I think if you look more closely you will find that Soldave was being sarcastic.

“tell us why the Japanese parent feels that a child of mixed race should not understand both aspects of their culture? Why should japanese culture takes precedence over the foreign parents culture?”

But I will answer you anyway. Because they are Japanese. And there is never going to be any argument you can come up with that will ever get the better of that. The very fact that you might try means that you (we) lose.

This is a dog. And I class this treatment as abuse.

This poor little dog is probably happy about the sunglasses as it helps to hide its identity from other dogs. If the owner wants to play with dolls there are plenty of real dolls why make an animal suffer like this.

“these US Officials are tooooooooo transparent.”

This might, in it self be true, but trust me they would not be alone in being transparent.

“The rich from SK will move in and quickly take over/advantage.”

I think that TokyoHustla’s comment gets a bit closer to how South Korea sees this. A reunified Korea would bankrupt South Korea, there would be no SK rich. We saw this happen with East & West Germany & East Germany was no where near as backward & needy as NK is. I can believe the average SK man in the street wanting reunification but I can’t bring myself to believe that either government or big business want it. No matter how much of a show they might put on. If anything keeping Korea as two independent countries makes better sense. It keeps SK viable & provides the buffer zone China wants. That is not to say that NK should stay as it is, but any change there should come from Chinese pressure & nowhere else.

So the real question isn’t what to do about NK but what to do about China. There really isn’t all that much more pressure that could be out on NK anyway. So, how to pressure China into doing something about NK? Simple really, blockade NK so that they only have China to help them keep going. China isn’t going to sit back & feed NK, the drain on China would be intolerable & they, unlike the west would do something to bring about change. The only rough card in the pack would be Russia. A stand off between China & Russia might seem acceptable short term but it could lead to so much more. They are both too unpredictable.

However it goes, after yesterdays big bang now is the time that something must be done. It’s long overdue & it is not going to get better by waiting.

“I agree that it needs to be regulated a lot more. But let's take the gun out of this picture. What's to say that this man doesn't grab a knife and start stabbing his ex wife?”

I know that I am not talking to a gun nut when I am talking to you, but you are closing you mind to the obvious. This scenario of a man going back to his car, getting a gun & then going back into a party to shoot people. Anybody coming near him gets shot, so no one is going to come near him & he gets a lot more time to shoot people. Now run that same scenario with a knife. At worst he will kill one & hurt another before somebody does something about him. So take the gun out of the picture & yes he might get his wife (if she is his wife) but he is going to have to incredibly “good” with a knife to kill two people & injure two more. That is how the rest of the world is looking at this & though we may make a few snide remarks about the US along the way that is mostly because we are all a little tired of being told there is no problem in the US when there obviously is. If the Americans want to be patriotic then fine, but don’t be blinded by patriotism to the point that you can’t see when something is wrong. SushiSake3, Building a wall around Texas would make a lot of Americans happy too, so I think I will go with that.

I like the idea but can we find someplace other than Sweden? I like Sweden in a do nothing sort of way. You have a contagious imagination though & I am still giggling at the idea. I should also apologise to the many, many Americans that are not gun crazies. I do actually find it sad that a whole country can be held up to ridicule by one section of it’s population, all be a too large section. What I find incredibly difficult to come to terms with is that America is a country that tries so hard to control the harmful things in society like smoking, car exhaust, & any number of other social “risks”, yet does nothing to stop nutters getting their hands on guns. I think a man in a bar with a gun in his pocket is a dam sight more dangerous than the same man smoking without the gun.

There is a savagery in some people that seems to surface whenever cats, especially wild cats, are mentioned. Shooting them is seen as just fine, putting nails out so as to cripple them is fine too. Nobody is asking anybody to actually like cats, but try to remember that in a civilised world we don’t go out killing without a very good reason & foot prints on the bonnet of your car doesn’t constitute a good reason for killing or crippling an animal. Maybe if people who want the wild cat population reduced gave money to groups like JCN they might then be able to provide you with what you want. Maybe the fact that JT published this story could be taken as an hint. I am not going to be so subtle, GIVE JCN MONEY. And in the mean time try to remember that we, the human race brought about this cat problem by making wild cats domesticated cats & then not looking after them. Maybe we should adopt this shoot them on sight principle on the homeless people too. They are even more of a nuisance aren’t they?

And before anybody asks, yes I do give money to help stray animals.

“as usual the only ones that want to import weapons are the ones that want to use them on weaker people.”

That’s not strictly true, some countries actually want to use then against the US & the US can’t be seen as a “weaker people.” I do agree about not being able to think of any country that is a safe country to sell to, if the truth be told they would all be black listed. What a wonderful world we live in………

Maybe having seen the “not very good” workmanship of the products that they buy Japan just thought they could do better & to offset the cost of doing so decided to sell what they are going to make. Sounds like a good idea to me, added to which why should Japan be held to a higher standard than any (ANY) other country?

Is this a good job? No, but it is a job & that is about all this girl really wanted. She’s 22 & wants to experience life in another country while she is still young. She also wanted to get away from the close knit nature of the Spanish family & live on her own & it is in that sense that she believes she will grow up. She can’t teach either English or Spanish because she probably can’t speck either language well enough. (She is Spanish but comes from Barcelona so speaks Catalan as her first language).

But how have our resident experts on all (negative) things Japan seen this? She’s almost been accused of being lesbian because she likes the other maids & isn’t interested in the male customers. It is believed she will regret the error of her miss-spent youth when she is 40. We have had a complete analysis of Maid café idea as being a sexual fantasy constructed by the very people that live in this fantasy with the added indulgence of the young girls that pretend to be even younger than they are.

She is a gap year student learning the language doing a job like thousands of others around the world. Maybe she doesn’t have parents that can afford to pay for their daughter to do this so she needs to work. She is doing a safe job & having fun hurting no one. I am sure her friends in Barcelona are seriously jealous. Good for her.

I just wonder how much of this money will end up being used to buy office space & houses in London?

Aid money into Pakistan? About 30% will go to those that it is intended for & the rich will be a little richer. So much for the Muslim brotherhood.

Saudi Arabia give money? No way, they might buy their own peace, but they never GIVE money away.

I don’t care about the death sentence one way or the other, but in this case I want a real life sentence in a very small cell. I want him to spend every day remembering why he is there. Death is too quick.

“Fukushima claimed they hadn’t returned his nails he cut while in prison.”

Why are you all trying to find covert reasons for him starting this fight? It clearly states that the guards had stolen his nail clippings. Are you seriously asking that this man who has served his time be sent out into the busy modern world of Japan without his nail clippings? Don’t you think that a year in prison was punishment enough? Some of you can be so hard, try to have a little heart sometimes.

Sarge at 09:19 AM JST - 21st May “he was the bold, dashing starship captain”

I hate to break this to you, since we are both now grown ups, but there are still no such things as “star ships” & how can a man with a baby beer belly be called dashing? “Bold” can also be seen as being a bit thick. Captain James T Kirk was so funny & I love him for that. But turning him into a mythical hero? That is even funnier.

Did you look to see who wrote this story?

    “By Tech Sgt Rey Ramon”

I sort of agree with what you wrote, but I still think the airforce guy did a good job because as much as I want to believe that the pilots would have done something I also believe that it’s never a good idea to wait for the good guys to do the right thing, just in case they don’t.
