And the arrogant callousness of an elected official to recommend to his own people to off themselves without any mention of seeking assistance is sickening as well. How about, "SEEK HELP FIRST BEFORE OFFING OTHERS OR YOURSELF" to an already suicidally prone population? The governor's job is to help make people's lives better not recommend suicide! How ridiculously irresponsible and shallow. He can think it, but not say it. It serves no purpose at all.

Wait! Wait! Wait! Let’s spread responsibility around to all those who are truly responsible. We can call this guy a dirt bag (which he truly and undoubtedly is) and say that he should have killed himself, but that is all that we are going to get out of it. Empty, angry meaningless words.
Osaka Gov Ichiro Matsui is the one who ALSO makes me sick in this situation. This is the J-Gov's and Matsui's fault as well. I hate when people like this make such self-serving comments that are just made to further their own careers, whilst ignoring that they do have some responsibility for the issue. I never heard one word about how the judicial system failed the public. The only thing I hear is, “This guy is a dirt bag who should have killed himself.” Wake up people. That is shallow and doesn’t address how and why this happened and will have no impact on the future at all.
Yes, this crazy guy's actions were horrific, and I am in no way, shape or form giving this guy any excuse at all. But rehabilitation is always what the government is stating their goal is, but that is not practiced at all. Squashing the inmate into doing right is what their rehabilitation system is all about.
Why would you just let these guys out without at least putting them into mandatory halfway houses for six months to a year, where they have curfews, are monitored, aren't allowed to drink, are forced to do counseling services in their free time and are given access to job information, before fully releasing them to us? Releasing a financially and job prospect challenged, unsupervised, squashed animal into society is a danger to all, and that is where the government is clearly at fault.
I implore all to** not just attack this guy**, but the government for failing to provide us with the safest conditions possible when these people are released. Remember they are always saying that rehabilitation is their goal. Well, do you think this guy was rehabilitated? Would things have been different if he (and us) had been given some of the things that I mentioned before?
Matsui did nothing to make sure that such a thing would not happen, therefore he has no business popping off. He should be bowing to the cameras, apologizing and telling us that he has assigned a group of professionals to make sure that this will not happen again, not taking the opportunity to get media attention for his political future. Get rid of the barbaric system and incorporate something that gives these people and us a chance when they are released.
**Gov. Matsui. You should apologize. You are at fault, too. **

More manipulation by you. Fact is he was talking about how much disdain he has for the mainstream media making things up to sell newspapers, knowing full well that it would be proven a lie in page three or four a few days later, of which the media is guilty of. . Watson was explicit about what he perceived to be the lack of truthfulness in mass media.
OH AND YOU CONVENIENTLY CUTT OFF MY SENTENCE WHICH PROVES MANIPULATION ON YOUR PART AS WELL.
> According to Watson - "If you do not know an answer, a fact, or a statistic, then simply make it up on the spot and deliver the information confidently and without hesitation".
He was talking about what the media and people who abuse it for their own purposes do. As Ronald Reagan did.
Manipulations by you are redundant and constant. WOW.

No need to do such a thing. The Guatemalans have never said anything to the contrary. The poachers made a false claim that they were trying to kill them. Gun ships responded immediately and they usually don't respond by throwing flowers in the air. There are lots of reason for cutting and running. You must not know much about Central America at all. And the Guatemalans never, ever pursued any kind of prosecution against him. That is what happened. Believe it or don't. End of story.

Oh and by the way. I did see the video of the shark-finning operation in Costa Rica. Do you think he made that up to? Do you think that they would just let him go after he was able to obtain footage of that? That is another reason why he ran. I would and so would you. You don't want to be in a small country after you have just been caught filming that. NO WAY. You better get your butt out of there and quickly.

@younknowwhoyouare.....
> Hahahaha. You repeat everything Watson says as if it's fact and demand proof from others.
I repeat what I read. Just like you. Yes, I want proof from others. I want to change my line of thinking. If I am wrong, I want to know it. And I have no qualms whatsoever for admitting if I am wrong. Fact is that I had not to this moment seen any such video. I am not going to lie about it. I haven't seen it. If you or that poster want to provide that then please do so. I didn't doubt its existence, I just stated that I had not seen it. So, laugh all you want. I don't see the humor or where you feel there is victory there. But hey, enjoy it.
You continue with petty name calling, but have not provided proof. If he is a liar than prove it. I have proven quite a few things and when I did there was no comment from you on it. FBI and an assortment of other things that I have shown. No comment from you in those times, except to slip into name calling. If he is a liar, than prove it. I have seen no such proof yet.
It really bothers me when half truths are printed like the one below. You forgot to mention that he was talking about his disdain for the mainstream media and how they conduct themselves. > The nature of the mass media today is such that the truth is irrelevant. What is true and what is right to the general public is what is defined as true and right by the mass media. Ronald Reagan understood that the facts are not relevant. The media reported what he said as fact. Follow-up investigation was old news. A headline comment on Monday's newspaper far outweighs the revelation of inaccuracy revealed in a small box inside the paper on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Watson's most famous statement is, "If you do not know an answer, a fact, or a statistic, make it up on the spot and deliver the information confidently and without hesitation".
Now, if you were to read that and only that, (And I know that was your intention) you would think he was talking about himself. But that is not true either and I am sure you are aware of that. He was talking about the lack of truthfullness in the mass media and how it and the players who use it delve into half-truths, so they can be front line stories today and how when it would come out that the story was incorrect it would appear on later pages and nobody would really care then anyway. And you know what? He was right. The mass media loves to distort things just to sell the news. Was he wrong? No. But you seem to be because once again you are trying to manipulate what the guy was talking about.

