why, this one! Japan has no territory outside of Japan. Currently, Britain which is an active member of NATO and also part of the Commonwealth does not have a single carrier and is unlikely to have one until 2020 or even later. Japan does not need carriers for defense.
Britain has two carriers right now with one to be mothballed in 2014...and in 2020 as you mention, the new HMS QE class of carriers are to be delivered...
You are correct though...Japan does not need carriers...the US Navy is being paid well by the JN Tax Payers to maintain military presence in and around Japan for the Japanese...
But Japan does have quite a few subs with "Cruise" capabilities...they can sit in Yokosuka, drink Sake and launch...YEAH...that's what I'm talking about!!!...

Yeah, I agree that TEPCO and the monitors need to make public the extent of Mr. Yoshida's illness, whether it be from the radiation exposure or otherwise...
That is so all the other workers have at least can make an informed decision on whether it is safe to continue working at the plant without some more precautions...and for the general public to have the straight skinny...

@ihrwjhs. Seems ihrwjhs has personal experience in dealing with PR in Japan. ihrwjhs had to wait "40-years". We are talking about "legal immigration" here. Cannot believe a seal "Ara-chan" & "Tama-chan" can get resident status in Japan when a legal immigrant contributing to Japanese society has to wait 40-years. I am happy to see that America allowed both Emiko and Garcia to obtain residency regardless of where they were from. I hope the daughter is able to get a bi-cultural education and upbringing to make the entire world a better place. Hopefully, Osaka in the meantime leads the forefront in making Japan a better place. Tokyo is behind the times it seems.
Yeah, I probably screwed up when I filled in the Immigration paperwork for a PR visa...I should have put a AKA of "Ara-Chan" or "Tama-Chan"...and perhaps it would have only taken 39 years...lmao...
As far as the US Authorities giving Emiko and Garcia residency...it is not easy and a lot of paperwork is needed to get the proper visas...many applications are rejected and has been one of the main reasons for all of the illegals coming into the USA...there is also a law where the authorities are not allowed to ask a person for proof of citizenship or status, once they are on US Soil...unless another crime has been committed, at which time, they CAN TRY to proof residency or immigration status...but those cases are the exception and ICE has their hands tied in most cases...
I too hope that the daughter is able to enjoy life with a bi-cultural upbringing with both parents being a part of her life...that is the most important thing...

Like some people hate Apple Pie...I hate EngRish Teachers...nothing against you personally IF you are one...it's just a personal thing...and personally I don't think foreign EngRish Teachers are any longer needed as there are enough well educated JNs that can properly teach the English language with the benefit to the students of being able to be afforded the proper Japanese interface when and if needed...so I believe that "Teacher of English" should be reclassified by the JN Immigration to be non-qualifying for obtaining a residency visa in Japan as it is taking away jobs for an already struggling Japanese economy...
This sort of re-classification took place for the Engineering field back in the late '80s/early '90s, which directly affected me and I had to re-train and re-classify within the my field, in order to continue getting a 3 year extension, until of course I was told by an Immigration Official that he thought that I may be eligible for a PR Visa because of my blood line...which turned out to be the case and so now, I can work in any field that I want or NOT work, if I decide...which IS the case now as I am retired enjoying sites like this, just to pass the time...and annoy people like you...lol...
Happy Thanksgiving!!!...

A few observations after reading quickly through the posts here...
American Citizen = Does NOT have to be born in the USA...they only need to have one parent that is a certified American Citizen, which automatically makes that person a NATURAL Born American Citizen...or one can be a Naturalized American Citizen....in either case, they are AMERICAN CITIZENS with ALL the rights offered and available to all American Citizens and they can vote in any US Election...BUT only NATURAL born US Citizens are able to take the office of some positions, like President...that crap about, "was Obama born in Hawaii, irrelevant since his mother was an American Citizen, so by birth Obama is a NATURAL born US Citizen...and able to hold that office...it doesn't matter if he was born on the Moon...
So back to case in point...I don't know if the Father, Garcia is an American Citizen or not but that does not matter and it also does not matter, if the child is an American Citizen...as long as she and the Father were legally residing in the USA...which I would have to assume that they are since, he filed for divorce in Wisconsin which means that he has to have a US Social Security Card...and so, under the rights of legal residents, the "abduction" took place from US Soil so Japan has absolutely NOTHING to do with this case...other than to return the child back to US Soil...oh that's right, Japan again has opted to worm their way out of that one by not having any agreements with the USA, for extradition...how convenient!!!...but they want all their citizens returned from North Korea???..."eat crap and die"!!!...
The last point, and I know I am going to be thrown under the bus for this but I don't really care...but "EngRish Teachers " should NEVER be granted Permanent Residency Visas...they should have the same working visa like all other Gaijins are offered...UNLESS, they are married to a JN or can proof Japanese 1/4 Blood LIne or more...and that 10 year waiting period is totally insane...I waited 40 years for mine and can remember the bottles of Johnny Walker and $100 bills under the table at immigration to get the three year extensions forever...if it were up to me, EngRish Teacher trash...would only get Semester Visas and ONLY with documented proof that all of their students were pulling 75% or better in their classed...hey they do that for foreign students...so the EngRish teachers should fall under the same requirements...hey, at least I didn't say "Canadian EngRish Teachers"...that's another story...ok, I'm ready now for the "bashing"...just watch the face though...lmao...

