A couple things you can do to protect yourself.
Stay away from groups of women- if your boardering them chances are if an accusation is made the Wa effect will have another woman come to the defense of her friend.
Actively discourage people from standing around you with your body. Sounds sinister but with your elbows and stance you can present a passive stance or an agressive stance. Make your body wider and command more space.
Keep your hands visible. Read a book, look at a magazine, or use your DS/Vita in a high eye level. Might be uncomfortable, but at eye level people can see what you are doing.
When you want someone to move away from you, square up to them and look them in the eye. Eye contact is uncomfortable between strangers and they may get the message that they have invade your personal space.
Finally and most important, be fluid. If a situation doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Don't allow yourself to fall into a situation where it he said she said situation, move. Express your discomfort verbally or physically( read nonverbally) and make your way to a different section of the general area. If you people ask why are you moving express your discomfort of being next to _____. Now you have unwittingly pointed a finger at yourself and the person but you have said you don't feel comfortable first, it's now on them show your move was unwarranted.
Please use this to keep yourself safe, it works for both men and women.

An offer to apologize is not an apology. A public statement should not be apologized for in private. Any real leader would recognize this.

I'm surprised, May 23 is a quick turnaround for a Japanese specific model.

Gaga, Minaj, Pamyu. All we need is a Latin American, a Western European, an Eastern European, and a South East Asian and we have a super group.
Female asian popstars; she's 19, there is only one of her, and she has not shaved her head. I'd call that an improvement in role models.

To be blunt, Hashimoto, along with his more extreme counterpart Ishihara, where placed into power because of their popularity in their respective cities. Considering that they work in Osaka and Tokyo, they rose through the ranks towing a quiet yet popular nationalistic line. The result is them exerting the views they've cultivated, and quietly supported, over the years. For people like this, and there are MANY of them, the return of Okinawa was not seen as a benefit to Japan but as a benefit to the Okinawan people who now have the distinct honor of being called Japanese.

Bad idea, what should be done is to force Sony Entertainment and Sony Hardware to get along. As far as making the hardware section more profitable, move some assembly outside of Japan and find ways to bring the cost down.

@ knowitall with that logic, we are going to need a new set of numbers. Or better yet symbols to represent the new numbers in case people begin to associate the new set of numbers with the old set of numbers.
Must be a slow news day to be drawing conclusions that Japan is actively trying to bait Koreans with the use of number references.

For a man wishing Osaka to be treated with the same consideration as Tokyo, Hashimoto done an Inoue. Well on him!!
Sarcasm aside, this the second time a prominent figure in Japanese politics has shown to have a very insular concept of the world. Whether or not his statements have merit, he should stayed away from the subject. Now he has to explain himself and hope the international community is foolish enough forget his comments, as Abe wants to define Osaka as a special economic zone.

A big difference between Japanese law and American law (won't speak for other countries) is that American law is explicite. Family, drugs, traffic, and employment have explicite rules in the US. This is not the case in Japan which plays more toward traditional opinion rather than reference to laws. Before joining the Hague, Japan needs to reexamine many of these traditional opinions and laws to find contradictions (Example in the family registry a woman is add to a man family as is a child, but in a divorce the woman retains custody of the child yet can be still recognized under the man's family.)

I don't understand the logic of it other than the smear the LDP. Waste of time seeing she will likely be sent back to China to relay Japan's environmental concerns but this time as part of a group envoy.

Since taking over the company from Vodaphone, Softbank has relied heavily on domestic manufactures, NEC, SHARP, Fujitsu, and Toshiba...The Iphone was an exception and Apple got to dictate the terms. They recently got the Motorolla Razor, so there is a little hope.
I'm surprised they haven't made a deal to get a version Samsung's Galaxy S3 or a Nokia's Lumia.

This story feels like de-ja-vu. Japan has to make a choice; Be judged by a professional who will likely become jaded in time, or be judged by your neighbor who will be easily shocked.

This can happen to anybody, as the article only mentions a farrai and a car. Personally think its a kei car considering it was able to accelerated with enough force to break a guard rail. Hope everyone will be ok. But the question needs to be raised, for as much as Japan is about standards and regulations, why is there no regulation or for owning and operating a high performance cars on the roads when there is precedent with owning and operating high performance motorcycles?

Inose comment's have nothing to do with the games---- He is in New York Representing Japan In it's Attempt To Host The Games. This basically means he is representational of the Japanese mind as far as foreign media is concerned.
It's a catch 22, if Inose apologizes then he confirms with what the media is saying, Tokyo broke a rule in the IOC rule book and Japan likely loses it's bid.
If doesn't apologize, while not getting reprimanded by the IOC, the committee has to consider the ramifications of selecting Tokyo. If they were to select Tokyo, it would be an endorsement of the IOC saying that Islamic countries are dangerous and that Inose's comments are valid.
Then comes the long term effect. Whether or not Inose apologizes, he is likely not going to resign as Governor of Tokyo. As long as he is a representation of Tokyo, the crown Jewel of Japan, the city will have a hard time to secure international sporting events after these comments. The knock on effect is that this can be used against other cities.

Where I come from, it's a civic duty to serve in the judicial process. While I disagree with the lawsuit, I do think the state should provide debriefing for lay judges involved in cases with violent crimes.

Depending on couple factors (where you live, your job and income, and your background) you can very easily get by not speaking English in the US. A bigger issue is that many services are starting to require/prefer workers to be bilingual or have a basic knowledge of a second language (namely spanish, but also French, Russian, Creole). It's complex on all sides.
