Cosplay is image without substance and a lot of the Japanese girls seem to have got that down fine, these two really don’t seem to know what it is they are trying to be. Wearing granny’s pink cardigan just doesn’t make it. So, those that have a desire for the pink one please do remove her as soon as possible, she really is bringing the tone of the place down. As for it being a stupid thing to be doing, so what! I can of many worse things they could be getting into.

A very well reasoned post but nothing at all to do with what I wrote, so why is my name at the beginning of it? I do in fact agree with most everything you wrote, however I still have no idea what makes any foreigner believe they have the right to say this man should not be doing what he is doing in his own country and we can hardly ask for free speech for the film while at the same time saying that we don’t want this man doing what he is doing. And like it or not (and I think we agree not) he is Japanese and therefore a member of the Japanese people. I understand why you attacked me but really you put thoughts behind my post that are simply not there.

Is there any real logic to a bunch of foreigners criticising a Japanese for defending the image of his own country? Don’t we all have the right to do that? It doesn’t matter how he goes about it he is in his own country doing what he is entitled to do.

If it is a choice between any one of these girls and the likes of Lady Gaga who would you want to take home to meet mother? And as for who looks like a prostitute think along the same lines. For the years these girls are in MM they are micromanaged to the point that they very probably don’t have sex lives so all the pervs will have to just go on dreaming.

“four Japanese luxury Seiko watches”
“four Japanese digital cameras”
Yes, good sales for these two shops, but in three or four months exact copies of these products (and probably many others) are going to be on sale all over Europe for a fraction of the original out lay. Cheap Chinese junk is destroying the home economies of every country they are allowed to sell in.

The only thing the that separates an Afghan civilian from a Taliban is the gun he does or doesn’t carry. “Courageous Restraint” wasn’t a McChrystal concept it originates with Petraeus and have any of you seen just how little combat experience Petraeus has? He’s not a soldier he’s a politician in uniform. I feel sorry for the grunt at the front.

I think you should read the above again, it might say that “BP won’t let members talk to several employees” but then it goes on to say that “BP “has not objected to providing access to any of the specific BP employees that the committee has requested, and we continue to cooperate with the committee.”
Now if you are an American you can only believe that BP is lying, if your not American you might ask what the hell Bart Stupak is talking about and why. As for Vidrine, it really does sound as though he is making his own moves. I get the impression that somebody is stirring up trouble here and as yet we don’t know why, this is not all there is to this. I would wait before you make a judgement on this. By the way, normally we are told both what party and what state a representative comes from, in this case not. Where does Stupak represent?

“U.S. Whaling Commissioner Monica Medina informed the 88 member nations of the whaling commission of the report and urged the commission to conduct further research.”
Medina may want to protect the whales and bring an end to the hunting of whales, but she at least had the good sense not to take sides in the research issue and called for more research. The only research we have seen is being done by two groups that each have their own agendas and as such must both be read with care and allowance made for their secondary motives. That isn’t to say that either cannot be trusted or that either is lying. That is to say we have very good reasons for wanting and needing independent research.

“In the family travel complaint, also investigated by Petumenos, Palin agreed to reimburse the state about $8,000 for costs associated with nine trips taken by her children.”
So, let me see if I have got this right. Under US law if I “use” my employers money without his consent to buy a house and then get found out all I have to do is pay the money back and no crime will have been committed? What a very understanding legal system. I think I might go and live there for a while.

“This is why this whole thing stinks of backroom factionalism. Rudd doesn't have the factional backing, and the first sign of a drop in his popularity and the knives were planted firmly in his back. I'm starting to seriously think that I don't want a puppet of these factions (Gillard) to be PM for another 3 years.”
So at the next election does she have a chance of staying in power? Or what are the odds on Rudd trying a come back? 3 years is a long time and he does seem to have made some of the voters happy.
Also thanks for you help on this, in a way I was a little surprised at myself for just how little I know about what is happening in Australia. It’s your own fault though, you are all such quiet and retiring souls (ha ha). Thanks.

Thanks. I had more of a feeling that there might a parallel with something like the Major arrangement rather than anything in detail, as said I am not that well up on Australian politics. She seemed to slide so easy and yet not have what might be termed the heavies at her back. Like a stop gap to keep the party happy until it was time to get the real man in place without any of the dirt having stuck to him. Thanks for the help on this one.

Oh look! An otaku parade. Not often you get to see some of these strange souls.
What happens when somebody simply wants a phone for making and receiving phone calls?
Maybe there is an opening in the market here, a phone that only makes and receives phone calls. Given its lack of mad and pointless extras it could be wafer thin, though not much smaller than they are now, we would still have to “dial” numbers and put the thing to the ear. Can you imagine how cheap they would be? Ah well, that thought just killed that idea, cheap doesn’t sell does it?