@ihopetoeat........
> His concern is to go to prison for his crimes.
No, his concern is being killed in prison by the mafia and with good reason. I take it this would be something that would give you delight. But if he is killed, it will just bolster everyone else's resolve to stop both finning and whaling. So, watch out. That is not what your side needs.
> Costa Rica and the world want justice.
I'm sorry, but this one was pretty funny for me. It is only you guys, who seem to be siding with the illegal poachers who are of mafia nature, who have lost money, once again that word, MONEY, who want justice. And you I and everyone else, know, him going to a Costa Rican prison would not be justice, it would be a death penalty. Not sure you want that. Oh, that comment. I love it. THE WORLD WANTS JUSTICE. No, you guys just want the guy out of the picture so more money can be made at the expense of the seas. Also such practices do not benefit loads of people who actually eat shark in other countries. Ah, money wins, compassion drools I guess.
> He wants to stay at a suite in Hilton hotel with Internet and good restaurant.
WOW! Wild speculation here. I need facts from you. Not speculation about what he wants to eat or where he wants to stay.

@andre Thanks for the below comment. Has anyone on the other side ever thought of that?? > Japan is in violation of an Austrailian Federal Court order when it comes to whaling in the Austrailian Whale Sanctuary. Doesn't sound legal to me... Just saying
Yeah, let me go a step further and paste this little tidbit.
**Australia's sovereignty in Antarctica is the jurisdictional basis for Australia declaring under its own domestic laws a whale sanctuary within its exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, UNCLOS.
Judge Alsop declared in his ruling that "the waters within 200 nautical miles from the Australian Antarctic Territory land mass are within the Australian Whale Sanctuary." ** So, basically they are hunting within the 200 mile EEZ of Australia and thumbing their noses at other judges and laws of foreign counties. .
But the whalers refute this! Convenient, wouldn't you say and ignore the laws passed by A FEDERAL JUDGE, all the while complaining that Captain Paul Watson and his crew do the same thing. The contradiction and hypocrisy stinks.

@ihope2eatwhales. The below is just more nasty speculation and innuendo flinging on your part. > I think Sea Shepherd lovers would believe we are aliens if Paul Watson told them so.
Let's talk facts. Fact one. Correct me if I am wrong. You and others who are so against him, would love to see him get thrown in a Costa Rican prison so the mafia could get to him, wouldn't you? You speak of fairness and giving the POACHERS their day in court, knowing that they are on the side of the mafia and would be protected, but he wouldn't. I think your side would really like it if he "just slipped and fell" in a Costa Rican mafia invested jail system, right?
But remember this. The more actions whalers take, the more of a hero he becomes. The more attention you give him, the more powerful he becomes. Just like what was said about the actions of the Sea Sheppard with the Japanese. Now, more Japanese are against him than before. Right? Well, the reverse works that way as well, and as we all know, Japan is just an island nation amongst many.
Let me educate you here, If he dies, he becomes a legend and more people will take up the fight against the shark-finning . I really can't believe that any of you can side with those thugs at all. And more people will take up the fight on whaling. Hey, look at me, in just one day you influenced me and a few others to take a pot and start sending money. More people you make angry, the more people join the fight. So, it is in your best interest to make sure he doesn't get shipped back to Costa Rica and something happens to him. Stop giving him attention as well. When you do you are just working for me and the people who appreciate the things that he does.

@vinnyfav > asking them for money is like trying to squeeze blood out of a stone.
Reality is they are quite infamous for paying smaller countries for votes in the IWC. Heck, all countries are when they have something to lose. Well, yes they can arrest him, but the problem is, you gotta catch him first. They have never had that chance.
Has he ever been in Japan since he started hounding the fleets? No. Therefore they have to go through a third party. And yes, they did arrest Pete Bethune and held him for quite a while. It was very unpopular with people outside of Japan.

@ihope2eatwhales
Oh no. Quite the contrary. He gets money from people all over the world. I just sent a good hefty donation myself and will continue to do so. The guy is a hero to lots of educated people like myself who think in terms of right and wrong and not of only MONEY. He is only reviled by people in your camp. The money side. Or people who don't know enough about the situation but make up their minds without really seeking out information and just buy what you guys are selling.
I will give you that it was two months later. But, so what? One month, two months. It is all around the same time anyway. I think the problem was just his wording. I am sure he was trying to see "this was going on all around the same time". But I shouldn't speak for him, because than I would be just speculating.
As for them fleeing the Costa Ricans, please see what I posted to arrestpaul. And you also. I already explained that and don't feel the need to do so again. It is all there in black and white.