Agreed that the child is the Victim of all this...
BUT, what in the hell does the father filing for divorce from the mother have to do with the father not being smart to raise the child???...
And YES, IF the child does make it back to the States, she probably will have to learn the American way of life...where YES, there are weapons, in some cases in schools, bullying in some places and other things that make the world go around.
And NONE of that EVER happens in Japan huh???...NEVER???...bullying...NEVER...weapons (more knives than guns)...NEVER...fear of being slashed by a knife toting wacko...NEVER...kidnapped and your body chopped up into little pieces and dumped on some deserted road in the mountains...NOT in Japan...NEVER???...I must have been reading a Japanese newspaper and listening to the news on TV that misstated where the crimes occurred then...
You must live in a different Japan...a safer Japan...
In the States, you just have to become MORE street smart on your own...they don't have the "Public Announcements" on "how to carry your umbrella" in the States, like they do on the trains in Japan...
Is it safer in Japan as compared to the States???...that all depends on what areas you are comparing...
Lets just hope that everyone concerned in this case, comes together for the child and stops the BS with their own adult needs...

zichi, I don't need to go back and read your previous comments...I believe you!!!...I got the FIRST time you stated that...enough already!!!...
What are TEPCO and the JN Government NOT doing???...not telling the people that have land in the immediate area around the Fukushima plants, that they will NOT be able to occupy that land for decades...that would be a real good gesture on their part...rather than getting the hopes up of those people...second, to immediately buy up and give or allocate public land to those displaced people, in other areas of Japan where they can start a fresh, new life...third, stop implementing actions which have either no positive outcome or worse yet, compounds the problem...like moving waste material outside of the already contaminated area immediately around the plants...if anything, take all the waste material and move it all to those areas...it's already unusable anyway...why move it to other areas of the country where it COULD make those areas that the Government wants to house containment "tanks", more prone to contamination...I am sure that there are other things but...
And, do I have ALL the answers...hell NO!!!...but what I DO know is...the JN Government and TEPCO, who you say, you have "questioned" in your past posts and the "NUKE" Scientists (I get that too...the first time you posted) and Engineers that you obviously have high regard for...need to sit down and outline several courses of action...discuss these options "in-house" and with experts outside of Japan...and then act on them accordingly...rather than being so quick to act on something that is of course, un-chartered territory for everyone...
Don't get me wrong...I am sure that they ate all confident that they are taking the right road but many of the actions that they have put in place are extremely questionable...
The most recent one, being the "Field Trip" tour for the media, into the devastated plants...I hope the folks in the media that took their "bento boxes" with them on that trip...have good life insurance...I understand that the Government and perhaps TEPCO wanted for the media to get a first hand experience with photos and write-ups to be provided to the public without bias...but we have robots that can do that...and those white suits and surgical masks that the media constantly show people wearing whenever they go into the restricted zone...will do little to stop the radiation from getting to the body...the closest thing I can relate to that is, the "water and food" tubes that they put on Military Submarines, in the event that the Sub sinks...the public is told that they can pass water and food to the crew until they can save them...the only problem there is, the tubes are all welded shut on the inside of the pressure hull...how do I know that???...been there and seen it...
Your turn!!!...I have my cheeks wide open for you...lmao...

zichi, I could care less about how your objection to the "tone of my comment"...
I knew that you were talking in particular of the actual "REACTOR" itself but I just needed to get your blood boiling a bit so that in the future to clarify your posts to mean that and not the buidling as a whole...
Putting that aside, my comments are not directed at ONLY you but as a "wake-up" call to everyone, mainly TEPCO and YES, the JN Government...who PROBABLY know the truth but like so many things that they take on, do it for their own or contributors gains...
Stop protecting the JN Government and TEPCO...they didn't do it right from 3/11 and still are NOT doing it right!!!...they need help and it obviously is NOT from the "team of scientists and engineers in Tokyo"...who obviously don't have a clue either...IF it was their recommendations that initiated the recent "end-game" plan!!!...
Get with the program!!!...

