Got a link/recommendation for such a book, Zenny?

Better still, who is doing the lending here?

..an interesting article recently about an organization called the Japan Property Management Association, which called a seminar of 170 real estate agents to discuss how to get more foreigners into the vacant housing stock of the nation.

Simple. Make it easier (or indeed possible) for foreigners without PR (and without a Japanese spouse) to get financing.

FIFA has said that if one is thrown onto the pitch, they'll ban them.

There's hope for this world cup yet..

In April, the U.S. Air Force Yokota Air Base, west of Tokyo, canceled a screening at its on-base theater to show sensitivity to local culture.

I thought the reason was because they've only got one theater and no one would have gone to see it.

In that area, there are more options now than there used to be for foreign residents because some foreign banks are willing to lend. With the main Japanese banks, it is still a little tricky if you don’t have permanent residency.

Who - with a branch in Japan - is loaning to foreigners without PR?

I've been shopping around for 2 years, no one will talk to me unless I have PR.

So their entire case rests on the court ruling that whaling under scientific permit is commercial whaling - despite being carried out under review of the scientific committee of the IWC.

    Good luck with that.

That's nice. But butyric acid is what SS have been polluting the antiarctic with, not rancid butter.

Annex IV to the Environment Protocol prohibits discharge of oil, noxious liquid substances...

LOL. How many liters of butreic acid have SS been chucking into the waters over the past few years?

    Wait...

    2940 yen for scalia anchovies???

That's absurd. I paid 750 yen at my local super here in backwater hokkaido, and even then I thought I was paying too much.

Patrick Smash: Yeah, but this is not research whaling, and everyone knows it. Aus can win the case quite easily by proving Japan's program has nothing to do with research.

Anyone with google and a few seconds to spare can find examples of Australia doing research fishing, using the same methodology, for the same ends. Certainly enough to knock that argument out of the water.

case in point (one of thousands) http://eprints.jcu.edu.au/8092/

The fact that Japan is following the IWC charter will make it even harder for Australia to use that argument.

Australia's going to have a very hard time with this one. Getting a body to hear the case will be difficult enough, given that Australia is attempting to bypass an existing dispute mechanisim at the IWC.

Looking forward to more detail on the case, though.

Have not had a land line in 10 years. I could probably go a day without my cell, but I don't know why I would.

It's not just Japan. Ticket sales for this world Cup are way down, and safety seems to be one of the biggest factors in keeping people away.

I don't want to live in a country where people are not allowed to speak their political opinions freely.

Of course they have the right to protest. That's a given. But protesting is one thing; using force to FORCE your opinion on others is something else, no?

I agree. If they start throwing bottles of acid at people or ramming their soundtrucks into the film company's headquarters, they should be arrested.

In the meantime, standing around shouting is a fair protest.