"license plate recognition system"
If you have travelled in the UK anytime over the last ten years you will know that these systems really are incredible. They not only recognise the number plate but they also send out the fines too. No human involvement. Not sure how this is going to work with drug smugglers though. Maybe they can automatically target the drones, again, no human involvement. God help Beelzebub’s “restaurant dish washers, lettuce pickers”.

What are the chances she’s been put in to take the fall at the next election? The Brits did this with John Major and it went horribly wrong for them when he won. Who is next in line in the Labour party that doesn’t want to be seen as being one of the Rudd axe men? I’m not that well up on Australian politics but it is usual to put a deposable face in place and then bring out the real new leader when the party is closer to the election. I have to agree though that it wasn’t the best way for Australia to get it’s first female PM.

Iran knows that Israel is never going to allow that ship to enter Gaza, they have set up an other no win situation for Israel. There will be no weapons on that ship because Iran are crazy, not stupid. But if that ship is allowed to pass to Gaza they will have opened a door that cannot be closed again and then the weapons can be imported, to help Sabi’s poor Palestinians.
You might be anti Israeli, but do you really see an Iranian base in Gaza helping to bring peace to the Middle East? The poor Palestinians might be a lot poorer after this ever so generous help that Iran is so kindly sending. Maybe the pro Palestinians are now getting a little more than they wished for. In the case of some I just wonder how many dead Israelis you were wishing for. Or do Israeli dead not matter as much as Palestinian dead?

“Have you seen any of the data on the noise these things make?”
Yes I have, I forget what it was but I was really surprised, mind blowing isn’t it?
“Maybe you should actually WATCH a game before commenting.”
I have little option but to watch, this religious rite has taken over the world and for me the only saving grace has been the vuvuzelas, they really have rubbed so many up the wrong way and in the process shown just how ridiculous this whole thing as become. I am sorry if you are one of those that gets passionate about sport, but for me it is a game and of very little importance yet there is near enough no way of avoiding it. All I see is an incredible amount of money and hype and a great many people being gullibly sucked into that. Forgive me for finding that ridiculous and feeling a need to have a little fun with it.

“While it's probably a bit dodgy for a US citizen to try to possess a J passport (the US would probably grass you up) the UK actually operates a scheme specifically designed to sidestep restrictions imposed by countries like Japan.”
Exactly my point, though I was being deliberately vague about the details. The UK does operate dual nationality even when the other country does not. So, as long as you don’t make a fuss they wont. As far as the UK goes you can hold a second passport along with your UK passport, you would still be British to the British, though in this case the Japanese (who know perfect well that this happens) would see you as being solely Japanese. The Japanese will turn a blind eye to this so long as you don’t rub their nose in it, they don’t want to know so don’t tell them. As far as voting goes I have never truly lived anywhere long enough to feel that I have a right to vote because I don’t believe it is simply a matter of being a citizen. As far as I am concerned you need to be a part of the country and know it the way only someone brought up in that country could know it. Simply holding a passport doesn’t do for me.

I think that many here are getting themselves tied up in the red tape of their own making. Take Japanese citizenship and them if you want your old citizenship back simply walk into your old embassy and get a new passport. Sorry to take the drama out of your tales but it does work. And no you do not have to give up your Japanese citizenship, so long as you keep your mouth shut about it. Big brother really isn’t there watching you.
Personally I can’t say it worries me at all, especially this bit about no tax without representation. For those that want to keep their respective passports and have the vote because they pay tax, why? You get the benefits of the tax you pay which ever passport you hold and your vote is going to be of so little significance as to be meaningless, why put yourself through the hassle?
Granted at some point the people around you are going to wonder why you are not making the commitment to living in the country. For example those that are married to a Japanese woman and have children, how do you think your in laws feel when they know that you have retained your passport and not taken Japanese citizenship? Do you believe this inspires trust? How would you feel if you were living in your home country for many years and your Japanese wife refused to give up her nationality? Would it not create a degree of insecurity in you and maybe your family? I suspect some here are asking more of others than they would be willing to give. I think it becomes much easier to understand why Japan isn’t that trusting of its “visitors”.

I get the impression that the Supreme Court has put the US government in a win win situation here by the degree of vagueness of the ruling. The ruling should have left us all clear as to where American citizens now stand, but in fact the opposite is now the case. As Triumvere points out Gaza represents a very difficult situation where a terrorist organisation is also the legitimate democratic government. What then happens when an organisation like the Red Cross try collecting money to send to Gaza? How can an American representative in the UN vote to support money being sent to Gaza? It could also be argued that google is facilitating terrorists by allowing it’s search engine to list their sites. The contradictions this ruling throws up could end up with a night mare court case and verdicts being given based on the feelings of the time. That is not law.
I also wouldn’t be so quick to say that journalists are safe, that might well depend on what they write or say and if that is the case we are getting into a controlled media that is close to being censored.