there were no explosions at the reactors. There was a meltdown and melt-through in reactors 1-3. $ was empty of fuel and 5&6 were shut down prior to 3/11.
zichi, you're correct...there was NO direct explosion of the reactors and there were meltdowns and melt-throughs and #4, #5 and #6 states are as you posted...
Having said that, there WERE explosions of the gases given off from within the plants and there WAS radiation that was emitted into the air and into the soil and water from the entire Fukushima complex...
Those ARE the facts and undisputed at this point...no matter what you or the JN Government and TEPCO would LIKE to have the JN people believe...
Lets stop the crap of saying that ALL is well and we will be BBQ'ing in the Fukushima Nuke Plant parking lot in the Spring...
The S&#% has already happened and all that the JN people as well as the world can hope for now, is to come up with a PLAN...and obviously the JN Government have NO idea what that is...any help from within Japan and from outside sources, should be welcomed, so that the brightest minds can put together a "MANIFESTO", a term that the idiot JN Politicians so like to misuse...that puts some direction on what needs to be done, in moving forward...of which does NOT include living in or farming on, the immediate area around the Fukushima plants and many other areas that have been highly contaminated...
That BS, that was televised and reported in the news lately of moving soil off of the contaminated land is NOT going to work...an idiot would know this and they don't even need to have a "Nuke Disasters for Dummies" book written for them...you can't move 100+ Sq KMs of land!!!...well, you could...maybe Osaka or Tokyo would be good storage areas for the waste material???...lmao...
So, get with the program!!!...and help come up with some common sense, educated ideas on what needs to be done and NOT done for the benefit of everyone...and STOP downplaying the devastation and impact...

Back in the 60's or 70's when Japan wanted to export cars to America and Britain, the manufacturers were told to build car factories in those countries. Which they did. Today 80% of the cars sold are made in those countries.
If America wants to sell cars in Japan, they can come and open a new factory?
You are 100% correct!!!...BUT...in order for the US Manufacturers to open a plant(s) in Japan would be a total nightmare...I would venture to say that, the Diet would discuss that issue forever and never come up with the approval and if they DID, in lets say a couple of decades, there would be so many restrictions and policies in place, that it would not make sense to open a factory and profits would be the same as it is now...
I am sure that Detroit has looked into this over the years...they are not ALL idiots in Michigan...
And on some misguided posts by some that American cars are all gas guzzlers is not the case any more...you need to do your homework a little better...

Maybe they should start making better quality vehicles, instead of criticizing Japan. Many americans don't trust american cars, I don't know how they expect Japanese people to trust their cars. It took them more than 10 years to realize they need to make vehicles with steering wheel on the right hand side of the vehicle to sell them in Japan, executives at Big3 are not exactly smart people.
First, let me correct you on the Right Hand Drive issue...that is NOT a Detroit issue as much as a Japanese consumer issue...the Japanese consumer of US vehicles want the Left Hand Drive as it is SUPPOSE to be a "Status" symbol, which is totally Post-War mentality...it is a known fact that it can be extremely dangerous to drive with a Left Hand Drive in Japan or vice versa in the USA with a Right Hand drive...
There are some countries, Australia comes to mind...where it is required, or at least it WAS a requirement to change over the incorrect sided drive within an allotted amount of time after import into the country...
In the case of Japan, the Government obviously doesn't care which side the drive is on...
On your point of Americans do not trust American Cars...that is SO FAR from the truth...Americans do trust American cars but in many cases, on the lower priced models, they do not have the "toys" included as "standard" equipment like in the case of Japanese and Korean models...with those features and in many cases, the MSRP Sticker Price, being lower for Japanese and Korean vehicles because they are "dumped" on the US market and the Japanese back home pay the difference that the Japanese auto makers lose in the USA...
Now, let's look at the other side of the coin...lets say if the USA were able to "dump", US Models in Japan...and lets just pick a few models for this discussion...Corvette, Charger, Hummer, Cadillac, Lincoln, F-Series Pick-Up Trucks...if the US manufacturers could sell those vehicles in Japan at the same mark-down "dump" price that the Japanese and Korean manufacturers do with their cars, do you honestly think that the US vehicles sales in Japan would not increase quite a lot for the above mentioned models???...I don't think so...
So the next time you start slamming countries and people....at least post both sides of the issue...
As for me...in Japan, I always buy Toyota cars and Yamaha Bikes...and in the USA, I always buy Ford cars and Yamaha bikes...HD bikes SUCK!!!...

Kentaro75, You need to stop using your PC and get out more, into the "REAL" world!!!...
Just spend the last 4 months at home in Tokyo and now am back in California at home and the way I see it all, there's not too much difference in the quality of the food in either country...it's just depends on how much you want to pay and how far you want to travel to get good safe food...
Japan just had that case around the country with bad raw hamburger meat...I can't remember the name of the recipe but I am sure you and others read or heard about it...and don't say Kentaro75 that it was American or Aussie beef...don't even go there!!!...it wasn't the beef, more than it was the food prep folks... .................................... David Juteau, "US Food is Crap"...ummmmmm....well, if you would stay out of Mac-D's, Wendy's, Burger King and all of the other "Crap" food chains, you would find that, in the USA, there are some of the top restaurants in the World...not cheap but good food...
And if you shop for food and make it yourself...you would find that you can make good food, just like you can in most countries...
So, on your statement of "US Food is Crap"...NOT!!!....

I look at the JN Politicians and if they don't "smile", they are only have their own personal agenda and won't last...
Just try it...watch the tube and if they smile on a regular basis...they normally have some good policies and are trying their best for the people...if they always have that stupid, "I'm a Diet member, get the hell out of my way" look...they are up to no good and won't last long...
