When I was a teenager in the UK this was always the excuse given to the police when anybody was caught in possession of that brown/black lumpy stuff they all used to smoke, not that I ever did such a thing you understand. Where did you buy this, the police would ask & the answer was always a black guy they didn’t know. End of police interview. Can’t say I either liked this of ever really approved, but it was pragmatic. Looks like a new cover story will have to thought up so as to avoid accusations of racism.

I think that we all know by now that “an accident” is never just that, it is usually a set of circumstances any single one of which wouldn’t be catastrophic in it self but when added together are just that. What Fadamor makes sense when coupled with something else I read earlier today about a lightening strike being able to temporarily knock out the electronics including both communications & radar which would have left the pilot blind as to just what he was flying into. Automatic back ups plus onboard manual repairs would have been possible, but not if the aircraft flew straight into the middle of a monster storm, which that part of the Atlantic is know for. Two Lufthansa flights went through the same storm, one half an hour before & one an hour later, but for some reason Lufthansa are being extremely coy & are refusing to say what their pilots reported.

All large aircraft (& military aircraft) are fitted with a beacon that sends out an identity code so finding the aircraft isn’t going to be the problem, savaging it however will be, that is a very deep part of the Atlantic to have gone down in. As for any ideas about a safe “landing” that far out from land. No way.

At the moment all is just speculation but it would be the miracle of all miracles if anybody survived. What a horrible way to die & what an even more horrible way to lose someone you love. My thoughts go to those left behind.

True, I missed that. It is strange.

Maybe she just thinks about it five times a day, but having nothing else in her head that might well be orgasmic for her.

They have been using these devices in Europe for a few years now, normally placed outside late night shops, which is a little odd given that most customers of late night shops are the young & it is designed to unsettle the young, NOT just teenagers. And maybe being 26 feels old to a 26 year old, but it is not old. When I first read about these things I was tempted to get the designs & see how great a range of people could be “unsettled” with a little adjustment here & there. I abandoned the idea because I have cats as do some of the neighbours I thought about unsettling & I have no desire to upset innocent animals. Which brings me to another point nobody seems too concerned about. There are some little critters in the park at night that do have a perfect right to be there & they are not vandalising the place. These devices may move the idiots away & may even get them to go home & annoy their parents, but where do the poor animals go?

Maybe what is really needed is a curfew for all minors with a standing fine imposed on the parents if a “child” is found out the street after a set time without an acceptable guardian. At least this way the animals don’t need to suffer horrible noises.

Are you sure we are talking about the same thing? If we are then we will have to meet up sometime so that I can give you the rest of the birds & bees tale your parents left out.

“That guy could have just eloped with the girl, kept his winky and been on his honeymoon using it as god intended”

I agree with you, but, if it took this fool two years to finally come to the wrong choice then I am not altogether sure it was the wrong choice. As Joebigs says, “This is called, "thinning the herd" this guy will hopefully not reproduce and pass around his genes.....” And that has got to be the right thing to have happen. And has anybody noticed that there are only 9 posts so far? If this had been a Japanese man we would be well into the hundreds by now.

The democratic land of the free & land of the brave, a land where a woman’s choice to safely terminate a pregnancy is being curtailed by religious lunatics. This lunatic was free to believe in his chosen religion & was also free to buy a gun, but he didn’t believe women should have the freedom to make their own choices, he believe that Dr. Tiller had a freedom to believe what he was doing was right. I just wish that Americans could stand outside their defensive positions for once & see their country as we do. The saviours of the world come from a land that is out of control. Ironic to say the least.

The rest of the world would like to see some change from Muslims. But as that world famous philosopher Michael Jagger once said, we can’t all get what we want. I suspect the new saviour is going to disappoint everybody on this one. But then that is what many of the Muslims want.

“Pray remind me which countries North Korea has invaded under the current dictator?”

It’s obvious where you want this to go & although I am no lover of the US you are way too far away from reality with your reasoning, or lack of it. Let’s try another comparison that might give a clearer picture, for you. How many people have died because of US & NK policy over that same period? The US may have been involved in wars that are disputed & as such may be seen as having caused many deaths, but NK have, without being at war with anybody, caused far more deaths. Perhaps that could be seen as a better indicator of what is & what isn’t a good country.

