This is a reasonable solution and outcome for the affected and I feel sympathy for her situation.

However I think it is ridiculus that he got special treatment as a soldier that a civillian wouldnt get. An american who is not a trained killer working in an illigal war - but say an humanitarian - would not be treated like this.

"In Japan progress happens at about 1/10 of the rest of the developed world"

How can you say that? Japan is the most technologically advanced country in the world? Are you confused with another country?

"so it takes for ever to get from point A to point B in Tokyo."

Obviously you have never been to Japan. You can get most places very very quickly.

doitsujin -- you must be new here. J-media almost never focuses on anything but J-teams or J-athletes. Apparently they think that is all the viewers here want to see. Which is probably true, unfortunately. Read one of the American sites yesterday, and they talked about a woman's cross country skier from somewhere in Eastern Europe, who won a bronze medal, AFTER breaking like four ribs and having a collapsed lung suffered in a training-run fall. We didn't hear about thet here. Guess Japanese believe they are the only ones capable of "gambatte", and, therefore, cannot relate to inspirational stories of other country's athletes. Sad.

America sounds great. I think Japan should be just like America.

I don't know buddy, I could be wrong, as you say, just my opinion here. Still haven't seen such fascination for ice skating in my 8 years in japan...

I am sorry, but you are wrong. Japan is one of the top figure skating nations in the world. Figure skating is often on Television, and as I mentioned in my previous post, the foreign events have fixed advertising in the arena aimed at the Japanese. I have never seen advertising of that kind for another sport in my life.

Your negative criticism was unreasonable and fact-less.

Wrong. When you watch a European ice skating contest ON JAPANESE TV, you will see bill boards for Lotte and other Japanese companies IN THE FOREIGN STADIUM. You could not be MORE wrong.

A lit tower will help 'cure' the bullying bastards who demean and abuse women? Better to write a letter to Santa...

What is wrong with you? Why is there anything wrong with this?

There was a suicide (I assumed at the time) on the Yamanote this morning. Someone went under the train at Meguro Station before 9am today. So sad.

EACH of the roads had poor lighting. Sigh.

Please show me evidence that a lack of lighting and crime go hand in hand. And even if you can, please qualify and quantify why increased street lighting is more important than environmental and sleep considerations.
