yabits here's a little test. let's see how far apart we all are.

can you say after WWll america took a bold and positive action by supporting our enemies, where as in the past the tradition was to punish them?

we built up germany and japan. we let the people choose their own destiny (of course with a little guidance and regulation).

now can you admit in contrast the soviet union put a strangle hold on the people in eastern europe?

can you say to the wonks, who compared our relationship with japan and western europe to that of the soviets and eastern europe, that they were full of it?

can you say to these wonks that the idea of the US supporting these countries forced the soviets to strangle their neighbors is ridiculous? can you say that?

You never really explained how or why you think Al Gore put up a fight that in any way mirrors the refusal of Coleman to give up for seven months.

they sped up the process because the timing of the presidency is more critical than a senator for starters.

al gore took it all the way to the supreme court. maybe coleman should try that too. what do you think?

the supreme court did not choose anybody. the found the election rules of florida are a state matter. the florida courts had decided there had been enough recounts. the supreme court refused to over turn that. a reasonable conclusion. unless of course the only outcome you could accept is your guy winning.

as is the avoidance of the fact in this thread.

like the stated fact gore didn't fight the election results.

come on get over it. so coleman contested a very, very close race. franken would have contested it too. just like fat al did. this is all baloney.

I think Reverend Wright spews a bunch of crap from his pulpit. I think Rush spews a bunch of crap from his radio program.

i agree with a lot of what you say. but i wonder if you ever listened to rush's show. it sounds like you are buying the spin the media puts on it. there is no way you can compare wright to rush.

i'm a casual listener. while driving in my car i cruise all the stations. whenever i hear rush his is always polite. he never yells. he never spews hate. or racist remarks.

he's does says plenty of politically incorrect things. nothing like wright.

i bring this up because i think there is a witch hunt by the left to destroy the rush. there are people who comb through every word he says hoping to find something to use against him. they should be able to provide evidence of his hateful spewing. can you supply me with an example?

i'm really open to being convinced here.

the left are tolerant of other views as long as they agree with them.

Does it matter for the purposes of this argument? FYI, protesters do get jailed in America too you know. Rather than get defensive, how about conceeding that there is a problem in America?

    defensive? sarcastic maybe. defensive? ha!

why not admit you made an really foolish statement and leave it at that.

You're basically saying Saddam's mistake was not having a couple of small devices he could explode underground.

well that's one of the reasons you want to keep those weapons out of certain hands. and why tyrants just love to get them.

and it was no mistake he didn't have them. israel saw to that.

Do not know if you know this or not but Congress can step in and accept or decline any election.

of course the state legislature can over ride the vote in the state. the florida legislature already made it clear they were ready to certify the vote. there is no way in hell the us congress was going to over ride the supreme court and name a new president. you have to be joking. right?

fat al conceded because fat al had run out of viable options. period.

the thing i found so hysterical was you saying al didn't fight it. that's just too funny.

and your responses here just prove my point. 9 years later and you are all still whining about it.

including a challenge to the constitutionality of the Supreme Court's decision to end the ballot counting

this is hysterical. how were they going to challenge that? get michael moore to take the case?

    yabit,

what the heck are you talking about?

even this site is full of people still whining about the stolen gore election.

i have to laugh the dems were in power. they had the power of the justice department behind them to uncover any illegal vote rigging. nothing. but sure the libs found plenty on their own. now maybe if michael moore was running the justice department real justice would have been done.

even when they win it all they just can't stop whining.

Yeah right - tell that to Al Gore or Michael Moore.

oh come on there are a lot of other wackos who believe that too. it's not just those two.

As long as a legit government can handle the place not going into some undesirable hands, ie: Taliban, Al Quida a-holes.

if you add the Baathists wasn't this the US policy from day one?

"Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it."

saddam was not safely contained. the world saw the threat. the UN backed sanctions were killing hundreds of thousands of innocent iraqis. the wringing hands approach was worse than useless. the status quo doing great harm .

why don't we hear about that from the concerned liberals? oh yeah clinton was a democrat. they must keep their priorities straight.

i don't agree with the sentiment: let's just move on. you can move forward while looking back. you have to. this war has to be put in to a proper perspective. the republicans paid a price for their actions. when the political winds shift the dems will have to answer to a lot of things too. it's not just politics. it goes deeper than that.

"It's time to put asise the debate about the war and move on."

I wouldn't have any problem with that, but when I see posters blaming Bush and Cheney for all the deaths and problems in Iraq and claiming that Iraq would be better off without the liberation, I must take issue with that.

    sarge,

i think it goes beyond that. going back to when howard dean made that surprise run for the nomination the dems realized the thicker the rhetoric against the war and bush the more milage they got. they fell all over themselves trashing whatever they could to get results.

the press went along for the ride. outrageous accusations were made. very little was done to challenge them. the political winds were changing and politicians being what they are were either running scared (on the right) or joining the feeding frenzy (on the left).

as much as the press joined the drum beat for war they turned and joined the drum beat against bush.

so as a result the dems were able to control the message of the war. for instance their position of cut and run was allowed to just fade away with out so much as a look back. whatever the dems needed the press supplied.

but it's not that simple. the same problems that existed before the war still exist today. will the dems be the ones to deal with them? the republicans have to find the person who can go back and challenge the 'conclusion.' playing it safe and just moving on would seal the liberal victory of hijacking the issue.

of course i realize the political winds still have not shifted. and the right person to deliver the goods is no where to be seen. i doubt it could be palin. but i have to believe there will be some one who takes on this challenge and opportunity.

as the obama's poll numbers fade it will encourage new blood on the right.

"In absolute terms, the United States currently has the largest inmate population in the world, with more than 2½ million[8] or more than one in a hundred adults[9] in prison and jails."

and they are mostly 'protesters', right? i hope obama frees them all. really. but considering how he's moving on the whole gitmo thing and the military tribunals i wouldn't hold my breath.

i'd protest it myself but know i would just wind up in the american gulag with everyone else.

t IS necessary to keep reminding conservatives where they screwed up,

i agree we need to keep the debate going. people need choices, an alternative philosophy if and when obama's vision unravels.

the mid term elections will be very interesting indeed.

Maybe if the child had a mother who cared about her

i wouldn't judge the mother too harshly. it's really more of a cultural thing. you see this behavior everyday. sadly it's all too normal and totally acceptable.

think about seat belts. growing up in america our parents never bothered with seat belts. i'm sure they still loved us though. it took the insurance companies and the government to drill seatbelt safety into our heads. we learned and we evolved.

japan needs a little evolving too, i'd say. .
