Balfour is the best the Rays have out of the pen. He'll be making over $10 million next year.
Following baseball has nothing to do with knowing that Balfour had been hit hard in this game. Ortiz was 1-17 before this game, I believe. Not exactly his old self without Manny, is he? He came up clutch this time, though.
These are the key statistics: Balfour vs. lefties: .120 batting average against; obp against: .194; ops against: .362. That is utter and complete domination. Righties batted .159/.260/.534 against him. So much for your baseball 101 argument. An innovative manager such as Maddon, who keeps the Sartre quote "Integrity has no need of rules," is not going to be bound by righty-righty, lefty-lefty pitching rules. You'd know that if you followed baseball.
Balfour left with a three-run lead. He had a bad outing, but they were still leading the game. Not a sloppy decision. Nobody is right all the time. You can bet he'll be out there again, swearing up a storm, especially if the game is on the line. You know he says the F-word every time the batter swings and misses, right?
Please define "random" stats. And "sloppy". You need to justify your opinions with something of substance. As Maddon would say, "Discipline yourself so no one else has to."

If that's true, then it must mean that flashy looks are not as important as quality. This is truly the greatest generation!

Balfour: 82 k's in 58 innings. Without even checking, I'd guess he's in the top five or better in K's per 9 innings. ERA: 1.54; WHIP: .89 - two more indications of his awesomeness.
Please clarify what you mean by "The Rays were a bit sloppy pitching Ballfour (sic)" because I don't think you can find much better. What a great comeback he's made, too, after elbow surgery. He'll be getting a tidy sum on his next contract.

Kitakyushu is notable for getting people off the dole. There was a guy forced off by heartless bureaucrats who literally starved to death there.

It will be if all the money they've loaned the U.S. does not get repaid. The bailout package, now $800 billion (should have taken it at $700 B. - actually should not have taken it at all), will ease the pain a bit for the Asians, but IT'S NOT NEARLY ENOUGH.

There is no need to lower the price if it is what the market will bear. The problem is inability to get loans these days.

Using this logic, the Nishi Nihon Shimbun should only print news occurring in Western Japan, the New York Times should stick to New York issues and ... you get the idea.
Biden is better than the guy at the top of the ticket. Palin is fresh and charismatic, but not enough to persuade undecideds. She is new to this, though, and she'll get better and better. Still not the best candidate that could be found in her party.

The Twins are a real team - probably more so than any other as they had about 100 fewer homers than the Black Sox. How was it that they were fourth in the league in scoring with so little power? Team play.
This stupid one-game playoff was unnecessary as the Twins had lead the season series 10-8.
Angles will win the WS.

More from Stansberry:
Buffett received a security worth about $3.2 billion in exchange for his $5 billion investment in a high-yielding preferred stock. His net exposure is only $1.8 billion. On this capital at risk, he's getting paid $500 million per year. That's a 27.7% annual return. And he may eventually end up owning 10% of the company.
What's Buffett's risk? Well, thanks to the government bailout, he probably doesn't face any.
I've watched Buffett carefully for nearly 15 years. And this is probably the best deal I've ever seen him get, which tells me Goldman was in even worse shape than I'd imagined. (See our discussion of this in the mailbag, below.) As Buffett proves time and time again, there are big advantages to holding cash and waiting for inflection points in the market.

From the Stansberry and Associates Digest
Over the last three years, Goldman Sachs reported net income totaling $19.6 billion. On the basis of these "profits," the managers took their bonuses and their glory as Wall Street's smartest investment bank. Meanwhile, Goldman produced no net cash flow. In fact, cash flow over the last three years is negative $93.6 billion. There's a $113.2 billion disparity between the amount of cash the company produced from operations and the amount of profits it claimed via its accounting. Even when you factor in all of the returns from its investments (which produce negative operation cash flow), you still end up with a net negative number... –$800 million. I've got no doubt that Goldman has the world's smartest accountants. In fact, I wonder how many of them used to work at Enron...

There will be some pain, but letting the crisis burn itself out is the right thing to do.
How many of you know really rich kids? Were they decent people? Probably a few, but most get pretty lazy. Not much incentive to do otherwise.
Another question which could be posed: Should we let the FED continue? They are like this drug dealer who says, "I'm not making people use drugs." Well, they sure are facilitating it. That's why we have all this negative equity in the U.S.

Watch this video and see if you agree: http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/291.html
It's a seven-minute video about why Eliot Spitzer was taken out of the picture for exposing Bush's part in the predatory lending industry.
Look at his father's involvement in the Savings and Loan crisis. Do you think it's just happenstance that a Bush is involved every time the U.S. banking industry falls into a black hole?
