afterearthquake, Spidapig- Both your arguments are disingenuous and silly. I'm sure neither of you are so stupid as to not know the difference between calling someone "the first black president" and "a black arsehole" (Williams exact words). My guess is Williams was just hopelessly naive and ignorant, as are so many who grew up in an almost exclusively white culture. I'll bet the both of you have felt the sting and complained over similarly ignorant comments against foreigners if you both live in Japan.

Don't forget Tim Raines (when he wasn't on coke). It was the '94 season that did me in. They had the best team in baseball, were gonna finally win it all, and then go on strike. Still makes me ill...

tmtmsnb - If the headline says she was taken to the hosp. for a cold, then she was taken to the hosp. for a cold. tmarie is correct in saying Aiko needs some tough love that will help her to become a well-adjusted adult, and not grow up to be an anal bag of nerves scared of her own shadow.

mutitasker - yeah I was an Expos fan back in the day but they broke my heart too many times. The Blue Jays I root for cause theyre a Canadian based team, but thats it. Being from the Maritimes, I'm also a part of Red Sox Nation, so I have a soft spot for them, too.

for all of you shocked and outraged at the criticism, I think I can safely assume it is directed at the over-protective shell being placed around her by her parents and probably more so the IHA, not at the girl herself. Get a grip.

The 18 months away from school is a sign that Aiko is well on her way to having stunted social growth. I hope not, but I can see her spending the majority of her adult years out of public view and basically too useless to even show up for ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

Someone should tell the fools who name these things (climax series, BJ league etc) how ridiculous they sound. They name them in English to be more "international" so why don't they ask a few actual native speakers as to what doesn't sound like a sex act?? Then again maybe they did but asked a couple of bored teenaged boys...

Just another day in Japan and just one more brain-dead parent to blame for the death of their own child. The mother should b charged with negligence. Who lets their 1 year old toddler just crawl around near traffic then "didn't notice" where they are? Pathetic.

The key word here is "estimated" and should be amended to "knew".
As most of us here predicted, the J-gov will let the truth out slow and methodically.

Typical Japanese gov't or industry response. Anything is OK as long as a legal or technical loophole can be found, but they totally ignore or dismiss whether it is morally or ethically right i.e. sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, "scientific" whaling, gambling, sex industry, kidnapping children back to Japan, etc....

time to put the Haka to bed. All this talk about culture is BS. Its nothing more than a bunch of white guys pretending to be Maoris giving a collective finger to opponants.

didnt they say the same exact thing about 6 weeks ago? The good news is no one, not the Japanese public nor outside world, really listens to or cares what the Japanese government has to say.
