thebottomline- If a total hack like Mariah Carey reminds you of the "good" times in your life, well,...stay away from Rainbow Bridge. And by the way, MC and morning musume are one and the same. No-talent, over-produced crap designed to take advantage of teenage girls who don't know better yet.

I wonder if he made this pronouncement with a "Mission Accomplished" banner behind him.

Sarge, it scares the bejesus out of me too, but the airlines aren't like renting a car-If that's the only thing they offer going back to the states in a few years, that's what you're going to be stuck with...

Samurai, Im hurt. I think I fill a very good role as a BS detector for certain posters who make outrageous claims like "foreigners on Japanese TV are to be envied", or "Japanese look out for each other on a communal basis".

Anyone with any brain at all realizes that the average Japanese barely look out for their own family members let alone a stranger's kid.

papasmurf, whether or not a Japanese "talento" could make it on foreign TV wasnt the point. The issue here is very specifically "what do u think about foreigners on Japanese TV?" I'm not sure why you seem to be so upset by this. It's hardly an attack on Japan if that's what you're worried about.

Papasmurfinjapan, What a knee-jerk reaction to a very good question. If u didn't get the point of the question, u might want to read it again. It's pretty obvious. Fair dinkum makes a great point by the way. The overwhelming majority of foreign talent are on the show for 1 of 2 reasons. They either speak Japanese very well (Spector), or are willing to perpetuate the Gaijin-as-clown stereotype(Bobby). Just about all, however, are mediocre personalities.

Sounds like more deadbeat parents leaving their kids at home all day. In this case to look after the old man. Yet another sorry picture of the ugly underbelly of this country

Cool watch but shame about the cheap looking band. Looks like it was lifted from a 1983 Timex..

Romeo, Obama's guns and religion comments were spot on and angered no one but a few Republican Rush Limbaugh types who are looking for ANYTHING to slow down the jaggernaught(sp?). Only 8 more months till President OBAMA. I, for one, can't wait!

Do the Chinese really fear a bunch of 70-80 year old senior citizens so? I don't think there's a Naganite (sp?) alive who's young enough to even keep up with the torch-bearers...

sagecat, if this pathetic excuse for a "band" sells out MSG let alone the parking lot of a nearby DairyQueen, I'll eat my shorts. Just another no-talent hairband that can't play or sing. (I thought these were extinct as of '89?)
