Elvensilvan, Did not know that. Great info! But, still....that was a powerful EQ and Tsunami.

Hide- I agree Japan is safer than most other countries, but the sheer number of mentally unstable out there is a real worry. Treatment and support for mental illness is lacking, and like I said, in Japan you never know when one of these people is going to lose it.

Ben - so this "Storm" is a comic book character? I see. Does he work for an airline, perhaps?

Storm: Do you know what happens to a 787 when it's struck by lightning? [pause] Storm: The same thing that happens to everything else.
That's coming from Storm.
NetNinja - Just to confirm. That conversation was between "Storm" and who else? The thing that happens to everything else was what exactly? Was this "Storm" person quoting himself? Dopes he happen to work for either Boeing or the FAA?

spudman - whats this about "Christian countries"? I didn't see anyone reference them. You sound like another self-hating foreigner with that statement. As far as Japan being "above" killing mentally ill people, we will never know since no one is ever diagnosed as being mentally ill. Help for such people is almost non-existant.

This is what scares me about Japan. How many other off-the-grid lunatics are walking around out there with knives? Or ready to push you off a train platform?

JapanGal - kudos on having read the whole thing. I ignore all posts in which a nap is required to get to the conclusion.

Women are excused, but men ( and I use that term loosely) who listen to wussy pop music or whatever passes for club music these days NEED to be scolded. Much like those poor, hopeless souls who wear socks and sandals at the same time. It's for their own good.

The only way this madness is going to stop is if the foreign media exposes to the world what the Japanese government is doing. It's time for a "Cove" type expose on radiation levels in Japanese crops. Until then the government will continue to knowingly cram it down the throats of its own people.

notice the 9/11 conspiracy theorists getting all excited because they've found an ally. A completely insane, backward rabid anti-semite, but that's good enough for the rest of the nutjobs out there

All those empty platitudes like "Gambare Nihon" were BS from the start. Theres no real sense of community in Japan except for at the most local level.
Posted in: What the people want more than anything at all is the sense that other people – the rest of Japan – are keeping a careful watch over them and are ready to help. Instead, they fear that the rest of Japan is watching the baseball and comedies on TV and have forgotten about them.

Nothing but a clumsy PR attempt by TEPCO to illicit a bit of sympathy from the Japanese populace. Nothing more, nothing less.

ExportExpert - I understand it. Its a Maori wardance, not rocket science. (that also begs the question; Why are the white guys doing it?) And like sourpuss says, why shouldn't Canadian players get to shake their asses? Double standards here...

ExportExpert - I'd say those 2 wins were because NZ were the better team, not because of the dancing. I've yet to see any fear in the eyes of opponents when watching the Haka. One of my most traumatic memories in Japan came years ago when 2 drunken Kiwi friends of mine decided to perform the Haka in a crowded izakaya full of unsuspecting and perplexed Japanese. It was met with the most embarrassing silence I've ever had to endure. I tried hiding under cushions until the normal din of voices resumed some 15 minutes later.
