Linkin Park changed the way we listen to music

It changed the way emos listened to music- for about 5 mins. Seriously NetNinja, if they were so special, why cant the average person hum a few bars? I don't care for some of the bands listed above, but at least I can say I'm familiar with their work and could belt out a tune at karaoke, but Linkin Park? They take generic rap, and package it in a more white-friendly way (computer generated hooks etc.). Add generic lyrics about being frustrated and misunderstood, VOILA! the 16-24 male demographic eats it up.

KISS?? If they didn't wear make up and spit blood, you'd have never heard of them.

If "showing your age" means appreciating music played on real instruments and not computers, call me old. Id rate Linkin Park up there with Susan Doyle as far as style go. Neither one has any balls and both are over the top radio-emo for soccer moms.

Without question and not even close, The Who. NetNinja - Linkin Park?? The category said "Rock", not emo wuss boys.

ben4short - And once again, you avoid the question put forth; Is it ethically right? Its debatable that his family will see proceeds, its a fact that the filmmakers will. So, ben, now that the movie is being made for the fact-starved Japanese populace while it's so fresh in their minds, is it? This wouldn't be a cynical move by Fujioka et al to get their stalled careers off the ground, would it? You're not so scared of scorn from one side or the other that you'll refuse to make a judgement, are you?

Although the film makers have a legal right to make the movie, is it morally reprehensible to make a movie that will inevitably be seen as a mea culpa, and pay out blood money?

And yes, JT mods, I know this will surely be your next question of the week. All I ask in return for my inspiration are beer coupons.

ben4short - Very moving. But doesn't excuse your snide commentary to the likes of Maria who simply had the cojones to say in a nutshell; "No, this is unethical", instead of skating around the issue with a lot of hot air about what is legal to do

127 posts could have been whittled down if someone had said from the start; Although the film makers have a legal right to make the movie, is it morally reprehensible to make a movie that will inevitably be seen as a mea culpa, and pay out blood money?

I still think it would be very difficult for a convicted criminal to write a book while in prison.

zichi - as has already been established, the book is written, and he did so while in police custody or prison. So let's stop worrying about that bit of trivia and ask; Where will the blood money go? To Ichihashi's parents, who were uncooperative in helping police find him while he was on the run?

    I love the following two posts involving Ben4short's pontificating about the ethics, morals and legal ramifications of the book;

    Maria -

Ben4short: Have you read the book?

    Ben4short -

    Maria, no, but so what?

i do not think the father is smart either raising the child.. he divorced the mother.. regardless who did what.. the child is the victim.. now she has to "learn " american life.. where weapons in school, bullying ,, and other things you tend to hear. something in japan you do not need to worry..

@Barbara Reder - This is one of the most uninformed, naive statements I've had the misfortune to read. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you've never stepped foot in Japan or read any modern books about it. Heres a little dose of reality for you; Bullying is a way of life in Japan, and kids who are different like this little girl will face a lot of it growing up.

Because it was submitted to AFP by the Tokyo office so l would say that its a fair bet wouldnt you.

Spidapig - no I wouldn't. I don't see any mention of the story being submitted by a "Tokyo office" and if it was, does that nescessarily mean the journalist is Japanese? Are all AP reporters natives of the country they are reporting from? No..

Ain't it great that life is so simple, horsefella, and that you got all the answers?

Ben4short - Life IS pretty simple when you have a sharp intuition, common sense, and great looks like me. (don't look now, but a majority of following posts agreed with my assessment)

Funny the Japanese are upset by some booing (it is a sporting event afterall, not like the sanitized event here), yet doesnt mind stooping to some childish name calling. What a great reporter calling another nation "hermits" etc etc, wonder how the Japanese would feel if a reporter called Japanese a bunch of mindless lemmings? Imagine the outrage....

Spidapig - "Hermit Kingdom" has been used to describe North Korea by the international press for decades now. And how do you even know that this report was written by a Japanese journalist?
