Rugbyfan -- absolutely. Scum is way too nice a word to use to describe Oshio. If he somehow manages to emerge from this unscathed, and has any kind of career in the future, then Japan certainly has lost all sense of a moral compass.

XXXXX -- Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar I believe for her performance in DreanGirls, so she "overshadowed" pretty much all female singers/actresses with that role. Which, does not make Beyonce any less talented in her own right. Respectfully, do you think Jennifer Hudson can dance anywhere near as well as Beyonce? virgo is dead on.

I think she should be given a suspended sentence, but should have to spend at least 100 hours in counseling with her son. Any person who has been through a divorce, and these two seem headed for one, will tell you that counselors stress to never make the kids believe that both their parents are a@@holes -- that totally pulls the rug out from under them psychologically. Here we've got the husband ratting out the wife and the wife blaming the husband for getting her started. The court's one and only concern in sentencing her should be the well-being of the boy. And, since she has done a lot of the damage here, she should be held responsible for getting the boy the help he's likely to need. Sending her to jail is only going to make his situation worse.

Wow, bad weekend for 30-something, female J-celebs. One's in jail on drug charges along with her druggie husband, and another got a quickie divorce after admitting her husband is a cheating druggie as well.

BobbieWickham -- sorry, but you and KyotoChris are not "on the spot". KyotoChris' silly comments aside, the issue is not whether Jewish people happen to be in a disproportionately high number of key positions in the financial world. The issue is whether a newspaper with the stature of the Nihon Keizai should accept an ad that clearly panders to anti-semetic feelings. The issue is about what standards a supposedly well-regarded news source should be held to.

Helter_Skelter -- agree. But, it would be nice if they started a new tradition that actually does something to address the awful heat-island problem in Tokyo -- like planting trees, or going around telling all those folks waiting in cars with the engines running to knock it off.

Good news is the son is too young to remember all this. Hope Yada moves on and builds a good life for herself and her boy.

I "Wish" Fuji TV would get past this juvenile crap and actually air some decent television.

fightfan2008 -- Is that really the best defense of this argument that you can offer? Do you really want to say that the fact that J-society cannot seem to address numerous social issues is not a measure of their inate intelligence, but the fact that a small minority can make nice bowls is? Or that simply by making such an observation you are filled with "hatred"? So all the posters who have commented on the apparently complete lack of intelligence on J-TV are just full of hate, rather than being capable of actually making an intelligent comment? That's plain silly, no matter what side of your brain you use most.

Wish these folks luck, but as they themselves admit, they are not likely to succeed. Too much vested interest here opposed to them. As stated, not only does the J-government own one-half of JT, but they also get 60% of the cost of every pack of cigarettes sold here in the form of taxes. The finances of Japan simply could not take the hit from a huge change to smoking practices here. What I find most discouraging, however, is not that a bunch of old salerymen who have been smoking for years want to continue killing themselves with "Mild" Seven. What I think is most problematic is that young men and women still believe that smoking somehow makes them more manly or sophicticated. Are they that impressionable -- still? In most other advanced countries that perception died years ago.

The news report ob Friday said this was the first time Aiko has ever gone to the cinema. A shame she could not have seen something better than a washed-up Richard Gere in a dubbed-over American movie.

Guess Ms. Ligron learned first-hand that Japan isn't France afterall, despite the fact that many women here copy much of their fashion sense from there. Apparently she didn't grasp that a J-lady carrying a LV bag does not equate to being international in the truest sense of the word. They are just copying their peers, not adopting a way of thinking.

Guess it was fairly easy to cast this movie, as most J-guys are about as thin as long distance runners. But, my gosh, the 2nd guy on the right in the first row can't weigh 50 KG, soaking wet. Those aren't legs, they're toothpicks. Pretty sad that the cheerleaders are all better built than almost any of the guys are. But, in their defense, the guys have better hair.

I can't imagine the marketing back at Mercedes HQ are too excited about this. Like all car companies, Mercedes is trying to convince folks how Green and environmentally friendly they are. But not in Japan. Here they flaunt their ignorence of any social concerns. Just another example of how Japan really is an island nation when it wants to be. The car sure is dope though.

LFRAgain -- outrage, maybe not, I'll give you that. But a teacher, particularly one in his 50s, is supposed to demonstrate more maturity than the youngsters he's responsible for.

illsayit -- huh? What the heck does "foreign influence" due to proximity to Narita have to do with a J-guy killing a J-woman, and kidnapping another one? And, what does any of that have to do with police and sexual gratification?

nigelboy -- as usual you conveniently miss the point, in order to defend J-pervs. Respectfully, this young woman does not care about what the statistics on similar crimes may or may not be in other countries. All she cares about is that she was subject to a public humiliation because a member of the police force could not control his juvenile impulses -- for her the percentage is 100%. Doesn't matter one iota to her what other countries' percentages are. Must give her and other young ladies like her great comfort to know that the guys who are supposed to be enforcing sexual predator laws, are instead violating them.
