    The seats ARE flame retardant, so whomever was the Einstein that did this, it was likely deliberate.

    ARE=SHOULD BE

    Don't forget the sandal last year where Koito had falsified test data for fire retardation and damage standards. Koito would have to sink to pretty low standards to produce flammable fabrics, etc, and I'm not even sure JAL use Koito seats, but it is a possibility.

    Although it sounds deliberate, I'm with many here who think it could be IFE equipment related.

    The EX Series engines ensure high reliability and durability by the chain-driven overhead cam (OHC) mechanism

    Hmmm, but it does stumble somewhat on economy. I used to have Legacy's which were brilliant except for their thirst! The mention of less fuel consumption must be relative to older Subaru engines, not competitors!

    Yamanouchi was traveling to Hawaii to attend his son’s wedding at a Waikiki hotel, Song said. Through an interpreter, Yamanouchi apologized for inconveniencing the court. He told the judge he was trying to sleep but people were talking, so he told the flight attendant to be quiet, Song said.

    Who is "Song"?

    Funny how people up in Fukushima keep dying and getting sick-must be something in the water........

    You are right, no one else anywhere in Japan is dying! I never connected that fact.

    UK has hundreds of thousands of cameras now, thanks to terror plots in 80's and 90's. They have caught/convicted numerous people by proving their presence at specific locations. I'm not aware (yet) of any abuse of using these (welcome leads to stories to the contrary).

    Since I'm not doing anything illegal (hmmm, OK I may have hit 52kmph in a 50kmph zone), I'm not specifically worried. I actually feel some comfort in the fact that presence of cameras SHOULD deter some criminals.

    Police also added that the number of calls which were not emergency-related, but instead involved questions such as, “How do I update my driver’s license?” stayed largely unchanged at 26.3%.

    Complete lunacy, but not restricted to Japan. UK emergency services field calls from people who say there is a cat in the kitchen http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-11419815. What are these people thinking?

    I guess all I am saying is that I never get offended if my kids are referred to as "haafu" because I dont think the term is intended to be offensive or mean that they are anything "less" than a whole, whereas people who do get irritated and say "Actually my child is not half, they are double" seem to have a chip on their shoulders and be making something out of nothing, thereby creating an issue that for me isnt really there in the first place.

    Agree 200%!! :)

    I believe that as with most words, "haafu" is neither particularly parising nor derogatory, but it is HOW it is said, and the meaning the speaker attaches to it at that moment it is spoken.

    @Nicky

    I dont get this whole "double" thing. How can anyone be "double"? My kids are half Japanese and half "a mix of the british Isles". Whats the big deal? People who say their kids are double sound to me like they are saying their kids are schizophrenic!

    They don't bring half a culture to the equation they bring both - it is double. The schizophrenic reference is a bit unfortunate, but actually I do see many mixed culture people behaving differently depending on the surroundings they are in. It isn't limited to birth rights either, people who have been here a long time can do the somthing similar, that doen't mean they subtracted from their original culture though, just added!

    @Johannes

    But in the U.S., my children ARE Americans.

    I wonder about this point. Trading one national identity for another is mostly meaningless, if it doesn't happen by choice. Shouldn't Makotosan have realised that national identity is more or less irrelevant in a globalised world, where personal connections and networks - real or virtual - define our identities.

    I think that is what she is saying isn't it? The networks they have built up in their locale make them belong to that area, wherever that may be.

    Sue for unfair dismissal is OK I think - he tried to do things internally, then got fired, then blew the whistle.

    As for being disappointed in major share holders not backing him, that is different. The share holders prime concern is not justice, but share price, and there is no guarantee that his skillset would be strong enough to run a company this size. Reading very broadly between the lines, the old Japanese management probably hired him into the CEO role as they thought their secret was safe as he wouldn't be sharp enough to pick it up. They misjudged him on that, but his record on TV appearences hasn't been earth shattering, and there are many good top exec's out there who could really turn the company around (assuming the existing management will eventually go!).

    I've neverb been particularly impressed by Onkyo gear. As the article suggests, more and more people are listening via headphones and I think this is key. People are moving away from sitting down and enjoying the depth of music and using it more and more as a background to their daily life. People are just changing habits and I suspect the market for audiophile eqipment will shrink radically (even more).

    Hope I'm wrong, but I suspect that Gibson may not have made the best investment here.

    wudnt it be nice if she won a small victory & something good came of it

    Hear what you are saying, but in all likeliness, if she won, it would open floodgates for copycat lawsuits that drain makers reserves and end up in manufacturers needing to raise prices. :(

    Wow, seems like a lot of posters dont mind being BSed by manufacturers, you all must be turning Japanese & just taking it.

    I think it is the other way around in this case. Most people I know, understand completely what the numbers are (i.e. not what you wil get in real life), and are just not gullible enough to be sucked in. This woman on the other hand, is either daft, or just very scheming (I'm assuming the latter). The fact is that ALL manufacturers use the same system to quote the numebrs so if fuel efficiency is your measure, then you can choose the most cost effective and fuel efficient car to suit your budget. Nothing to do with being Japanese I think, just common sense?

    I wud like to see more makers taken to task on the BS milage claims.

    The BS is government standards, not manufacturers claims. All makers are required to "lab test" and provide results based on common criteria. That way buyers can compare apples with apples. I'm believing she knows this, and is going to hold Honda to ransom on this, and I expect an out of court settlement with no terms disclosed.

    Another money making scam - pretty sick really.

    Not sure about this 'mixed kids are unique' thing. It's hardly unusual in this day and age that a child would be of mixed heritage, particularly in a place like the US.

    Quite right - actually all kids are mixed - papa and mama
