Teacher/student relations are rife in this country. I'm not a religious person, but there are a whole lot of values and ethics embodied in them which contribute to a society that makes ethical decisions. Japan, a religious void, could probably use some kind of teaching in this area and why these kinds of relationships are improper. At the same time, I'm sure many a parent is concerned as to what kind of mongs are custodians and supposed educators of their kids.

What's the best solution when you have a problem in Japan? Follow the examples set by your peers, and off with your head.

"We liked each other. I didn’t see any harm in a kiss."

That's probably why he shouldn't be a teacher. But this is Japan, where teacher-student relations are cool.

"But his behavior was still inappropriate, so we would like to apologize to the student and her family.”

Sorry which part? Contacting each other through email? (yes while there might be legitimate conerns and queries answered, there is also this kind of to-and-fro) Driving students home? Or finally kissing her?

I regret being brought up in a country with more morals.
