and the supporting evidence is? seems to me that most child abductions are as a result of pressure from the japanese spouse's parents

I know nothing about Chinese culture, but knowing how they think of themselves and their culture historically, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't view the world in more-or-less the same way.

the chinese believe that they are in fact descended from homo-erectus, not homo-sapiens like the rest of us. look it up

Make the penalty for "running" severe to the point that no would think about doing it. Change the rules of liability so that fault will be taken into consideration rather than the blanket "the driver was at fault no matter what."

and make it clear that helping at the scene of an accident will reduce the punishment by a grea deal, if not removing it entirely

married at 18/19, kid at 20, but i very much doubt anyone around the couple suggested that perhaps they were rushing into things. both would be getting slapped on the back for fulfilling their societal obligations so prudently. parents are terrified of their children not get married. getting married too young is not considered an issue

the number one solution is not to work! unfortunately a lot of places of the developed world consider adapting labour to suit the seasons as a relic of the past, thinking it more modern to compensate by turning on the air-con and burning yet more fossil fuels

nail on head. i can't help thinking that the robot obsession says something about human relations in japan...

Posted in: Japanese scientists grew up watching robot cartoons, so they all want to make two-legged companions. But are they realistic? Do consumers really want home-helper robots?

    even in a non-globalized world...isn't that what they're supposed to do ?

not in japan, they're not. see my above post. universities are supposed to mould young people to fit the needs of japan inc: obedience and deference to authority are the no.1 requirements. companies expect to train their workers in any skills they will actually need for the job

it amuses me when religions put death sentences on those that dare to convert away from the religion. if they were truly sure that their way was the one and only way then it wouldn't be necessary. ideas like this expose the fact that organised religions are at their heart far more political than ideological

i can understand that it is preferable that bystanders do not escalate a situation with over-zealous involvement. however, the certainly that you will be punished for attempting to be a good samaritan hardly encourages people to look out for their fellow citizens. and then add to that the ineptitude of the boys in blue

In other words; "We have no intention of doing anything about the problem"

indeedy do. the j cops seem only obliged to protect the japanese populace, and will also do their best to weasel their way out of that responsibility wherever possible. so much for upholding the peace.

If you do the job right, they take on the manners of their parents.

parents serious overestimate their influence on their children's upbringing. as soon as kids enter full-time education the peer group overtakes parents as the model for their development. think about the most significant experiences that shaped the person you are today; did they happen in the home? i'm willing to bet that the vast majority happened outside of the home, interacting with your close social circle.

parents certainly can do a lot in the early years to teach kids good general lessons that will help them to negotiate life's challenges, but once their spending a lot of their time outside of the home you'd better hope those you entrust them to have the same priorities as you

japanese education is largely a ritualistic exercise in sifting out those most willing to jump through society's hoops. in that sense it suits japanese society rather well, but as Kageyama probably realises, falls flat on its face outside of this country's borders

whilst i agree with herefornow's sentiment, i'm not happy that the modern standard of success is always judged to be rising to the top of the capitalist crud heap. as such, i would like to raise kids who succeed in the art of living. what that entails is rather up to them, but i'd like to suggest that it has a lot to do with ascertaining the things in life that really matter, such as the relationships with the people around you, and striking a happy balance between business and pleasure.

considering this, i'm afraid the japan teaches children the very opposite

people only object to telephone conversations because they can't hear the other half of the conversation. thus, their desire to eavesdrop is left unsatisfied.

anyway, considering the other things we see in public on a daily basis, i still find the uproar about women putting on make-up to reek of thinly veiled sexism. yes, you must look beautiful, no i will no make any allowances in order to allow you to become so...

if the birthrate is going to increase then the government are going to have to convince more and more unsuitable people to become parents. after all, the system falls apart if there aren't a constantly increasing supply of drones to be unpaid in the labour market. sigh
