"Only when the citizens start speaking up, and bringing JT to court for giving them lung cancer, will the government really do something."
And therein lies the crux of the whole matter, and not just about 2nd hand smoking, noise pollution ("chirigami kokan" anyone?, loud, incessant, continuous dog barking 3meters from your window all day long, pushing with bags on the trains, endless and repeated announcements now coming at you in Bilingual, heaven forbid when it becomes trilingual etc.). Everytime I face one of these situations and ask "the citizens" they answer with the provrbial "Sho ga nai, ja nain desu ka?"

I'm eagerly waiting for Tokyo to have the balls and make the same actions (or stronger) than the mild mannered mayor of Kanagawa has done. Is it a dream? Maybe 3-4 years later, but I doubt I'll be here then. The other day, I was training at a golf driving range that I often pay to pratice at, and it was minus the usual smokers. I couldn't believe the difference in my lung condition between having a non-smoking environment and one where Mr. 5-minute, Mr. 6-minute and Mr. 7 minute (duration they can go WITHOUT smoking) show up. They hit balls (mostly driver) for 5 mintues or so, then they sit down and have a smoke. If you're there for an hour figure it out, a-san smoked 12 cigarettes, B-san smoked 10 and C-san smoked 8. And all of their second hand smoke goes all over the non-smokers and penetrates our lungs. I become a basket case in such a situation for the rest of the day and vow never to go again when those 3 show up...or get out within a half hour. That's the problem with smoking and smokers in public. Its never just ONE, but an UNENDING and very physically disturbing STREAM.......

Swimming is one thing. Playing around near an ocean is another. A four-year old "playing around near a steep harbor at 5 p.m.?" unsupervised? OMG. Where were the supervising adults, practicing Sumo wrestling?

The Hollies HARMONIES were great, and the times of their careers was a once-in-a-lifetime hit after hit by the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five, the Byrds, the Rolling Stones, Chad and Jeremy, the Kinks, the Who, James Brown, Wilson Picket, the Temptations. What precious day to be young and alive! "Bus stop Bus goes We stay love grow, under my umbrella."

"I hope that an assault charge is an automatic loss of job." More likely a promotion will follow. J-police STILL think they're superior to the common people (young ladies, of course!). Its a throw back from WWII and before. Police state. You might laugh, but its no laughing matter. And then Ozawa says "unfortunate period", and everyone burps and sighs and goes on. Same with this story. Its like one out of the stone age. Punching a female in the stomach to get a feel? Talk about baboon tactics if I ever heard of them.

"putting little ball in a little hole". Sounds like a piece of cake, huh cleo? Ever try? Obviously not. TW raised the standard of golf culture which dates back at least 3-400 years. That's why he was revered at the British Open. He mastered ALL aspects of the game, won an astounding amount of the time, and finished in the top 10 almost without fail. No one in his generation comes close. Great? Yes without a doubt! "As it happens..." It's called recognition for being a success in your field. The great ones are rewarded.

I'm certainly glad I don't have to meet the likes of numbskull on a daily basis. such people love to rant and pick apart another's success, methinks out of great jealousy for not having a great talent to speak of. Well so be it. As Michael Bramberger's article just came out, it comes as a soothing balance to the likes of what's written on these pages. That's why we should never use just one news agency as our source for information. Rip Tiger to shreds if that's what you enjoy doing. I'll stick with the TW I believe is the real TW, disregarding the wacko doctrines of the appropriately self-labelled "numbskull"!

Tiger's performance came from his golfing ability, period. Not his many extra-marrital outings in my opinion. He probably would already have reached Nichlaus's 18 championships had he not had so many. And he certainly won't need any crutch of an excuse once he comes back, assuming that he does. TW is one of the greatest sportmen of all time, bar none, in any sport. Jack Nicklaus once commented, "A real champion just knows how to get it in the hole when its necessary". Its like Jordan, and Montana, and Getzky and Sorrenstram all knew how to do, at the time it needed to be done. I've been curious though, that the golfing public might want to drop their shouting out of "in the hole" that has become all the rage in recent years? But didn't exist before Tiger's time.

