of course the crime rate will increase if immigration increases. that would not be because foreigners are more crime prone it is because there is a distinct correlation between poverty and crime. immigrants will be paid less, partly because of language issues and of course discrimination. personally, I have not heard anything that yukio or his cronies have said that sounds as if it were thought out at all. pushing buttons is part of politics but this administration seems to be overly enthralled with doing so and lacking any rational plan of substance to solve any of the problems.

Is everyone else as tired of listening to the J folk whine about american troops, planes, n ships here as I am? It think it is time for the little who to stand up n be counted. Let j land get their own standing army/navy/ airforce, build their own planes n ships....

I just wonder where they think they are going to station the j planes that replace the us planes? and the j ships that replace the us ships? wahahaha, where they going to come up with the money? lets see.... to replace their dependency on the us military to start with, they will need 2 aircraft carriers, 30 destroyers, 30 subs capable of multihead missile launch, 300 bombers, 1000 strike planes, 100 awacs, support for about 200,00 more armed forces, 500 tanks, 500 landing craft.... oh and they they could build islands like they did for kansai, narita, and nagoya to base them on! and the peace loving j folk will gut and burn down the control towers n bomb the base commander's cars like they did for nartita when it opened ; ) they were still bombing cars up till a couple years ago ; )

anybody got a calculator that goes high enough to calculate that? japan is full of silly uninformed people that have not even the slightest grip on reality. had they been forced to provide this level of protection on their own, it would have gutted the production capacity for the export market that they got rich on. I doubt that hatoyama and his drones are so stupid that they are unaware of things, they are just playing off the emotions and ignorance of the electorate.

Iwo Jima? Brilliant! 1200 kilos in the opposite direction from the key source of potential conflict. Go Japan!

    hostesses are good.

    whores are better.

all these posts slamming people seeking to satisfy their basic needs should gets some counseling and get in touch with their basal selves.

being a hostess limits your progression in companies and relationships that are governed by the need to exist in a contrived world and suffering the exclusion of such is by no means a loss. being that everyone knows the rules, those that want to be included are free to choose other professions.

hostesses destroying societal values and undermining the family? what fantasy world are these people living in? my sex drive, as many mens are, is substantially higher than my wife's, so I am to gaman so I can be a better person? more hogwash. those that have higher needs for physical outlets should just be adult n go out n meet those needs then come home and take care of business. its called entertainment for a reason. and the ladies that for whatever various list of reasons for not wanting to meet their male partners physical needs should grow up and learn the difference between a marriage and being a slave holder.

and yes, some guys just need to talk, complain about their bosses/wives/ blow off steam, entertain guests etc. lots of clubs for different occasions. different strokes for different folks. its not only ok, it is a natural and healthy rung in the social order. and for the girls that are not cut out for it? they are free to enjoy the multitude of other employment opportunities out there. I dated a couple of really nice girls that worked as hostesses. of course there are skanks as well, just like any work place.

propagating glass ceilings? dolphingirl, you need to come up for air. nobody is stopping women from starting their own companies and making sure glass ceilings don't exist in their company. the only reason that glass ceilings exist is that the girls have not gotten out there and constructively expressed their equality. if girls want to be equal, they should just knock off their heels n get equal.

girls you go, men need you, whether the women want to admit it or not they need you, society needs you. we as a society to should start being grateful for those willing to travel the road less accepted in order to maintain the social order and mental well being of the simpler half of humanity.

This current group of grads are going to pose a significant economic problem for the Japanese economy. I have noticed this change over the last several years because our group deals with volunteers of high school and college age.

Balance is all fine and good in a perfect world but Japan exists as a country with no measure of marketable raw materials sans highly educated, motivated, cohesive employees willing to work harder than their counterparts in competing economies. As the workforce of Japan approaches par with other industrial nations, their economy will be left in shreds.

The pseudo personal freedom that they think they have gained by foolishly downgrading the educational culture will end in a new serfdom as the cost of living and years of inflation and the resulting inability to handle the draconian inheritance taxes here will gut the finances of the majority of families soon to be led by freeters drastically shrinking the middle class. The monied will always be there to take advantage of whatever economy they have to manipulate.

In our organization, I have seen the same thing over and over. People failing to complete tasks disappear when asked to take responsibility, people failing to manage their time and refusing to comply to the time requirements of the group and a complete disregard for any sense of group. Hahahaha, and yes I have been contacted by more than one parent suggesting that having their spineless offspring bear responsibility is just asking to much.

