It always amazes me whenever I read about women (not only in Japan) covering up their pregnancies and giving birth in secret. Something I will never comprehend. Not to mention the burying in a planter bit.

I wish they had segregated cars not only for women, but also a designated car for mothers/children and their strollers, elderly & retired folk into their own car and then a few for students-only. The student section can be broken down into elementary-middle-high school cars. I hate to ride with throngs of middle/high school kids.

I am so sick of this "sweets" fad. Please go away...I am sick of seeing donuts, cakes, cookies etc has keitai straps. Needless to say, whip cream in the form of nail polish is really stupid.

I think these news story are posted just to start a fire of "parental negligence in Japan" debate on here. It's a shame that my brain reads the headline and automatically files it in the "here we go again" file. Next we just need another child/parent killing or maybe another child left to die in a pachinko parking lot.

Ha!! Hilarious comment.
JT - it would be nice to have an article explaining these guys and their poodle skirt gal pals. They all seem to take their "hobby" quite seriously.

Horrible artwork? Horrible comment. It's manga, not a coffee table book of Van Gogh.
I love book about studying Japanese culture in Kyoto.

I haven't read every single one of these posts yet, but I just have to say, based on my years of living here and being married to a Japanese man, I refuse to have children in this country.
I have confidence in my own ability to teach and discipline, but when I look around at parents (mothers for the most part) and the way children ARE NOT being raised and supervised, I don't want to be involved with that stratum of society and I don't want to expose my child to the result and influence of today's society.
Yes, I understand that sounds extreme but I sincerely feel there is something very, very wrong going on here... Every one of my family members and friends who have visited Japan have commented on the way kids/parents are here.

Dave L. is laughing all the way to the bank while the ratings sore.
As for S. Palin, I have zero interest in her but I will say, I love the way she wears her hair. I wish more women wore their hair up like that. She's quite attractive, despite everything else.

i like scoobydoo's suggestion. And to Mz up there, families should be placed together. Why spread the misery to the rest of the aircraft? "What can you do?" Yes, make families stay home. Please stay home, have the grandparents come to you. If not, administer a sedative.

there is so much more to life than trying to break up the silence with daytime t.v. Throw your television away Jane. Learn to play an instrument, study something, anything but watching horrible daytime TV.