@Guy-jin Your personal opinion of him and open disdain are not important matters here. Hey. I was in the military before and it is not that hard to fire a gun at a moving target from a ship at all. **What do you think all of those guns on military ship are for? **
The video of which you speak is neither here nor there. I have never seen the video myself but it does not matter. If you want to join the fray, provide proof, as often times my opponents on the pro-whaling side do. If not, then hurl insulting comments at the TV. We are talking about a serious issue here and a lot of spend a lot of time verifying and producing proof to back up our claims. Thank you.

They fled the area ARRESTPAUL, because gun boats were coming in their direction. The gun boats had been radioed to by the illegal poachers under the false claim that they were being attacked. Trust me, when you gun boats are sent out in Central America, it is never a good thing.
But here is something fun for all those that believe the illegal poachers. The Sea Sheppard was constantly sending videos to CANADA of what was going on. The videos were the same ones that the Costa Rican offiicals saw later on, which prompted them to DROP THE CASE. If their actions were so dangerous, charges would have stuck but were actually dropped by the COSTA RICANS. And the truth shall set you free.

Now on this one, huh? Okay. Cool.
It wasn't trash talk, see the tape. Fact is he would be killed by the Costa Rican mafia if he were to go to jail there. It wouldn't get to court. But of course, he must be mindful and question is such a thing is possible.
But let's look at his statement in its entirety not in the bits and pieces that you have copied and pasted together, PAUL.
Here is what it says.
**Although I have no reason to believe that the Costa Rican legal system would not give me a fair trial, my concern is not for the judicial system, but for the reality that the shark fin mafia of Costa Rica has a price on my head and a Costa Rican prison would provide an excellent opportunity for someone to exercise this lethal contract against me,” he said. **
His concern is for his safety and for good reason. He didn't take pop shots at the Costa Rican judiciary system at all like you just said. He just said how peculiar the timing was. And nobody can disagree with that. Ten years later a case that had been completely dropped comes up at the same time the J-gov officials file charges in Seattle. And, yes up to this point they have lost the injunction.
No, the Costa Rican illegal poachers have nothing to say, because they were in Guatemalan waters, illegally without a permit. Does a burglar have a case? NOPE. That what they were and why you will never hear anything from them.

You are speculating again as to if they were bribed by the Sea Sheppard officials which is highly unlikely, due to the fact that there are many Asian businessmen there buying the fins and financing the Costa Rican poachers. Logic shows that it if anyone was going to bride the officials, it would be those businessmen who have the most to lose by having the Sea Sheppard patrolling Guatemalan waters .
One, the charges were filed at the same time as the Japanese filed theirs in a Seattle court. Looks very suspicious to anyone!
Two, the case didn't have to be settled because it was dropped after the Costa Rican government took a look at the tapes that were also simultaneously sent out to the Canadian government, and decided there was no case against them. If the Sea Sheppard was in the wrong, don't you think Canadian officials would have screamed "FOUL"? The poachers didn't need due process, because they had no evidence at all to the contrary.
Three, the poachers didn't have a permit to be there in Guatemalan waters in the first place.
Four, the Sea Sheppard was invited there by the Guatemalan government to assist them in eradicating illegal poachers from their waters. So, they did have a legal right to be there.
Five, you are siding with the shark-finning mafia industry? A practice that is regulated in most countries and illegal in others. Countries like Guatemala don't have the financial resources to protect the sharks, hence they called on the Sea Sheppard for assistance. But you would rather side with a despicable lot with mafia ties??????
There was no court case, because the actions that the barbaric poachers were doing was illegal. No permit. NOT LEGAL. NO CASE.
Arrestpaul. It is not right to go against someone because you feel disdain for them. More importantly, is which side you stand on and WHY you stand there. You are standing up for a group of illegal poachers, or should I say the money side.
I am standing up for the Sea Sheppard, which was asked to be there and was doing what it was asked to do by the authorities. I am standing on the side of justice, not money.
How can you defend a group of people who illegally enter another country's waters, just to do something that is barbaric and cruel?

He won't need to. I doubt he would be that foolish to run on what is most likely being done on a technicality. Costa Rica is most likely doing this, and yes, this is speculation, but Japan most likely had something to do with it.
> Probably because the eco-terrorist SS paid bribes to have the case dropped.
Possible, hell anything is. Why did it suddenly come back to life then? Japan had nothing to do with it? Hmmmmm. Rich country (JAPAN) influences smaller economically weaker country (COSTA RICA) to file old dead charges from TEN YEARS ago at the same time that it does the same thing in SEATTLE???? Sounds more plausible then ecology group is able to pay off small country more money than shark-finning, mafia invested and Asian businessmen whom have a large financial stake in exporting illegal trade to Asia.

Interesting that it was dismissed by INTEPOL in January, but Germany ignored that. The guy has been in Europe a couple of times since the charges were filed. He was there in Germany last November and nothing happened. The US's HOMELAND SECURITY DEPARTMENT doesn't even have an extradition filed on the guy either.
The charges by the Costa Rican authorities are only for navigation purposes at this time. Not for attempted murder. He will walk.