Goodbye Japan Inc, it was a nice run while it lasted.

nice post dbung10... it is certainly not an english language problem. I would say the issue may be summed up with the fact that the majority of girls that dated here in japan requested that I did not use a condom. none of which became my girlfriend for the obvious reason...

buckle up before you drive, cover up before you saddle up... thank god its ok to screw drunk ;)

apples to apples... no pun intended. the cheaper books dont have the same hardware as the mac so quit saying you can get the same windows computer for significantly less. here is the scoop from dell and apples sites.

    dell.... 999 bucks US http://www.dell.com/us/en/business/notebooks/laptop-studio-xps-13/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-studio-xps-13&s=bsd&cs=04&~oid=us~en~4~laptop-studio-xps-13_anav1~~

    mac.... 999 bucks US http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook?mco=MTAyNTM5ODc

same chip, same graphics, same size screen, same battery, same gen dimentions...

differences? the dell comes with XP... but it has a bigger hard drive and some more memory which would be crucial using xp and having to reload programs with every open window. the mac comes with the mag safe power cord, OSX 10.5... the mac comes with more cool software and it is integrated but open source is available for either for free so...

for the same price, you get a dell or a mac.

I'll take the mac cause the OS X is hands down and I get a multi language computer and unless you are a guru you will spend much less time keeping it running smooth. could be wrong though, 7 may have changed everything.... kind of like chrysler did with the the K car....

some people build their own though.... the ones that do, lets have you guys post some links to pics n specs of the cool notebook computers you built for less ; )

abromofo, a hundai n benz are both made of steel, rubber, plastic n wire... it is not what it is made of but how it is made. the fact that os x uses the open source world and contributes to it is one of the biggest reasons for the ease of use, stability and security that makes it desirable.

in just two years the iPhone has taken 13 percent of the market globally in just 2 years, mostly from nokia. same plastic n silicon. that 13 percent of users are not stupid, they are discerning consumers responding to a positive user experience. Love how people always talk about macs being more expensive. A comparable equipped dell is just about the same price as a mac.

Like I said, I havent tried the new 7 yet but it is just a polished up vista as far as I have read. Of course OS x 10.6 is just a polished 10.5 but since 10.5 was light years ahead of vista in terms of reliability and having an intuitive user interface, my guess is that 7 is still far behind the curve... My curiosity is so peaked I am heading to Joshin right now to check it out ; )

Klein2... are you still using dos, unix or linux on the command line? Remember fortran?fast n simple but I have gotten lazy in my old age and found a GUI quite handy... especially when trying to keep the staff productive. I also can not imagine why in this day and age that anyone would buy office or photoshop when Open Office and Gimp and free downloads... I did seriously give linux a try a couple of years ago but there were a few things like language barriers, syncing, and ease of getting the staff up to speed that made the 120 bucks for the OS seem cheap when compared with my time ; )

hahaha, rock solid n fast... that was my Mac OS 9...

Happened to fire it up on an old book the other day looking for some long lost files... Could not believe how fast it was... UNBELIEVABLE but would I extol it? It is a new day and time to move on. 7 just might be a decent system, heaven knows they have been working at it for long enough ; ) I might just go over to a friends house n give it a whirl.

But I am pretty much stuck on Mac after all these years. Unix underneath to run the geekiest of things, security, lack of viruses, user log ins, iLife and iWork... For those of us in an international, being able to log in in the language of my choice and having my aps open in that language... my choice of 133 different ones I believe is the biggest factor for our orgainzation. Never having to buy 2 or 3 of the same aps so our different staff can use them only to be stumped when a system dialog box comes up in an unfamiliar language ; )

Being able to sync our calendars, mails etc. worldwide automatically with either .me, exchange or our own server keeps us all on board with what everyone is doing.

I suppose that if someone was buying a net book, and was only going to be doing mail n surfing the web it might make sense to take the cheap route... but then again that sounds like a good job for an iPod touch at 2 man yen. But if a guy had to use photoshop or illustrator, a MacBook at 10 man yen seems like a steal compared to a marginally equipped 6 man yen netbook...

Of course there is the gaming factor but with crossover n other virtual systems that seems like a non issue.. besides I prefer the short skirted variety of gaming anyway....

where do these whackos get the notion that child abuse only happens in Japan? to the contrary, I would say that j kids are far more doted on that US kids. the local govts here provide free prenatal counseling, free classes in child rearing, cooking for your family, stress management etc. just what more can the jgovt do

this is indeed a sad, sad story but sitting around and throwing the guy under the bus will not bring change. only you can bring change thru action. solid action like forming relationships with your children's friends parents, forming relationships with your neighbors. people learn thru example. anyone willing to step up and be more than a mouth? we get enough men to man up and love their neighbors and things might change.

yes, these things are increasing here in japan and will continue to increase and the social fabric will continue to degrade as the society becomes more and more fragmented... I feel so sorry for those kids and believe it or not, the mother as well. how horrible to feel so alone and distraught that one could come to such an act.

many posters have called for better social services and claimed that this is rooted in the pride of japanese culture. I completely disagree. social services are natural result of having a community with a sense of connection and feeling of mutual responsibility. the more that people clamor for these services as a way to skirt their own social responsibilities, the more the effectiveness of the programs will also degrade. The real solution to these kinds of issues is having relationships with our neighbors and family members.

