Cool, I'm there. If it is half as good as the original it will be JPY 1,800 well-spent.

Anyone seen this movie? Has it sold well here in Japan?

I know I'll get a lot of flack for this, but my experience is that really attractive J-ladies are very high maintenance -- seriously self-focused and immature. I can only begin to imagine how bad that would be if they were a celebrity. I agree with observerhere and norinrad21 -- Good that he got out early and with a minimum of damage.

The prevalence of guns is probably the thing I like least about my home country. The NRA there is like the right-wingers are here -- they have way too much political clout compared to their actual numbers.

Very sad. Sincere condolences. Hope he and his wife can overcome this tragic loss.

USNinJapan2 -- I undertsood, even if thepro didn't. Heck, just look at all the greenspace these kids have put ON TOP of buildings in their city. That doesn't exist at all in reality and shows just how much smarter the kids are.

womanforwomen -- let me get this straight. You walked out of a restaurant because some women had to manuever their food around their veils, which I guess you found unappealing. But I'll bet that you don't walk out of Italian restaurants here when J-guys slurp their pasta like they are eating ramen, or, even though they are eating with a fork and knife, pick up their plates and shovel the food into their mouths. So, being a sloopy eater is OK, so long as you're Japanese and doing it because you are simply ignorent and uncultured. But, it is offensive when it is done to yield to a religious belief? Do I have that right? My god, your and Beelzebub's intolerance is disgusting. No wonder you two feel so comfortable here. And, Beelzebub, are J-folks dressing up like clowns when they wear elaborate kimonos to attend traditional Shinto weddings? Isn't that "wearing their religion on their sleeve"?

Beelzebub -- Enlightened comment. But let me make sure I understand your logic. It is OK, for example, for Japanese women to cover themselves from head to toe, including scarves, to protect themselves from the sun, but not OK for a woman of the Islamic faith to do the same to honor her religious beliefs. Is that correct? Nice logic. And, if they arrested every woman here who wears a "cross" piece of jewellry, the streets would be empty.

fleetwood -- so walking and smoking at the same time makes you "smart"? Hardly. Just makes you an inconsiderate dinosaur. Go ahead and kill your self if you want, just do it in a manner that is not so offensive to others.

My respect for Bush has now risen from zero, to something just slightly above that. If Bush had listened to Powell instead of Cheney in the first place on things like Iraq, the U.S. would have been much better off.

tigris -- I understand the concept of "soft power" and the potential for Japan. However, as I pointed out, I don't think cuties in school uniforms is the best way to promote that. What is the link between this gal and manga, anime, music, movies, TV programs, etc. that you mention? I'll answer it for you -- none. Respectfully, Japan fashion is not a plaid skirt and a cardigan sweater -- that can be relicated anywhere, as I said. Sorry, but you will never convince me that "Japan = Cute" will ever help this economy in any significant way.

abrofomo -- good response, but did you really stop to think about what you wrote? The issue has nothing to do with whether I'm the target or not. How many 20-somethings from other countries can afford to come here? And, even if they get here, how much will they spend while here? They are not the kind of tourists that the hotels, restaurants, etc. need. And they can download or purchase the manga and other stuff they are interested in over the Internet anyway -- without coming here. The point, which apparently escapes you, is that the Ministry should be spending our tax dollars in order to generate an ROI for the economy. Cute girls won't. Even if gals in Thailand get all excited about the uniform look, what makes you think they'll buy Japanese brands? Any textile plant in the world can produce plaid skirts or white cardigans-- and a lot cheaper than Japan can.

What blatant hypocracy. Toyota and Honda only exist at their current levels because the U.S. opened its automotive market to them, and, despite years of currency intervention by the J-government to provide a favorable exchange rate, never passed any protectionist legislation. Now, just because they want to allow the dealers to replenish their stock during this program -- which, by the way, the U.S. taxpayer is paying for -- they want to bitch? Unbelievable.

abromofo -- Fair comments. By the same token, is cute really something that Japan wants to bet on for helping to improve perceptions of it? And, what about the dark side of this whole uniform fetish -- like guys continually being arrested for taking photos up young girls' skirts. Is that "still know how to enjoy themselves and have fun" spirit you wake up each morning being pleased about??

DarkKnghtZ -- maybe you answered your own question. Speaking just for myself, I don't want to ever be able to say I watch 6 Japanese TV shows that Shizu-chan would be on, and therefore have a "clue" as to who she is. At that point, I head straight for Narita, because I've allowed myself to be dumbed-down to the 5th grade level of intellect this kind of promotion reflects. But, if you are a big fan of her's, good on you. To each his own.

I would honestly hope that her parents had bigger "challenges" in mind than just being cute. That's gonna end in about 4 or 5 years, and then she'll just be another pretty J-gal with no education or career. I see hostessing in her future.

Which is the guy amd which is the gal? No question that the one on the right is more muscular and probably has more testosterone than the one on the left. Just look like two cross-dressers to me.
