Ive heard of all these wonderful ideas, Beelzebub. But please join me in the real world where the vast majority of Tokyoites have neither and therefore have to take trains.

Cleo, nowhere in Beelzebub's comment did s/he mention the merits of living in the city as opposed to the country. Nor is that even the point of the discussion.

Beelzebub, great head in the sand theory. In a country where mass transport is the only way to go for the average citizen, you'd recommend taking a taxi at 10 times the price of a train ticket?

She could have been wearing a suit of armor and it wouldnt matter. She was hit by a truck. Many Japanese truck drivers act as though they own the road and I doubt this scumbag is worried about anything more than whatever fine awaits him.

wow, its been almost a week since a kid fell off a balcony in Japan. Again, parents see nothing wrong with letting their kids crawl around on a balcony. AND the parents were home this time. Ive said it before and Ill say it again; pathetic.

seijishuudo- oops! got me there. What can I say? After 8 years of hearing W's soundbites, he finally got to me, too. But don't worry, after Obama finally gives u yanks healthcare u can be proud of, he won't need any more support for the remainder of his 2 terms. His wild popularity will finally bring you up to par with Canada and the Northern Europeans you so obviously admire! Go Obama!

seijichuudo9sha - I hardly think applauding an American President for speaking eloquently and with proper dictation means I think of him as "world president". Perish the thought. It's just a sad commentary on your last 8 years.

Ashika1009 - quite a bit of sour grapes there. Unfortunately the only thing you got right was not spelling "loser" as "looser" as most Americans are apt to do. Do you pine for the glory days of George W.? Perhaps speeches would be more inspirational with a lot of "ummmm"s and "y'know"s sprinkled in?

Right on, Timberlandic. You drive accordingly to the conditions. You dont fly past a mess of people and cars at 50km/hr+ in a 3 ton truck just because thats the posted speed. Common sense would have saved the kid.

Typical Japanese truck driver. A 3 ton truck and like most of them, ill bet he was speeding going down these narrow roads. He even admits he saw congestion, yet took no measures to slow down.
