risingfro ... fair enough. Although you must not believe in the old expression "You need a cushion for pushin." I just find nothing particularly "hot" about skinny women with no real shape -- especially ones modeling swim wear. Particularly since many of them are actually somewhat flabby relative to their size/weight, especially their upper arms, legs, and what butt they have. Give me a shapely, athletic gal over this anytime.

I've lived here well over five years, and can count on one hand the number of times I saw a J-guy give up his seat. But, I probably do it onec or twice a month, at least. My motivation is simply to make J-women, particularly the older ones, realize that all foreigners are not "bad", and, actually, compared to their own clods, are more often than not, quite considerate.

This has all the makings of a great made-for-TV movie/mini-series. Maybe she'll get out in time to play herself.

I almost feel sorry for Obama, having to try to deal with this mess. But, he staked his reputation on Afghaniston, so now he's stuck with it.

Beautiful and talented and truly and actress. Not like the flavor of the week J-"model turned actress" that normally fill this spot.

This is a society that has numerous glaring contradictions/hypocracies, and this is one. Society winks at these business establishments, knowing that they are skirting the laws, and also knowing that they are likely to attract a certain percentage of nut jobs as clients, but then hide behind hideously weak anti-stalking laws. If J-men are having an increasingly difficult time having real relationships, and these kinds of cases are becoming more common, then the laws, and the way they are enforced need to be changed. Critisizing the gals, and not addressing the underlying social issue, is crap.

If by "big brands" you mean Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt Grand, Peninsula, Hilton, Westin and Shangri-La, the answer is no. But, of course, the GM at The Imperial is Japanese.

Deplorable. I can accept it when a small restaurant had "hushed beef" on its menu. At least it was trying to accomodate English speakers. But, when major companies like JTB, JR, etc, as well as many multi-nationals use pig-English, that is simply laziness, and only worsens the poor langauge skills of J-kids.

societymike -- that's crap and you know it. It is not Japan's "culture" to demean women and treat them as sexual objects no matter what their age. It is nothing more than an acceptable societal norm which has emerged over the past 50 years or so, as J-men have become increasingly unable to manage real relationships with women. And, whether someone is simply a visitor here, or a long-term resident like myself, they have every right to comment. Because that view of women is unhealthy and is keeping Japan from truly competing on a global level. You can't relegate over 50% of the population to sex object status and expect to compete with the EU countries, the U.S., etc.

Simply a crutch for millions of J-guys not eating well or living a healthy lifestyle. If they didn't spend so much time strapped to their desks, leaving only for smoking breaks, and grab their breakfast, lunch and dinner at convenience stores, they wouldn't need this stuff. No substitute for eating right, getting some exercise, and enough sleep.

womanforwomen -- you're kidding, right? We can see "nice Jladies" every day on the streets of Tokyo. And, guess what, they all look the same. About time to see a real, non-barbie-doll woman, who truly is sexy, not just trying to look sexy.

ptolemy -- spot on. Bet none of the folks bashing the dad ever raised a teenage boy. I did, and can only find complete sadness in my heart for both these unfortunate victims -- actually three, including the mom.

"From trash to trash". Hope the door doesn't hit these bums on the way out. Maybe if they spent less time being politicians, and more time being legislators, they might still have jobs.

No surprise here. Anyone who has been in Japan longer than a week or so sees this first-hand every day. Japan is very-much third-world in thinking in many ways. This being just one. Hopefully a DPJ-led government can start to correct this problem.

JT -- you run a picture of these guys at least once every six months or so. Isn't there anything more newsworthy than this bunch of over-the-hill, skinny guys, crying for attention every weekend?

WhiteHawk -- Must be wonderful to be so self-rightous, and know that unlike Ted Kennedy, you yourself, and the folks you support, have no human failings or have ever fallen short of your "dreams". ( I guess "Mission Accomplished" was just an aberration, right?) However, since you want folks to "prove your points wrong", I will do just that. Fact is Kennedy had no "sailing waters". In fact, a members of my family have sailed many times in races and regattas around the Cape and the Islands that Kennedy participated in, and have pictures of him and his sail boat in the waters of Hyannis. Please stop showing your ideology-fed ignorence. Kennedy was wealthy, no doubt, but, more than any of your heroes, he was a man of the people.

presto345 -- please come out of your stupor, no doubt brought on by your 40 years here. The LDP model of relying on exports and heavy borrowing to pave roads hit the fan at least fifteen years ago, when China, India, Vietnam, etc., etc., started to grow and steal and render Japan's reliance on exports obsolete. (Compare Japan's % of GDP from exports to the U.S.'s.) The declining birthrate IS a real issue, since there are not enough wage earners to shoulder the huge public debt -- twice the GDP -- or pay the pensions, or, build a solid domestic-demand-led economy. Really, you need to master Econ 101 before you go to the LDP's defense. Not the LDP version of economics.

What is all the "Roppongi is dangerous" crap? Sure, some drunk guys got rolled for some big tabs, but that's not "dangerous". Dangerous is concern over your physical well-being, and I can't remember a gaijin being killed in Roppongi since I've lived here -- in Roppongi -- for over 5 years. Does Roppongi have ruthless and some unsavory elements to it? Sure. But the yaks would never let it become dangerous, as they would lose all their business.
