Unlike Iraq under Saddam , NK actually has WMD and maybe even capable to deliver it. Military option might have been feasible in early 90s, but that window of opportunity is gone. Back then almost everyone was 100% sure NK's days are numbered because we've seen how East Germany just disappeared in couple of months. More than 20 years passed and nothing happened. Why? Because China was keeping Kim regime alive all these years and will keep doing that for another couple of centuries if that serves their interests. Unless worldwide oil embargo against China is put in place, free oil will keep flowing to NK.

It's time to scrap for Japan that damn Article 9 and start building aircraft carriers of their own. China has grandiose plans to build their made in China carriers.

How about putting oil embargo on China until they agree to put oil embargo on NK?

Most likely Afganistan will be split into Taliban-control Pushtunistan and the rest controlled by the Northern Alliance. Taliban can do whatever want in their part as long as they don't let Al-Qaeda guys in. NATO and US will still keep some of their bases in the other part to keep Taliban on a short leash.

Russia wants to supply gas at the same price as for Europe, but China wants to pay less than 1/3 of it. So, it's just talking and nothing will happen in the foreseeable future unless hot war between US and China flares up and LNG supplies from Gulf is cut off.

Looks like it's perfect time to abolish Article 9. All Asian countries except both Koreas and China would prefer militarily strong Japan as a counterweight against red China.

Sony-Ericsson was banging its head against a wall trying to sell phones with walkman. After losing most of its market share and firing half of its payroll, they just realized the Sony legacy is actually a liability and just threw the walkman part away and built a normal Android smartphone.

Read The Yalta agreement here http://www.taiwandocuments.org/yalta.htm It's full of "land grabbing" deals by the Big Threes and regarding Japan it states: Sakhalin, Kuril Islands,Dairen,Port Arthur etc. will be handed over to USSR provided USSR enters war within three months after Germany capitulates. So USSR invasion of Manchuria was a obligation towards the Allies and USSR got what they were promised. Nothing less nothing more.

    |quasi-obligation stemming from a British-Soviet agreement.

Check Wikipedia before doing such statements. Actually both US and UK asked USSR to attack Japan within 3 months after German defeat at Yalta conference and Soviets did that exactly 3 months later, on 8 Aug. Regarding the "land grab", it was already agreed by the big-three at the same conference: http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/history/A0852937.html#axzz0wkT8t4iL BTW, As a Mongolian I would like to add that agreement also included recognition of independence of Mongolia by US and UK. That's one of reasons Mongolia provided 16000 soldiers for the invasion to help Soviet Tran-Baikal army to cross deserts and mountains of Mongolia and Manchuria. I don't care if that invasion actually accelerated decision making at Japanese side at greater degree than A-bombing. But I am damn sure the world had became much much safer without Unit731 at least.