Japanese are not too prideful to ask for help but it is hard to ask for help from people they have relationships with. How many of the posters here have asked their neighbors over for coffee or dinner? How many have taken the time to learn enough of the language to communicate with their neighbors?

as for social services here in Japan, single moms and low income people are eligible for public housing for very reasonable rates, childrens medical care is 200 yen per visit to the doctor. mothers are provided classes before they give birth and after they give birth teaching about maternity and motherhood including cooking. these classes give expectant mothers a chance to meet other expectant mothers in close proximity because they are held in the local prefectural health building. they also have follow ups and get togethers for the mothers as well. finally, injections are free sans some shots that are not deemed critical and even flu shots are provided at discount for low income people.

bottom line is that programs and welfare are not the answer. community is the answer and if the foreigners here have time to castigate this women and run japan's social system and culture down, they should have enough time to be examples and spread the love among their communities.

Most of the people here need to take a chill pill. Who cares if the guy is 22 years her senior. My current girlfriend is 29 years my junior. Should her dad beat me up? She enjoys experiencing more than she would with someone her own age. There is a good chance that this girl did too. And what is wrong with all the haranguing deai sites. Meeting someone in a bar in Roppongi or Namba is somehow better? There are slags anywhere you meet people. I hear about how dysfunctional people are for not meeting people 'the old fashioned way', but when you go to an all girls school or you work 60 hours a week, not because the culture is warped but because you are subject to an extremely high cost of living, meeting people might be hard unless you are trolling on the train. Dad was out of hand, pure n simple. Little girls need protection but there is a difference between protection and abusive control. The time for input was far before she was 16, if he cant trust her now, nothing he will do from here on out is going to make a difference. I have a 16 year old daughter and if she wanted to date a 38 year old guy I would say nothing about it as long as he had her home by 5:00 pm and he had no visible tatoos ; )

PleasureGelf, thats the whole point. To make that silly high pitched giggle go away for a small fee.... That in itself seems worth it and anything else is a bonus.

And by the way, who cares? Nobody is twisting these girls arms behind their backs.

Why is everyone acting like every middle age salary man in Japan is off? A man works hard, he has a few extra bucks and a couple of times a month he wants to hear 'like this?' instead of 'why?'....

herefornow... I am fine with everyone saying that little girls should not be selling their bodies, their parents should be watching out for them and men should not endeavor to seek out 13 year olds for sex but.... what planet are you from when you say that Japan is non competitive because they have a different view of workplace norms and the place of women in their society. These things rank highly in their ability to be competitive economically. To the contrary, making allowances for gender and race outside of normal competition in the work place hurts a countries ability to compete internationally.

For the record, I think there are far more worse things going on here for the police to focus on rather than little girls selling their underwear and then entrapping customers by coercing an alliance from the young 'perp'...

Been watching this post for a few days to see how it would go. A story about some bimbo that is popped for drugs garners hundreds of posts yet one of the most important stories to come along in months gets only 4 so far. There is no greater black mark on society than the apathy that allows huge blocks of the populace to live in abject poverty. Japan should be ashamed of itself with regards to its track record of taking care of its less fortunate. But even more so should be the shame shared by all foreigners coming here, sucking up at the trough and leaving nothing in return.

herefornow, dont kid your self, the DPJ will do nothing to bring any meaningful change. There are going to be swamped for the next while paying back favors ; ) And once they get that task handled, they will be busy getting themselves re-elected...

These issues will change when there is truly enough outrage felt by the common man to stand up and be counted. With the response here, I would say that we are eons away from that point now.

Marriage is for adults and part of being adults is realizing that our various desires and needs vary from partner to partner. If a woman is working out on the road or just has a sex drive lower than her partners it would be nothing more than reasonable to accept another party into the relationship. That would go as well if the guy was not around to keep a smile on his brides face. Sounds like in this case the child was needing adult care as well so the supposed arrangement would make perfect sense. Life is short and meant to be enjoyed. Peoples private lives should be just that, private.