14 out of 15 commets seem to be takig the high road against TW. I'm surprised. Anyone who has followed his career from Junior (14-15 years old) and seen some of his earlier tournaments, building into the world No.1 he is today probably think like I do that this 2 weeks of silence followed by a statement to leave golf to try and repair the damage to his family life matches right up with the TW we feel we know. Infidelity began with drinking. So drinking is going to have to come off his list of hobbies. So is visiting night clubs. Not being on the tour will eliminate that temptation. Who the xxx knows whether its too late to patch things up between Elin and Tiger? Maybe they really love each other. Anyone think of that? If so than why did he say this and do that? you will respond, but hello, who of us is perfect, and without fault? Let him cast the first stone. Good luck Tiger and Elin. If higher powers can help heal the stench of life violations, there's still time to get things on track! I imagine we might not see Tiger until 2011 at earliest.

some14some, Obama created quite a stir in these islands if you haven't noticed. Change became the the reason for throwing out LDP after 50-some years, and his speeches have become very popular as a way for students to get interested in studying English. He's right there for the Japanese audience, thank you. By the way, I always wonder if these things are for sale, or just made as a limited edition to PR the company?

Hello? I see and meet this type of mentality on the trains, uh-hmm about with 86% of the natives. Its a wonder the scheme still goes orderly. One news like this is all we need to begin the copycat crimes. Yet I've often though about doing ust what this 21 year old did, but of course had the horse sense to refrain. People with no jobs just are at their wits ends, making trouble is their only recourse to verifying their present day lives. Pity, sad, what's the word? And yet the tourists who come to Japan still love and hate as we always have. Funny orchestration of society in these hills. At least he didn't drop a bomb in the station. That's about the only aspect that can be viewed as a postive.

It surely seems this "affair" has touched on a larger problem of race Something, I a TW devotee/fan/admirer didn't even consider. And now, after reading all the enlightening comments above including pathat's support as TW being Asian descent as much as African/American if anything, maybe we need to discuss the beauty of the Asian races and culture in a new light. They in many ways are on par or superior to any other ethnic groups, and its about time they got recognized as equals. But as someone else said, Let's go to Church if we want to see Jesus. We don't have to go in the building, but we have to reflect of our own godliness as human beings. Human beings have a spiritual side, no? Of course, TW's spiritual side is strong as anyones, he just got backslammed by his libido. Pray that he comes to his senses, circles the wagons, accepts that he was wrong, clean up his act and go forward with renewed dedication. Its a big list, but TW can do it! I hope.

Nandakandamanda, something rings true of what you say. I'm a huge TW fan, read practically every book out on him, know about all the TW stories, and EW stories (tricking his first wife to sign a separation paper) all the while already having Tida lined up. Could this be a case of like father like son? Whatever, we are ALL imperfect and horny and those who say they aren't ain't telling the truth. But after swallowing all of TW's so-called disciplined training regimens and concern for his TW foundation, it does come as a real shock that he'd been out on the prowl all the while? Or, did he lose track somewhere? I heard that his wife said "I wasn't an easy catch", and kept him at bay for at least a year. Was he playing around during that time? Whatever, this isn't TMZ.com for all the gossip, its just one TW admirers (slightly tarnished) trying to come to grips with how much I can respect him from here on out. Bill Clinton never won my forgiveness, but it seems Kobe Bryant has been forgiven for his even worse action of forceably taking what he wanted...And in that case, with a white blond.

LIke I said before, J-skaters can't jump! (Except for the midgit Ito-san who became the first Jpn to land triple axel, but was soon plagued by injuries, destined to become part of the rocket scene of the Nagano Olympics (trying to imitate Mohammed Ali's presence in Atlanta? Beautiful Miki Ando, but the home crowd doesn't love her like they do Mao. I'm afraid Mao was just a budding 15-16-17 year old that's peaked prematurely, as sometimes/often happens when pushed too quickly too aggressively.

The main thing J-skaters lack is the ability to jump like Irina of Russia a couple years ago. She was vivaciousness on ice. What a charmer. All these wanna-bes get to show their stuff to the world, but alot of hungry spirited Europeans are waiting to take the crown, I imagine. Concerning the age and overexposure thing, Japan ALWAYS does this to their darling stars. They can't wait for them to have normal careers, they have to be pushed through the washing machine, swallowed by oodles of sponsors, face is everywhere to be seen.......and then dropped for the next new face. Its ironic because the talents on TV stay and stay and stay for 20-30 years like Sanma and Shinsuke nada nado....