Being blind may increase ones sensitivity, & in some cases may make extremely good pianist. However it is not a prerequisite for human sensitivity, as Bonyn shows, blindness comes in many forms & sensitivity can be missing in altogether in the sighted. By the way, there is a “little” difference between a pianist playing Schumann’s Piano Quintet & the also excellent though very different music played by Ray Charles, Ronnie Milsap, Stevie Wonder.

I think it’s wrong to chastise other posters for wanting a war, they don’t, but they are trying to see where this mess the dear leader has created is going to go. I really don’t think that a conventional war with NK is winnable in the normal sense, its military could be destroyed & given that they have no combat experience I can’t see them lasting very long as an integrated army. That isn’t to say that they would stop fighting, I suspect that they are already trained to fall back & become a guerrilla army. And a very well indoctrinated guerrilla force would be a monster to fight against while on it’s own territory. An indoctrinated populace would support its guerrilla army against the “invaders”.

All of that is to reason that an attack of NK would be a mistake, but if no choice were given because the North attacks the South this idea of America taking 90days to get there is a nonsense. It might take 90 days before substantial numbers of troops arrived, but the air force could be there in hours & the navy within a few days, maybe less. As for this massive artillery attack on Seoul that seems to worry so many, do you really imagine the US air force & the South Korean air force & artillery are just going to let that happen? And don’t for a moment imagine that “article 9” would last for more than a day or two. American & South Korean pressure & Japan’s own self interest would have that changed faster than you could believe.

North Korea is not a sissy fit child & it is wrong to see it that way, it is a very dangerous monster that could do horrendous damage to South Korea & Japan. It has a standing army of one million but can put up seven million men (& women) under arms & even if they are a parade army with no experience they can still kill a lot of people before they are forced to back off. They may have no chance of “winning” a war, but that in itself doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t start one & it doesn’t mean that anybody can take their actions as being something to not be worried about. A lot of people would be dead by the time this army backed off.

And what happens this time when they back off? Will China again step in to stop NK from being taken over? Will the allied forces again settle down to another 60 year state of doing nothing but sending in food & fuel?

It would also be a good idea to stop thinking of this as being SK, America & Japan against NK, there is Australia, New Zealand & Canada, & maybe others that could get to SK within that 90 day period. Let us all just hope that NK see this picture as being as complicated as it is & not as some posters here believe it to be.

And, yes, the key really is China. With out China stating its position in advance nobody can be sure where any of this madness might lead. And who in their right mind would ever trust China?

Agree with you. My wife & I had a long 3 minute conversation about TV & then removed the antenna & all the wiring that went with it. Intelligence on TV? No where I have ever lived has ever managed it. And without the box I have some much more time in my life, I even have time to waste writing on JT, which just goes to show how much time we waste in front of the box.

In some countries in Europe you can get things like this that are not in fact cars, they are classed as motor bikes & do not require a licence to drive. I really wouldn’t like to be in such a thing in a traffic jam between buses. Could you imagine how much of this thing would be left after even a little crash?

Maybe you are all forgetting something here. If NK starts (sorry re-starts) the war it will be as it was a UN war. Not an American one. So, where do the troops come from, not Japan of course, but how about Australia, Britain (if they have any & remember they could get away with introducing the draft) Canada, New Zealand. Holland, Sweden, maybe even South Africa & India. Now that would be a fun mix wouldn’t it?

But you should also keep in mind that with both regular soldiers & reserves NK can put 7 million men under arms, granted they have absolutely no experience of fighting a war & on that level might no be very good soldiers, but they will be the nearest thing we have ever seen to organic robots willing to die for the dear leader. Yes they would eventually lose, but the costs in human life would be outrageous. There would be no way of occupying that country after that with a resentful indoctrinated population. No, total blockade of the country that turns the populous against the leadership is the only answer & that in the process would force China to act.

    “Sprouting Inner,”

Would “inner growth” not been a slightly better way of translating this? Then again given that we are talking about cabbage maybe not.

Having been a “designer” for nearly 40 years all I can say that I hate, with a passion, design students, I even hated them when I was one. They are an embarrassment to everybody except themselves.

“How much of a military threat is North Korea to Japan?” The question is limiting in that it is in the present tense & that is not how NK should be seen. The path that they have taken to get where they are today means they must be seen as being a threat to Japan & waiting to do something about them only means that many more lives stand to be lost. Will they be a military threat to Japan at some time in the future if they continue as they are doing? And the answer is simply yes. So, rather than wait until they are capable of causing many more deaths in the region (not just Japan) deal with it now.
