LFRAgain -- your conspiracy argument has no credibility, because, as is often the case, you are completely mistaken in your understanding of the facts. Ford is NOT getting a free pass. They are recalling their hybrids, just like Toyota is doing. What Congress and the Transportation Department are on Toyota's case about is completely separate -- the sudden acceleration problem. That has been linked to 34 deaths now, and goes back several years. (It clearly states that in the second paragraph of the story). At least read before you rant..

The coverage early in the morning/during the day is OK, because it is live, so the J-networks are forced to show everyone. The taped coverage at night is pathetic -- pure Japanese rah-rah. The born-in-Japan Russian pairs skater, who finished fourth, got ten times as much air-time last night as did the medal-winning couples. And the gold and silver medal winners were simply incredible. That's a crime.

sarcasm123 -- agree. Toyoda-san is still holed-up in Nagoya trying to figure out which end is up, instead of getting out in front of this, as EVERY crisis-management expert in the world would tell them to do. (Sorry, but an op-ed piece he "wrote" in the NY Times, I believe, is not the solution.) And, Sfjp330, your conspiracy theory posts are getting very boring, particularly since they show no understanding of how the bureaucracy in the U.S. works. The Transporatation Department and Congress are being aggressive because they've been hit with charges of being too slow to respond. So, while politics is no doubt a factor, it is not to help GM or Chrysler. Rather it is to make sure the voters believe Obama and the Dems in Congress are protecting them. Novemebr is a mid-term election.

The FSA has no one to blame but themselves. After Osim's unfortunate stroke they took the cheap/easy way out by giving Okada a second chance, despite his pitiful results when he took the team to the World Cup before. They have to stick with him now.

thepro -- agree. Respectful of the U.S.-bashers here, CEO's of high-profile companies are expected to testify in Congress if their is an issue regarding their industry, or their company. This is not Japan-bashing. Just last month all the CEO's of the big banks were hauled before Congress to testify. If Toyoda-san does not appear, it will look like Toyota has something to hide. IMO, Toyoda-san owes the American consumer an appearance. Toyota makes billions in profits every year in the U.S., and needs to act accordingly -- which is to have the guts to face the panel and answer the necessary questions about what Toyota knew, and when they knew it. Again, IMO, if he does that, and has the facts to support his statements, Toyota might actually be able to gain from his appearance.

Hawkeye -- agree. Seeing him lying on the ground with an oxygen mask on, and blood coming from his mouth, is not reporting, but sensationalist/shock journalism. I think the TV networks should draw the line at reporting. If someone wants to see the gore, they can go to countless web sites and see it.

Reminds me of the picture of Dukakis in the tank. Hatoyama is clearly clueless when it comes to the military/defense. His mommy's money kept him well sheltered from that sort of dirty stuff.

dbung10 -- huh? Where in my post did I speak about, or even imply, I was speaking about the kind of Roppongi queen you mention? Respectfully, I don't consider 6 months in Australia or anywhere else having really lived overseas. On that we agree. I was more thinking about J-women who haved possibly grown-up overseas, or attended college there, or at least worked for a couple of years elsewhere. Enough time to have potentially been involved in one or more relationships while abroad, so that they may have developed a different frame of reference and attitude towards sex.

bicultural -- good on you. You found your modern-day geisha. But, to the point, how often does she jump your bones? Or is she also "reserved and respectful" and "very Japanese" in that way too? See, since this article is about sex, I tend to agree with Jonswan. Based on my experience, passion, which is different than sex, is almost non-existent in the "narrow confines" Japanese ladies. They grow up thinking sex is like a duty/obligation. But, as he points out, J-women who have lived overseas are likely to be more assertive/aggressive sexually. They seem more able to handle true passion and not just dole out sex on Christmas.

vulcan -- your anolgy between Japan and the Philippines (double P by the way) is way off target. First off, China and Japan have a history of mutual distrust/conflict dating back generations. No such situation exists with China and the Philippines. Second, China and the Philippines are not rivals for natural resources, etc. like Japan and China are. Or have you missed the row that is going on about the natural gas reserves under the Sea of Japan between the two? Third, Japan depends on un-restricted use of the Sea of Japan and other critically important international waters which a Chinese blue water navy could threaten. Finally, China is NK's main supporter. If that looney in NK decided to launch a test rocket towards Tokyo, China might have to choose sides. So, while I agree with you that China is not an imminent "military threat to Japan", Japan's and China's interests are not the same. Japan is far better off by having the U.S. deterence close at hand.

SEPTIMUS -- Are you for real? How in the world do you figure Clinton has "some nerve" in asking the Japanese government to honor its commitment? If NK launched a missle at Japan today, would Japan expect the U.S. to honor its commitment and shoot it down if they could? You bet they would. Seriously, you and YuriOtani need to stop ranting and do a little reading on this subject. Just last week the Daily Yomiuri has a three or four-part series on Japan and its future, with interviews with notable western (non-American) scholars. And all agreed that Japan owed its current economic status to trade with the U.S. and the mutual defense agreement. Throwing the bases out would be about the dumbest thing Japan has done since Pearl Harbor.

Shouldn't suprise anyone, even if the source is not 100% reliable. Every year a reputable organization surveys sexual activity levels in all the major countries. And, every year, Japan ranks near the bottom. Believe the latest figure had married couples here only having sex between 35 and 40 times a year -- or less than once a week. So, Spa!'s numbers are certainly believable. Simply one of the numerous reasons Japan is in a serious state of decline.

LoveUSA -- How in the world can you deduce that "she trusts him completely" and "his heart is full of admiration for her", simply because she had her head on his shoulder? For all you know, that could be as much jet-lag as affection. Or that because he is a comedian that he will "never let her cry"? Huh? I somewhat admire your attempts to create an aura of romance here in a country which desperately needs it. But, please, show some restraint, because there will be at least as many break-up/divorce stories here in 2010 as romantic ones for J-celebs. Trust me on that.

"Two wrongs don't make a right". As others have stated, they both were at fault here. The Ady Gil was playing a very risky game of chicken, and the Shonan Maru clearly turned into the Andy Gil. The important thing is that outside of Japan, this is being reported in a very negative light for Japan. So, from a PR standpoint, the Ady Gil gained more.

She must have a small head if she was able to rest it on Tamura's shoulder. He can't be 50 kilos, soaking wet. And that includes his hair and all the gel/mouse he puts on it.

LoveUSA -- huh? How in the world do you infer from my comment that I "dream about being married many times"? Please, don't put your, or maybe your husband's, fantasies on me. First off, I am in a committed relationship, and have been for several years, which gets better every day. Second, I have a rule against dating J-ladies, so any thrill Ishida-san gets by courting and marrying them is totally lost on me. Find another target for your silly pop-psycholgy. And, if he's such a "nice guy", how come her father can't stand him?
