The residents of Tottenham are from various backgrounds and cultures. The majority of residents and those who took part on the riot were native British who were born in the country. The majority had parents or grandparents originating from abroad but i do not see what that has to do with the riots.

steve, no doubt they all had working mothers eh?

Which completely explains why all my middle aged Japanese female acquaintances love them. A girl I work with (in her 40s) has a Girls Generation calendar over her desk. Go to Okubo and look at all the women buying K-Pop goods (Kara and Girls Generation the most popular girls groups) - their average age is in the mid 30s, at least...

well, Smorkian! I guess if a middle-aged Japanese OL approves of them, they must be gold! Move over, Bob Dylan! Smorkian, let me guess. You enjoy the stylings of Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers as well, eh? Ouch...

Smorkian- they may be in their 20's, but their target audience is Japanese youths 12-to 18ish. Unless you find yourself in that demographic, may god have mercy on your soul.

Girls Generation is clearly not a group of lip synchers. They were recently on Japanese TV performing acoustically. Like their music or not, they are talented!

Smorkian - hot girls with legs up to their neck is called "sexy", not "talented". Due to my GF, I had the misfortune of watching one of their performances just last nite and can assure you, like everyone else on Japanese TV, they were lip-synching. Then again, if pre-teen idon-factory pop is your thing, have at it. But for your sake I hope you are under the age of 16..

Christina O'neill - you make an excellent point. Ban's trip will be heavily orchestrated by the government and will have a very strong buffer against ordinary Japanese

kchoze - Halloween is a traditional one day a year festival for children and adults attending parties. Unlike cosplay, it isn't a year-round expression of sexual frustration or cry for help. Still, Ill take the one in the blue (even if she probably getting back at her father for divorcing her mom)

IIRC, it is historically rude in Japanese culture to show your teeth. It was just a different cultural norm, and it led to Geishas and women to color their teeth black back then so as to try and make their teeth invisible even when talking or singing. That's why many Japanese women put their hands before their mouths when they smile, it's a mannerism adopted because of that cultural norm.

kchoze - thanks for the Japan 101 bit but this isn't 1923 and times have changed. Notice I only implicated Oyajis. anyway I'll take the one in the blue. "Smokin hot whether shes gaijin or not"

what is it with Japanese Oyajis and their refusal to show a genuine unabashed toothy smile? Takahashi looks like he's counting the seconds till he can run to the nearest toilet.

    110-120 JPY to the USD.

I don't remember the question being "What would USNinJapan2 like the exchange rate to be for a good night out in Roppongi?"

JT - I'd say 80% of the responses so far are a good reason not to ask such a controversial question. Clearly most posters here have proven themselves to be unaware of basic history, or complete lilly-livered, bleeding-heart revisionists. Either way, it's always cringe-worthy. Stick to which AKB48 member JT posters prefer.

gotta agree with a lot of posters above. Japanese "psychiatry" has been reduced to pills, and a pat on the back accompanied with a heartfelt "gambatte ne"

Mexicano -Morally its incorrect, but u agree with Utrack? Makes a lot of sense. Ill bet the last time a Fukushima cop was faced with a life and death situation was when he fell out of his cot in the back room of a koban. Explain to me again why I should pay for a cops gas money to Disneyland? My father was a cop for 35 years and I don't remember him bellyaching about having to pay for his own gas.

Utrack- utter rot. Why should taxpayers pay a cop gas money on top of his salary? And using your logic, doctors, nurses, paramedics etc should all get free gas to drive around all day as they please?

Daddy-o, I believe your expression was "a complete dearth of details". Now if I was the journalist writing this piece, yes, Id find that derogatory and insulting. Do u honestly believe they left vital information on the cutting room floor? Why don't u have a little patience and realize statements must be taken and investigations finished.

chewitup - 6 hours between the accident and the posted report, and you want the victim's shoe size? Why don't you channel your inner Woodward and Bernstein and see what shocking conspiracy you can uncover.

Fadamor, miyazawa - I think what BlueWitch is inquiring about (me as well) is the joke of the century that ben4short has in mind but wont share. Perhaps he realizes, there is no joke in fact...

ben4short - If the joke is completely lame (let me guess - "He drank too much coke"?) then yeah, it needs to be explained.
