“We express deep concern and regret over the visits..."

    Who speaks like this?

The same thing happened last year, and the year before that, and so on... yet no further incidents requiring greater concern arose. Take it as read that your concern is unwarrented and perhaps feel regret at your own need for publicity.

so it's a minute fresher than the "display" which was available immediately but you let it by?

I think its more about the number of mouthes and kiddy fingers its passed by on the three circuits its already been on.

Somebody above mentioned the chain, I forget the name, but they have covers - I think this should be standard practise, it'll save waste and is probably cheaper than all the other inventions they are coming up with.

The only time I've disliked the otoshi is in cheap chains or places that like to cut corners. Mostly otoshi is a small reflection of the menu, so if you go to a place that serves good food, you'll likely get a good otoshi.

For those who like potato fries, cheese balls and kaarage with there beer - then otoshi probably isnt going to be something favourable, as its usually a distinctly Japanese dish.

Why upset the serving staff and kitchen staff so early on in your meal by contesting 250yen.

lucabrasi - Japan is an export driven country, so a strong yen will effect companies, which will effect peoples work.

Hi Peter, I was thinking more about food prices, which is what people have mentioned being something that might rise in price. Your right about apple products, I got some good deals on those. Cheaper than my home country.

As a whole I dont think the rise in the yen really reached consumers.

I'm with you on the weakening of the yen. I'm paid in pounds and so any decrease helps me and my family. I believe that is the case for the majority of families in Japan.

By the same reckoning prices should have come down on imported goods. Prices have generally remained the same.

The yen was 240yen to the pound less than 5 years ago, its now 145. People werent dying in the streets back then.

Centers for human beings are already tough places to stay in. No comfort, no privacy, lack of adequate food, it's not easy to keep decent hygiene so that refugees don't get illnesses. Centers should not be transformed in barns.

I live with a dog in a perfectly hygienic environment.

Even we say only dogs, how can you keep 30 dogs in a gym and they don't fight to death ?

    Cages

I don't want to see some precious rescue resources wasted at finding how to transport animals

My dog sits comfortably on my lap

I've been sad to lose pets, even certain plants,

    you've lost a dog?

If you consider your family like cattle.

such a heartless thing to say.

You have to put things in perspective and accept it's NOT like losing a relative or a friend

My dog is one of my best friends. He lives in my house 24/7, which in my eyes makes him family too.

And if you can't it's a mental issue.

perhaps you should visit a doctor.

the yen has been massively overvalued for the last 4 years. Its gained alittle, but its still undervalued.

@CrisGerSan - the foreign press are reporting the election as a move to the right, highlighting Abe as a nationalist. By saying this China adds an official approval of this speculation, which will turn a mistruth into a truth in the eyes of those who arent paying attention.

    Well said Michael Craig.

I'm sorry the guy felt there was no other option. Are these things planned, I'm not so sure. It's pretty sad to think of somebody stood on a platform and feel they need to do that to escape what ever pain they are in. I wonder what was so bad he didnt want to get on the train that day.

My grandfather was in a Japanese POW camp in myanmar. I was told very little about it, but physically he was scarred and my lasting image of him was that from time to time he would suddenly come to life, get out of his chair in the corner of the room and do a little dance. He probably died hating Japan.

Do I hate the Japanese? no. I came here, found them to be decent, kind people. For awhile it would cloud my judgement to a degree. But, to live your life, you have to face every new encounter with a positive attitude.

Before my grandmother died I was able to introduce her to my now wife. I feel that I laid to rest the pain my grandparents felt.
