were given a dog like this I would give it a bath and then let it play in the garden everyday until it’s coat grew back and it looked like, and behaved like a real dog, because what it’s current owner has turned it into is not a dog. Dogs have spirit, charm and a special madness that would make anybody fall in love with them, but can you honestly say that for the creature we are seeing in the above photo. I think it needs to be freed to live a normal life.

I find it really very interesting how so many seem to forget that it has been Israel that has been attacked by Arab Muslims far more often that Israel have attacked. This is not to say that Israel’s hands are clean, when they have had to fight they have done and they have not always been politically correct in how they went about it. But then they know their enemy far better than anybody else, they know what the outcome of losing to the Arabs would be. The Arabs claim that Israel mistreats their people, and if you fall for the propaganda coming out of Gaza you would believe this. The same set of half-truth half lie is being pushed again here. Israel is saying that they will keep these lands and give others in exchange, basically redrawing the frontiers in such a way that Israel can defend itself from the predictable future attacks. The Palestinians now believe they have world opinion on their side so they don’t have to agree to anything and they will be as intransigent as only an Arab can be. Little is anything said by an Israeli will be acceptable so why shouldn’t Netanyahu say what he thinks? After all he’s damned whatever he says, or doesn’t say. The Palestinians have 60 years of receiving aid from the world and they have always turned that aid into weapons. What would their lands be like today if that money had been used to actually help their own people? You cannot say that the land is no good because the Israelis farmed that same land successfully. If it is no good today it might just be because the Palestinians would rather play the role of puppets for the rest of the Arabs. Fools that are paid to fight the terrible Jew while the others just talk about how cruel the Israelis are to the Palestinians. Israel exists so think very carefully about what the alternative would be, do you really believe the Arabs would treat the Jews as well as the Jews have treated them? What Germany did would be nothing by comparison. We have all seen how the religion of peace treats its own people and how it treats prisoners, can you imagine that on a country wide scale? Be careful what you wish, saying sorry I didn’t think they would do that will be a bit late for the people of Israel.

There is nothing wrong with the Poodle as a little pet dog for people who want a little pet dog. They are quite nice little animals, but not when some idiot starts cutting their coats to make them look like this. A Poodle in its natural coat is really quite sweet and as a rule they are fun dogs to have around the house, affectionate and playful, not at all as this monster above would suggest. I hate it when people mess around with perfectly good dogs making them look this stupid, I can only assume that these dogs have no concept of what they look like or there would a rash of dog suicides around the world. Cats would never tolerate this level of mistreatment, well mine wouldn’t, they would fight tooth and claw for their dignity.

Thank you to Cleo, Timorborder and FightingViking for all the good advice, sadly advice that seems always to be needed.

A country that was not at war and not involved in the midst of a revolution had 7000 peace keepers before the earthquake. That alone should warn us all to be careful how we judge what we think is or should be happening now.

A question for those that have military backgrounds, in a war situation can’t the military clear an emergency airstrip quite quickly? I’m not sure but wouldn’t the current situation justify such a thing? That is a honest question, not a dig at anybody.

I opened on this with criticism of the way the US was selecting which flights were being allowed to land and which not. I did not and have not been critical of the US sending in aid and men. It would be total stupidity to the US was wrong in doing so, equally it would be total stupidity to reason that they are the only ones sending in help. They are not, but if you were to check the US media you would see that the rest of the world gets next to no mention of the work they are actually doing on the ground and this is especially true of countries that the US are not on friendly terms. Teams from all over the world have been digging in the ruins for days getting their hands very dirty. Are the US in there helping? Yes, without a doubt and only a fool could fail to respect them for the work they are doing. But that does not negate the political monster that is working out Washington manipulating the situation. Do I respect the American soldier that is going to have to face the out of control mobs on the streets, very much so, the aid workers digging out the dead, yes without question, the doctors, nurses and all the other personal that will be working on the ground all deserve out respect and our thanks for the horrible job that they are doing and will need to do for many weeks to come. These feelings are being expressed solely towards the Americans but to all the PEOPLE working to save lives. But while that airport is being run to suit the people in Washington I will not change a word I originally wrote.

It would seem that the US is only letting in what they want in, the rest of the world is getting a low priority by comparison. Sounds a lot like the US is trying to get as much propaganda out of this as they can. And when all this is eventually over all the first weeks’ photos will be of US everything. There would seem to be a profit in anything if you only look hard enough.
